Abstract

Food additives are often used or added intentionally into processed food or beverage products are dyes. Dyes are divided into two types: natural dyes and synthetic dyes. Syrup circulating in the community generally contains a lot of synthetic dyes, this is done by manufacturers to reduce production costs and make the appearance of materials to be attractive. The use of synthetic dyes in addition to having a positive impact on producers and consumers can also cause a negative impact, especially for consumers. When compared with natural dyes, synthetic dyes have the more negative impact on health. Currently, farmer groups from Kalampangan Village treat Rosella as syrup. Evident from the observations in the field Rosella syrup production of farmers groups is quite interested in the local community. Therefore this study aims to analyze synthetic dyes on Rosella processed products produced by farmer groups from Kalampangan Urban Village, Palangka Raya. Rosella flower syrup samples were analyzed qualitatively by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method. In the Thin Layer Chromatography method, the sampling treatment was carried out by the withdrawal of the dye using a fat-free wool yarn. There are 4 (four) synthetic dyes identified by the identification in the sample Ponceau, Carmoisine, Brilliant Blue and Rhodamine B. The result obtained is on Eluen I (Ethyl Methyl Ketone: Acetone: Water) Rf raw Ponceau 4R 0.7667, Rf raw Carmoisine 0.8266, Rf Brilliant Blue 0.7466 raw, and Rf raw Rhodamin B 0.8667 while in the sample there is no stain.

Abstract

Hati Tanah tuber (Angiopteris sp) is a plant part that is often used by Dayak tribes in Central Kalimantan as a medicine to heal wounds. This plant is known to contain flavonoid, saponin, tannin and catechol compounds which in previous studies have proven that ethanol extract of this plant can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium that causes infection in wounds. Some of these strains of bacteria are resistant to available antibiotics. In this study two bases of ointment were used, namely, the bottom of the hydrocarbon ointment and the base of the water-soluble lotion. This study aims to determine the ointment formulation which can inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria. Plant extraction is done by the soxhletation method. The inhibitory test in this study uses a process of planting discs that contain active substances as the primary test material. The results showed that the base ointment formulation which could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria was an ointment formulation with a water-soluble base.

Abstract

Gel Hand Sanitizer is a hand sanitizer useful for cleaning or eliminating germs on hands. Aloe Vera (Aloe vera L.) contains active substances such as saponins that function as antiseptics. Substances contained in noni leaves (Morinda citrifolia L.) that act as antibacterials are anthraquinones. This study aims to determine whether the combination of Aloe vera extract (Aloe vera L.) and Noni leaf extract (Morinda citrifolia L.) can be formulated as a hand sanitizer gel. This study used experimental research methods; in this study, modifications were made to the formulas, namely F0, F1, F2, and F3, with modifications in the amount of carbopol and different glycerin. The tests on the four formulas, including organoleptic and pH tests, meet the requirements for testing preparations. At the same time, the homogeneity test showed that only the gel base was homogeneous, while formulas 1, 2, and 3 were not homogeneous. This research concludes that Aloe Vera (Aloe vera L.) extract and Noni leaf extract (Morinda citrifolia L.) cannot be formulated into hand sanitizer gel preparations because the texture of the preparations is not homogeneous and still leaves a color when applied on the hands.
