Abstract

This research examines chemistry teachers’ understanding on Classroom Action Research (CAR) and their ability to design CAR in hybrid learning-based self-development program. The research employed one group pretest posttest design. Fifteen high school chemistry teachers in Sleman were involved. The program was carried out through course work and training following In-On-In format (face to face, practice, and face to face meetings). It was supported by the use of Tinular website (http://dikkitinular.wix.com/titinular). The research findings show that the increase of chemistry teachers’ understanding on CAR can be categorized as ‘medium’. Their ability to design a CAR can be categorized as ‘good’. The appropriateness of the action and data collection instrument constitute the ability with the lowest score. Continuous implementation of the program, appropriate supervision and scaffolding from the tutor significantly enhance teachers’ self-development. KEMAMPUAN MERANCANG PENELITIAN TINDAKAN KELAS GURU KIMIA DALAM PROGRAM BERBASIS HYBRID LEARNINGAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman guru kimia tentang penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) dan kemampuan mereka dalam merancang PTK dalam program pengembangan diri berbasis hybrid learning. Desain penelitian yang digunakan one group pretest posttest design. Subjek penelitian adalah 15 orang guru kimia SMA di Kabupaten Sleman. Program pengembangan diri berbasis hybrid learning dilaksanakan melalui kegiatan pendidikan dan pelatihan dengan pola In-On-In. Program diawali dengan tatap muka, praktik dan ditutup dengan tatap muka. Selama pelaksanaan program didukung penggunaan website Tinular (http://dikkitinular.wix.com/titinular). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman seluruh guru kimia tentang PTK mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori peningkatan “sedang”. Guru kimia memiliki kemampuan dalam merancang PTK dengan kategori baik. Ketepatan rancangan tindakan dan ketepatan instrumen pengambilan data merupakan indikator kemampuan dengan pencapaian terendah. Implementasi program yang kontinyu serta bimbingan dan scaffolding yang tepat dari tutor memberikan dukungan yang kuat bagi guru untuk pengembangan diri.

Abstract

The 21st century learning system demands the use of technology in learning instruction. This research focuses on the comparison between the use of android-based-game and blended learning in the Chemistry subject on the hydrocarbon lesson toward students’ self-efficacy and achievement. A quasi-experiment with post-test only design was adopted in this research. A number of 143 eleventh graders from two public senior high schools in Purworejo Regency, Indonesia were selected in a cluster random sampling as the research sample. The sample was classified into three groups depending on the media used, i.e. android-based-game only on face-to-face learning (ABG-FTFL), blended learning only (BL), and both android-based-game and blended learning (ABG-BL). Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) was used to obtain the data of students’ self-efficacy while the hydrocarbon test was used to obtain students’ achievement. One-way Analysis of Variance, Kruskal Wallis test, and descriptive quantity technique were performed in the data analysis, and it is found that the use of these technologies has a significant effect on the students’ self-efficacy and achievement. The use of ABG-BL is better in improving students’ self-efficacy while BL is better in enhancing students’ achievement. Therefore, the use of android-based-game and blended learning can be emphasized as media in chemistry learning to gain better self-efficacy and achievement among students.

Abstract

Assessments play an important role in chemistry learning and for specific uses. The construction of a test based on multiple representation approaches is needed for measuring the 21st century thinking skills. This study aims to construct and validate a standardized test to measure students’ analytical thinking and chemical representation ability in rate of reaction topic. The test captures four aspects on analytical thinking and four levels of multiple representations (macroscopic, sub-microscopic, symbolic and mathematic). A group of experts confirmed the construct and face validity of the Test of Analytical Thinking based on Multiple Representation (TAT-MR) with 32 items. The TAT-MR was then validated by participating 449 high school students. The test characteristics were analyzed usingRasch model with Partial Credit Model-1 Parameter Logistic (PCM-1PL) approach. The results of theRaschmodeling show that there are 22 TAT-MR items with excellent reliability. Hence, the TAT-MR is acceptable as a good instrument to collect the data. This study suggests that TAT-MR will prove to be a useful instrument for measuring the students’ ability on analytical thinking and chemical representation for rate of reaction topic in chemistry learning.

Abstract

Abstract: This study was aimed to examine the effectiveness of collaborative problem-solving-based learning to improve knowledge about chemistry content in the automotive vocational context. The study design used was one-group pretest-posttest design and applied to Vocational Chemistry subjects. Data analysis was performed by using the normalized gain-test formula and t-test using SPSS software version 21. The findings showed that collaborative learning is effective to improve pre-service teachers’ knowledge about chemistry content of petroleum and polymer chemistry. The mastery level of basic knowledge about the petroleum and polymers is fairly good. However, the knowledge of the content of petroleum and polymer applications in the automotive field is not satisfactory. Although the application content knowledge increased with the moderate criterion for the application of petroleum and with the low criterion for polymer applications, the mastery level of pre-service teachers at the end of the course was still low. Factors that allegedly become the causes of the low mastery of application content knowledge are the characteristic factor of the content, conceptual learning difficulties and the experience factor. Keywords: content knowledge, chemistry in the vocational context, preservice chemistry teachers, petroleum, polymers PEMBELAJARAN KOLABORATIF UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PENGETAHUAN KONTEN KIMIA KONTEKS KEJURUAN OTOMOTIF CALON GURU KIMIA Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas pembelajaran kolaboratif berbasis pemecahan masalah dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan konten kimia konteks kejuruan otomotif. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah one group pretes-postes design dan diterapkan pada mata kuliah Kimia SMK. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji t menggunakan software SPPS edisi 21 dengan menggunakan rumus gain-test yang dinormalisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran kolaboratif efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan konten minyak bumi dan polimer bagi mahasiswa calon guru kimia. Tingkat penguasaan pengetahuan dasar tentang minyak bumi dan polimer cukup baik. Namun, untuk pengetahuan konten aplikasi minyak bumi dan polimer dalam bidang otomotif belum memberikan hasil yang menggembirakan. Meskipun pengetahuan konten aplikasi tersebut meningkat dengan kriteria peningkatan sedang untuk aplikasi minyak bumi dan kriteria rendah untuk aplikasi polimer, tingkat penguasaan calon guru di akhir perkuliahan masih rendah. Faktor yang diduga menjadi penyebab rendahnya penguasaan pengetahuan konten aplikasi ini adalah faktor karakteristik konten, kesulitan belajar konseptual, dan faktor pengalaman.
