Abstract

Tongue cleaning is a simple and quick procedure that helps remove organisms and debris on the tongue. Tongue cleaning can be done using a tongue scraper. This research was conducted to determine the correlation between the OHI-S index and tongue coating, and to explain knowledge regarding tongue hygiene and tongue scrapers in children at the Sejati Muhammadiyah Rappang Orphanage. The research subjects were children from the Sejati Muhammadiyah Rappang Orphanage who were on site at the time of the research and were willing to follow the research procedures. Dental hygiene is assessed by the OHI-S index and tongue examination is based on the tongue coating index. A total of 24 men and 16 women were given questionnaires before and after counseling. The results showed there was no significant relationship between the two indices (p=0.382). The distribution of questionnaire answers shows an increase in correct answers after providing counseling. However, based on education level and gender, there was no significant difference in knowledge regarding tongue hygiene and tongue scrapers (p=0.858, p=0.486). Non-significant differences were also seen in the comparison of groups that used and did not use a tongue scraper. It was concluded that there was no significant correlation between the OHI-S index and tongue coating. However, providing counseling was able to increase the knowledge of children at the Sejati Muhammadiyah Rappang Orphanage, although there was no difference in knowledge regarding tongue hygiene and tongue scrapers based on education level and gender.

Abstract

Abstract. Growth disorders with short stature and stunting involve comparing a child's height with a reference group or with his own height over time. To identify any of the conditions in infants and toddlers, parents should focus on examining accurate measurements of length/height and weight and weight gain based on WHO standards from birth to 2 years. This activity is a community service carried out with a descriptive approach. Community service is carried out at one of the fostered Posyandu in the working area of the Abeli Public Health Center, Kendari City, with a duration of 60 minutes for 2 days. Results in the final evaluation were that the participants had a good understanding of preventive measures and early detection of short stature and stunting underfives through the MTBS approach and were able to practice proper height and weight measurements for underfives to detect short stature and stunting. Community service activities regarding prevention and early detection of short stature and stunting toddlers through the MTBS approach to toddlers are urgently needed, especially to improve toddler mothers, this is because mothers are the closest people to toddlers

Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project, kidney diseases significantly contribute to the global disease burden, resulting in approximately 850,000 deaths annually and 15,010,167 cases of disability, which lead to a decline in quality of life. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis face various issues that can cause biological, psychological, social, and spiritual imbalances. Objectives: This study aims to explore the challenges families encounter when caring for patients with chronic kidney disease. Methods: Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological research approach, the study involved in-depth interviews with a sample of five validated participants. The research identified four themes: (1) loyalty in caring for CKD patients; (2) feelings of sadness and concern regarding the patient's condition; (3) emotional burden of caregiving; and (4) acceptance of the patient's condition, with a central theme of accepting the CKD patient's status. Results: The research findings revealed four themes based on data collected from participants 1 to 5: (1) commitment to caring for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), (2) feelings of sadness and concern regarding the condition of CKD patients, (3) emotional burden associated with caring for CKD patients, and (4) acceptance of the CKD patients' condition. The data analysis process, based on the interview results from each participant, will be elaborated upon according to themes, sub-themes, and categories, along with excerpts from participants' statements. Conclusions: The findings from this study, which comprise four themes, indicate that families caring for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) face various psychological challenges that, if not addressed with appropriate coping mechanisms, can adversely affect their mental health status.

Abstract

Background: Educational services aimed at children of all ages are still not fully open, and teaching and learning activities from elementary grades onward are still being provided alternately offline and online. More than 2.2 billion children in the world, which is about 28% of the world's child population, experience changes in mental health. COVID-19 has affected the lives of children and young people like never before. Children may be more vulnerable than others to the psychosocial effects of a pandemic. This can hinder children's growth and development, eliminate children's opportunities to manage stress, and cause social isolation. This study aims to look at the relationship between post-COVID-19 impacts and the mental health of school-age children using the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI). Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study using a conclusive research design aimed at examining a phenomenon through hypothesis testing. Data collection was carried out at 38 Public Elementary School, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. The convenience sampling technique is used to select research respondents. Data collection used the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) questionnaire. Results: The results of the study obtained a p-value of 0.000 where 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between post-Covid-19 responses and the mental health impact of school-age children using the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) at 38 Public Elementary School, Kendari City. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the mental health of school-age children needs to be one of the elements included in the nursing care process that will be provided by nurses.

Abstract

Community Service Activity (PKM) was carried out in Kelurahan Toronipa with the aim of enhancing the community’s knowledge and skills in the areas of health and environmental management. The main issues identified were the high prevalence of hypertension and the low public awareness regarding proper household waste management. This program was implemented by supervising lecturers and thematic KKN (Kuliah Kerja Nyata) students from various study programs (Sanitation, Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychology and Public Health) using an educational and participatory approach. The activities conducted included waste management education, stress management training for individuals with hypertension, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, and health education on non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The results showed that 48 participants attended the waste management education session, with 30 successfully practicing Takakura composting and 15 individuals bringing ecobricks home. Stress management training was attended by 32 participants, 25 of whom stated that the relaxation techniques were easy to implement at home. A total of 61 individuals participated in the health screening, which identified 18 with high blood pressure and 7 with elevated blood sugar levels, all of whom were referred for further medical evaluation. The education session on non-communicable diseases was attended by 55 participants, with 90% able to mention at least two risk factors for hypertension and diabetes. These findings demonstrate that educational interventions are effective in increasing community awareness of healthy lifestyles and environmental management. It is recommended that this program be continued through collaboration with local health institutions and government authorities to achieve broader and more sustainable impact.
