Abstract

Abstract

Background: Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the main causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Psychological factors such as stress and lifestyle factors such as diet are known to play a role in increasing the risk of hypertension during pregnancy. Objective: To determine the relationship between stress levels and diet with the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy at Simpang IV Sipin Community Health Center, Jambi City. Method: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 96 pregnant women in the second and third trimesters selected using a total sampling technique. Stress levels were measured using the DASS-42 questionnaire, diet was measured using a structured questionnaire, and blood pressure was classified into Grade 1, 2, and 3 hypertension. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Most respondents experienced mild stress (70.8%), had a good diet (54.2%), and had Grade 1 hypertension (88.5%). Spearman's test results showed a strong and significant relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hypertension (rs = 0.691; p < 0.001), as well as a moderate and significant relationship between diet and the incidence of hypertension (rs = 0.386; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Stress levels and diet are significantly associated with the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy. Stress screening and nutrition education are needed as part of antenatal care.

Abstract

Excessive online gaming negatively impacts individuals, especially in academic settings, by reducing motivation, commitment, and cognitive functions critical for success. This study explores the correlation between online game addiction and cognitive function among members of the E-Sports Student Activity Unit at Universitas Jambi. A quantitative correlational design was applied with 66 participants selected by proportionate stratified random sampling. Online game addiction and cognitive function were assessed using the GASA and MoCA-Ina instruments, respectively. Results showed that 37.9% of respondents had moderate addiction levels, while 65.2% maintained normal cognitive function. Spearman rho test revealed a significant negative correlation (r = 0.784, p < 0.05), indicating that higher addiction levels were associated with lower cognitive function. The findings suggest the need for educational and counseling interventions to promote balanced gaming and academic performance.

Abstract

Asthma is a chronic non-communicable disease that cannot be cured but can be managed through pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Buteyko breathing technique on asthma control among asthma patients in a primary care setting. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design with intervention and control groups was used. The sample consisted of 42 respondents, with 21 participants in each group, selected using purposive sampling. The intervention group received supervised Buteyko breathing exercises twice a week for four weeks, while the control group received standard care. Asthma control was measured using the Asthma Control Test (ACT). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests after normality assumptions were assessed. The intervention group showed a significant improvement in ACT scores after the Buteyko breathing intervention (mean score increased from 14.38 to 18.95; p < 0.001), while the control group showed no significant change (mean score decreased from 14.19 to 13.81; p = 0.088). The post-test ACT score was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (p < 0.001), with a moderate effect size (Cohen's d = 0.64). These findings indicate that the Buteyko breathing technique may support asthma self-management and improve asthma control as a complementary non-pharmacological nursing intervention.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that triggers various serious complications, including peripheral neuropathy and diabetic foot ulcers. Prevention of these complications is a priority in DM management, one of which is through non-pharmacological interventions such as diabetic foot exercises. This educational activity on diabetic foot exercises at Raden Mattaher Regional General Hospital in Jambi aims to improve the understanding and skills of patients' families in caring for the feet of DM sufferers. Through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations, participants are expected to recognize the benefits of foot exercises, such as improved blood circulation, foot sensitivity, reduced blood glucose levels, and wound prevention. Evaluation of the activity showed that diabetic foot exercises are effective in reducing the risk of foot complications and improving the quality of life of sufferers. This education also emphasized the innovative use of simple tools such as newspaper and the empowerment of health cadres as part of the program's sustainability strategy. Thus, this outreach is a strategic step in strengthening the educational role of health services for families of diabetes patients in hospitals.

Abstract

Physical changes due to the disease and treatment of breast cancer affect patients' body image and cause significant emotional impacts. Social support is crucial in helping patients cope with these changes, reducing stress, and improving overall quality of life. The aim of the research was to determine the correlation between body image and quality of life, and to assess the relationship between social support and quality of life of breast cancer patients at the Surgical Polyclinic of Raden Mattaher General Hospital Jambi. The research used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample comprised 61 breast cancer patients, obtained by using the Lemeshow formula and purposive sampling method. The research instruments included the Body Image Scale questionnaire, the modified MOS Social Support questionnaire (MSS), and the EORTC-QLQ-BR23 questionnaire. The univariate results showed that the average quality of life score was 56.70 (moderate category), body image had an average score of 24.18 (moderate category), and social support had an average score of 62.80 (moderate category). The bivariate analysis found a correlation between body image and quality of life with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 and r = 0.940 and a correlation between social support and quality of life with a p-value of 0.003 < 0.05 and r = 0.371. Nurses can improve patients' quality of life by providing education about physical changes, offering emotional support, referring patients to support groups, and involving families in the healing process.
