Abstract

Politics (facts) and literature (fiction) are two things that both exist and are needed by society. The two are also often linked together. The specific relationship between politics understood as a way of doing things and literature understood as a practical form of writing. This study uses a qualitative descriptive design to trace the re-interpretation of political facts in modern Indonesian novels written during the post-reform era. The research data sources are post-reform novels published in modern Indonesian literature that reinterpret political facts. These political facts can be found through the thematic aspects, the mindset and actions of the characters, the arrangement of the plot (conflict), and descriptions of the story setting which are integral to the whole fictional story. The determination of novels to be used as data sources is based on the following considerations: (a) novels that re-interpret political facts related to the historical events of the 30 September 1965 Movement, (b) novels published during the post-reform era (2000s and above), and (c) novels written by female authors are of a generation that did not directly experience the events of the 30 September 1965 Movement. The results of the study are as follows. First, the political facts expressed in the novel, namely (a) the kidnapping and murder of seven generals, (b) the Cakrabirawa elite troops, (c) the kidnapping and murder of people who were considered to be part of the Indonesian Communist Party, (d) detention on the island Buru, (e) granting status as a descendant of the PKI, and (f) abolishing citizenship status for students studying in certain countries deemed to be affiliated with the communist party. Second, the reinterpretation of historical facts in the novel, namely (a) related to the journey of the past, (b) part of the journey of Indonesian history, (c) understanding from the human side, and (d) choices and awareness of the journey of life in the future. It is hoped that the results of the research can be implemented in teaching literature in schools and the wider community through scientific forums in an effort to socialize the possibility of using modern literary works as a source of historical information to support efforts to understand Indonesian history. If used critically and combined with other sources, novels that actualize and reinterpret political facts can be used as a source of knowledge and understanding of the nation's history. Keywords: political facts, reinterpretation, G30S/PKI movement, modern Indonesian novels

Abstract

Digital humanities offers a novel approach to comprehensively understand, analyze, and interpret literary texts. This study aims to elucidate the various digital humanities methods and their implications for advancing literary studies. A systematic literature review with a descriptive-analytical approach was employed to examine digital humanities methods and analytical tools within Indonesian literature. Four primary approaches were identified: (a) digital text analysis, (b) data visualization, (c) sentiment analysis and text classification, and (d) geographic mapping. Software such as Voyant Tools and AntCont facilitate textual analysis, while Tableau and Gephi open new dimensions in visualizing narrative structures and interrelations between literary elements. Machine learning methods and natural language processing libraries enable more sophisticated sentiment analysis and text classification. In contrast, ArcGIS and Neatline expand the exploration of spatial dimensions in literary works. Digital humanities methods allow for the integration of quantitative and qualitative analyses, yielding novel insights into literary text analysis. The implementation of digital humanities methods should be studied rigidly and critically, always considering the cultural and historical contexts of Indonesian literature. Digital humanities methods should also be viewed as a complement, rather than a replacement, for established conventional approaches. The integration of digital humanities methods enriches the body of knowledge in Indonesian literary studies.

The learning of literary is very important because with literary, students can develop thinking abilities, skills, and increase sensitivity through character. However, literary learning is often only a supporting material for Bahasa Indonesia which tend to be ignored. This research aims to reveal the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of literary learning in the Kurikulum Merdeka. Meanwhile, secondary data sources are obtained through analysis of documents accompanying learning, such as modules and evaluation result data. The data were then analysed using the Miles, Huberman and Saldana model. The results of the analysis show that literary learning in the Kurikulum Merdeka has strengths, namely being bound by the curriculum, innovative learning strategies, and technological support. The weaknesses of literary learning lie in the small portion of material, shallow learning, and technology without restrictions. The opportunities for literary learning lie in teacher flexibility and school support. The threats to literary learning that pose a challenge are suboptimal literary learning outcomes, low teacher competence, motivation, and inappropriate learning objectives.

Abstract

This research examines the linguistic characteristics of President Prabowo Subianto's inauguration speech (October 20, 2024) using a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The primary data consists of the full text of the speech (Setkab RI, 2024). The theoretical framework used includes Fairclough's (1989) three-dimensional model and Teun A. van Dijk's cognitive-discourse approach. The analysis focuses on five dimensions: (1) word choice, (2) rhetorical style (repetition, metaphor, parallelism, historical references), (3) discourse structure, (4) representation of power and inclusive identity, and (5) intertextuality and cultural values. The analysis shows that the speech makes extensive use of populist diction (“people,” “common folk,” pronouns “we,” “brothers and sisters”), repeats key phrases to emphasize the message, and inserts metaphors and cultural proverbs. Its structure is neatly organized: an interfaith greeting at the opening, main themes and narratives, and a closing containing national aspirations. The speaker emphasizes that power comes from the people (“power belongs to the people... We have power, with the people's permission”), stressing Indonesia's inclusive national identity (e.g., “we are all children of Indonesia”). These findings show how state speeches not only convey a vision but also implicitly represent ideology and power relations.
