Abstract

The sorption of phosphate by montmorillonite at 10, 30, and 50 oC were investigated aiming to mainly determine thermodynamic parameters for the formation of surface complexes in the adsorption of phosphate ions by montmorillonite. Data were collected by adsorption edge experiments investigating the effect of pH, adsorption isotherms enabling the effect of sorbate concentration, and acid-base titration calculating protons released or taken up by adsorption process. Data analysis was carried out using surface complexation model to fit the data collected in this study using the parameters obtained from previous study, as well as to calculate the values of ΔH and ΔS. Previous study reported that phosphate ions formed two outer-sphere surface complexes with active sites of montmorillonite through hydrogen bonding. In the first complex,  [(XH)0– H2L─]─, the phosphate was held to permanent-charge X─ sites on the tetrahedral siloxane faces, and the second complex, [[(SO─)(SOH)]– – [H2L]─] 2─ was formed through the interaction between the phosphate and variable charge surface hydroxyl groups at the edges of montmorillonite crystals and on the octahedral alumina faces. The values of ΔH for the first and second reactions are 39.756 and 3.765x10-7 kJ mol‒1 respectively. Since both reactions have positive enthalpy values, it can be concluded that the reactions are endothermic. Large energy for the first reaction is needed by X─  sites (permanent negatively charge sites of montmorillonite) to be partially desolvated, on which K+ or other surface cations are replaced by H+ ions in the surface protonated process, and are then ready to interact phosphate ions in the solution. Small values of ΔH for the second reactions indicates that hydrogen bonds formed by phosphate and SOH sites in the second reaction are easily broken out, and the phosphate can easily desorbed from the surface. The values of ΔS for the first and second reactions are 122.523 and 2.393 x10-2  J K‒1 mol‒1, which are greater than -10 kJ mol‒1 and indicates that the surface reactions occurs through dissociative mechanisms.Keywords:   montmorillonite, adsorption edge, extended constant capacitance, surface complexation model, enthalpy, reaction mechanisms

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dan mengetahui karakteristik, kualitas dan efektifitas dari media pembelajaran berbasis android. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan. Penilaian produk dilakukan oleh ahli media, ahli materi, pendidik kimia, peer reviewers dan uji coba peserta didik. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui angket penilaian media, angket motivasi dan tes, kemudian dianalisis dengan Manova. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android memiliki karakteristik, yaitu visualisasi menarik, praktis dan fleksibel serta evaluasi soal yang variatif, (2) media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dinilai layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran, ditinjau dari aspek materi, aspek media dan hasil uji coba peserta didik, serta (3) terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan antara motivasi belajar dan prestasi kognitif peserta didik yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android layak dan efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran kimia. Kata Kunci: pengembangan, media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android, motivasi, prestasi kognitif.   DEVELOPING ANDROID-BASED CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA TO IMPROVE THE LEARNING MOTIVATION AND COGNITIVE ACHIEVEMENT OF SMA STUDENTS Abstract The aims of this study are: to develop android-based chemistry instructional media and to reveal the characteristic, the quality, and the effectiveness of android-based chemistry instructional media. This research was research and development. The product assessment was conducted by a media expert, a material expert, chemistry teachers peer reviewers and students. The data collecting technique was done by using media evaluation questionnaires, motivation questionnaire and test, then it was analysed by Manova. The results of the study show that: (1) the android-based chemistry instructional media has characteristic such as interesting visualisation, practical and flexible and vary of evaluation test, (2) the developed android-based chemistry instructional media is appropriate for teaching, in terms of material evaluation aspect, media evaluation aspect, and based on the results of students’ tryout, and (3) there is a significant differences in the improvement of learning motivation and cognitive achievement of students between learning using android-based chemistry instructional media and conventional learning. The result showed that the android-based chemistry instructional media was appropritly and effectively used for teaching. Abstract

Penggunaan media berbasis ICT (Information and Comunication Technology) pada perangkat android saat ini menjadi tren dalam penelitian pendidikan sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa SMA. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah posttest-pretest-control group design. Subjek penelitian adalah SMAN 1 Banguntapan Yogyakarta yang terdiri atas satu kelas eksperimen dan satu kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data menggunakan angket motivasi belajar dengan skala Likert. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis nilai gain-nya untuk mengetahui peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa SMA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dapatmemberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa SMA.

Abstract

Pengembangan dan penggunaan media pembelajaran berbantuan perangkat Android saat ini mulai menjadi tren penelitian di bidang pendidikan sains. Media pembelajaran  “Chemondro” merupakan software media pembelajaran kimia yang dapat dioperasikan menggunakan perangkat dengan sistem operasi Android. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh penggunaan media pembelajaran kimia “Chemondro” pada materi kelarutan terhadap peningkatan kemandirian belajar siswa SMA. Penelitian dilakukan di SMAN 10 Yogyakarta dengan menggunakan desain uji coba posttest-pretest-control group design. Kemandirian belajar diukur dengan angket kemandirian belajar yang menggunakan peringkat Likert. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada peningkatan kemandirian belajar antara siswa yang menggunakan media pembelajaran “Chemondro” dan siswa yang tidak menggunakannya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk berupa media mobile learning berbasis android sebagai suplemen belajar pada materi larutan penyangga dan hidrolisis untuk siswa SMA kelas XI IPA. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta. Pembelajaran kimia dengan menggunakan media mobile learning ini memiliki karakteristik yang memanfaatkan teknologi dalam pembelajaran sehingga dapat digunakan bagi siapa saja, dimana saja dan kapan saja.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian pengembangan ini berdasarkan adaptasi model pengembangan Borg & Gall yang dikelompokkan menjadi tiga bagian, yaitu studi pendahuluan, pengembangan produk awal, dan evaluasi/penilaian produk. Produk awal telah direview oleh ahli materi dan ahli IT. Selanjutnya hasil revisi dinilai berdasarkan materi, pengoperasian dan tampilan media oleh reviewer (guru kimia) dan peer reviewer. Kemudian diujicobakan kepada siswa SMA untuk mengetahui kelayakan media mobile learning berbasis android.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media mobile learning berbasis android pada materi larutan penyangga dan hidrolisis yang telah dikembangkan dinilai layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran ditinjau dari aspek penilaian materi  termasuk dalam kriteria “baik”, aspek penilaian media berkriteria “sangat baik” dan hasil uji coba peserta didik termasuk dalam kategori “sangat baik”

Abstract

The virtual laboratory for electrochemistry materials has been developed. The characteristic of this virtual chemistry laboratory associated with the effect on students? achievement was analyzed. Thus this type of research was research and development by using ADDIE development model. In the implementation, the phase of the product was the quasi experimental method with a post-test only design. Classes used for this study were 3 classes, first-class using traditional laboratory, a second class using only virtual laboratory, and the third class using traditional laboratory and virtual laboratory as a supplement. All three classes were performed by the same teacher and the learning time. The instrument used to see the effect of the virtual laboratory was a test instrument. While the instrument used to assess the quality of the media was a questionnaire assessment. The results of this study were a developed virtual laboratory that can be operated via the web on smartphones and computers. In addition, the results of the assessment by the chemistry teachers stated that the virtual laboratory was in good quality and in classroom studies, the third and first classes showed significant differences. In the future research virtual laboratory as a supplement in other subject, matters can be developed.

Abstract

This study aims to integrate ICT by designing and applying online moodle as an e-learning material for class XII TKR.B students of SMK Negeri 1 Purworejo who undergo On Job Training for three months. In developing the e-learning, researchers use Research and Development method and ADDIE instructional design. Result of this study is the design and implementation of moodle as online learning media for OJT students. Teachers can upload learning modules and provide a test to determine the extent of students' understanding of material provided by the module. Online moodle can be accessed by students anytime and anywhere, either from mobile phone or internet cafes. All facilities provided in online moodle can easily be used as a medium of distance learning.

Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are one of the skills needed in the chemistry learning process, in order to gain a complete understanding of the concepts. This skills categorized into two types; basic and integrated. This research aimed to develop a product of Augmented Reality (AR) learning media then to know its feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness on students’ basic SPS on acid base learning. The research adopted Research and Development (R&D) with 4-D model consisted of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. Questionnaire was used to measure the feasibility and practicality. Then, the obtained data were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative descriptive. In addition, SPS test was used to measure the effectiveness of AR learning media and the data were analyzed by the test of One-way ANOVA, Tukey’s Post Hoc test, and General Linear Model (GLM) Univariate. The result showed that the AR learning media is feasible, practical, and effective with big influence to support students’ basic SPS on acid base learning.

Abstract

The 21st century learning system demands the use of technology in learning instruction. This research focuses on the comparison between the use of android-based-game and blended learning in the Chemistry subject on the hydrocarbon lesson toward students’ self-efficacy and achievement. A quasi-experiment with post-test only design was adopted in this research. A number of 143 eleventh graders from two public senior high schools in Purworejo Regency, Indonesia were selected in a cluster random sampling as the research sample. The sample was classified into three groups depending on the media used, i.e. android-based-game only on face-to-face learning (ABG-FTFL), blended learning only (BL), and both android-based-game and blended learning (ABG-BL). Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) was used to obtain the data of students’ self-efficacy while the hydrocarbon test was used to obtain students’ achievement. One-way Analysis of Variance, Kruskal Wallis test, and descriptive quantity technique were performed in the data analysis, and it is found that the use of these technologies has a significant effect on the students’ self-efficacy and achievement. The use of ABG-BL is better in improving students’ self-efficacy while BL is better in enhancing students’ achievement. Therefore, the use of android-based-game and blended learning can be emphasized as media in chemistry learning to gain better self-efficacy and achievement among students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan media komik IPA berbasis karakter, mengetahui kelayakan media komik berbasis karakter, mengetahui keefektifan media komik berbasis karakter terhadap pengembangan nilai karakter dan pemahaman konsep IPA.     Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development dengan mengacu pada 10 langkah utama yang dikembangkan oleh Borg Gall. Subjek coba pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Wiyata Mandala Balikpapan dengan rincian: 10 peserta untuk uji coba kelompok kecil dan 30 peserta didik untuk uji coba lapangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, angket, observasi, dan tes. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif, teknik gain dan uji Wilcoxon.     Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) telah dihasilkan media komik IPA berbasis karakter, 2) media komik yang dikembangkan ditinjau dari variabel kualitas aspek  media dan aspek materi menurut ahli, menurut guru dan respon siswa berkategori sangat baik, 3) pembelajaran dengan media komik yang dikembangkan efektif meningkatkan nilai karakter siswa, dan pemahaman konsep sains.Kata Kunci: pengembangan, media komik, nilai karakter, pemahaman konsep  DEVELOPING CHARACTER-BASED SCIENCE COMIC IN IMPROVING  STUDENTS’ CONCEPT UNDERSTANDING OF STUDENTS SMP WIYATA MANDALA BALIKPAPAN             The objectives of this research were to resulting of character-based science comics, to find out the appropriatness and the effecitiveness of character-based science comic in improving character values and science concept understanding.            This research is Research and Development (RD). The steps of development were adapted from 10 steps of Borg Gall model. The sample consists of 40 students of SMP Wiyata Mandala, Balikpapan, Indonesia from which 10 students participated in preliminary field testing, and the 30 other students participated in main field testing. The data were collected by using questionnaires, tests, observation and interview checklist. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon test and gain techniques.            The results showed that have produce character-based science comics, the media was very good in quality based on the reviews from the science education experts, teachers and students. The character-based science comic significantly improved students’ character and students’ science concept understanding.Keywords: research and development, comic, character values, concept understanding.
