Abstract

Background: Worm infections caused by Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), primarily from the Nematoda class, remain a public health concern. In 2023, the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) report in Wani Village, Tanantovea District, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi, noted that out of 3,739 targeted children aged 1–12 years, 3,704 received deworming treatment—achieving a 97% coverage rate. Among them, 1.33% were kindergarten-aged children. Aims: This study aimed to determine the presence of worm eggs in the feces of children attending Pembina Kindergarten in Wani I Village. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted from May 15 to June 7, 2024, involving all 36 children at the kindergarten. Stool samples were examined using the centrifugation method to identify STH eggs. Data were analyzed and presented in tabular form.  Results: No worm eggs were found in any of the samples. Conclusion: Although no infections were detected, preventive measures remain essential. Teachers should continue encouraging biannual deworming, regular handwashing, consistent toilet use, and the use of footwear during outdoor activities to reduce future infection risks.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders can occur in various levels, ranging from mild to severe. These musculoskeletal disorders usually occur due to work factors or conditions in the workplace such as improper posture, static, and repetitive activities, and can also come from physical exposure such as temperature and vibration. Musculo Skeletal Diseases (MSDs) is a group term for several diseases and injuries to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and bones. MSDs can affect the back, cervical area, and upper and lower extremities, resulting in pain and disability. Data obtained from the Head of RW 003 Joho Kidul Environment, Giriwono Village, Wonogiri, stated that many residents of Joho Kidul Environment have complaints of musculoskeletal pain such as shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain, and other pain. This can be caused by a lack of knowledge about musculoskeletal pain and efforts to treat it independently. Counseling is needed to increase knowledge about musculoskeletal pain and independent treatment efforts, as well as the need for appropriate health service facilities to help reduce musculoskeletal pain complaints in residents in order to improve quality of life and work productivity. Results: the presence of participants during 1 activity was 85 participants. The gender of participants/residents in community service was 34 men and 51 women. The average age of participants was 56 years, average weight 59 kg, average height 155 cm, according to BMI, 21% of participants were overweight and 17% were obese. As many as 30% of participants had diabetes (GDP> 125), 26% of male participants suffered from high uric acid (> 7.0 mg / dL), 37% of female participants suffered from high uric acid (> 6.0 mg / dL). There were 36 participants who underwent acupuncture therapy with complaints of musculoskeletal pain. Conclusion: Community service with counseling and self-empowerment as well as acupuncture services for musculoskeletal pain sufferers can increase knowledge about the causes and self-prevention efforts and can help serve musculoskeletal pain sufferers with acupuncture therapy for residents of RW 003 Joho Kidul Environment, Giriwono Village, Wonogiri

Abstract

Background: The Family Approach Healthy Indonesia Program (PIS-PK) is a key strategy of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. To support this program, community empowerment through interprofessional collaboration is essential. This activity was conducted in RW 05, Banjarsari District, which was identified as an area with specific health concerns. Objectives: This community service aimed to: 1) Implement interprofessional collaboration to address community health issues, and 2) Increase residents' knowledge and awareness of priority health problems. Methods: The activity used the IPCIdEM (Interprofessional Collaborative Practice in Education and Management) approach. The stages included: 1) Problem identification through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and analysis of Family Health Index (IKS) data; 2) Planning and implementation of interventions, which consisted of health screenings (blood pressure and blood sugar), health education sessions on hypertension, diabetes, stunting prevention, and family planning, and the distribution of iron supplements to adolescent girls; 3) Evaluation through pre-test and post-test.Results: The FGD and IKS data revealed three priority health problems: Non-Communicable Diseases (hypertension and diabetes), stunting risks, and low participation in family planning programs. The intervention showed positive outcomes: a total of 100 residents participated in the health screenings and education. Pre-test and post-test results from the NCD session showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score from 60% to 80%. Furthermore, 80% of participating adolescent girls committed to consuming iron tablets regularly. Conclusion: The IPCIdEM approach proved effective in facilitating interprofessional collaboration and improving community health literacy. This model can be replicated in other communities to tackle priority health issues in a structured and collaborative manner

Abstract

Environmental and behavioral factors can increase the transmission of Tuberculosis (TB) and worsen outcomes. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and patient behavior with the incidence of TB. This type of analytical survey research uses a cross-sectional approach. The research is located in the Working Area of the Talise Health Center, Palu City. The research sample was all TB cases recorded at the Talise Health Center as many as 40 cases. The ratio of cases to control was 1:1, so that the total sample was 80 respondents. The control came from the closest neighbors who had the same age and gender as the case group. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate with Chi-Square test. The results showed that environmental sanitation had an influence on the incidence of TB, non-qualified environmental sanitation had a 5.476 times greater risk of developing TB than qualified people (p = 0.001, OR = 5.476 [2,099-14,284]). Environmental sanitation that has a significant relationship is ventilation (0.002), occupancy density (0.004), temperature (0.004) and lighting (0.004). For patient behaviors that include attitudes and actions that influence the incidence of TB, negative attitudes have a 4.394 times greater risk of developing TB than those who have positive attitudes (p = 0.003, OR = 4.394 [1,709-11,295]). Meanwhile, bad actions had a 3.857 times greater risk of developing TB than those with good actions (p = 0.003, OR = 3.857 [1.526-9.750]). The significance of this study is that environmental sanitation and patient behavior have an influence on the incidence of TB.

Abstract

Background: E. coli contamination of clean water has had a widespread impact, especially on human health. Aims: To determine the bacteriological content of clean water in Bale Village. Methods: This was a descriptive observational study conducted in July 2021. Primary data was obtained from E-Coli testing results at the Environmental Health Department Laboratory of the Palu Health Polytechnic using the MPN (Most Probable Number) method, and observations of clean water facilities. The population size was 386 clean water facilities, with a sample of 24 clean water samples. The sampling technique used the Simple Random Sampling method. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by comparing the laboratory test results with the 2017 Ministry of Health Regulation. Results: Only 1 water source met the requirements and no E.Coli was found, namely in Hamlet 2, while water sources in other hamlets were contaminated with E.Coli ranging from 4 - 2400 MPN/100 ml, and some even exceeded that number. Conclusion: The majority of clean water sources in Bale Village do not meet the requirements. Out of 24 clean water samples tested, only 1 sample met the requirements, namely the clean water sample from the water pump.
