Abstract

Adolescence is a period characterized by transitions, some of which have been found detrimental to one’s mental health. One of the effects brought by these changes is increased in adolescent’s perceived stress. Studies showed that adolescents’ sociocognitive development as well as increased exposure to stressor exacerbates the stress. Moreover, this phenomenon can be different across age in adolescence. Meanwhile, dispositional mindfulness is found to be a protective factor, which works by modulating one’s reactivity to stressor. This study aims to find if dispositional mindfulness interacts with age in affecting adolescents’ perceived stress. Analysis using Two-Way ANOVA to 361 adolescents aged 13-18 (M=16) found that there is indeed an interaction effect: dispositional mindfulness was determined to have a greater relationship with perceived stress in early adolescents as opposed to late adolescents. Theoretical implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract

The Covid-19 incident reminds us that having an emergency fund is a crucial allocation outcome for someone in the face of unexpected conditions. The fact is that from various surveys conducted, most Indonesians admit that they do not have adequate emergency funds. This research was conducted to see how financial literacy and spending behavior influence the ownership of emergency funds in young adults in Surabaya. Young adults were chosen in this study because, based on previous studies, in this age range, a person begins to move into a condition of being economically independent and should already be doing financial planning. Data were obtained through questionnaires and processed using logistic regression. The results of the study show that both financial literacy and spending behavior have a significant effect on emergency fund ownership among young adults in Surabaya. This research contributes to the personal finance literature by providing an overview of emergency fund ownership. For young adults, this research can provide insight into the meaning of financial literacy and spending behavior and how these variables can affect one's emergency fund.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of laptop condition on pricing in the eBay marketplace, using statistical analysis to provide actionable insights for digital marketing strategies. The analysis is based on a dataset containing 2,952 laptop listings, categorized by condition into New, Open box, Excellent - Refurbished, Very Good - Refurbished, and Good - Refurbished. An ANOVA test revealed a significant difference in mean prices across these conditions (F-value = 76.69, p < 0.0001), indicating that condition is a critical factor in pricing. Post-hoc analysis using Tukey's HSD test further highlighted specific pairwise differences. For instance, the price difference between New and Good - Refurbished laptops was found to be approximately $192.66 (p < 0.0001), confirming that even minor wear significantly impacts consumer perception and pricing. Additionally, Excellent - Refurbished laptops were priced, on average, $62.79 higher than their New counterparts (p = 0.0008), suggesting a premium for well-maintained refurbished models. A multiple linear regression model was employed to quantify the impact of various factors on pricing, including condition, brand, RAM, and processor type. The model, with an R-squared value of 0.429, indicated that these variables collectively explain 42.9% of the variation in laptop prices. Despite the model's moderate fit, the coefficients provided insights into the relative importance of each factor, with condition emerging as the most influential determinant. The findings suggest that eBay sellers should prioritize accurate and detailed descriptions of product condition to optimize pricing strategies. These results underscore the importance of condition-based pricing in digital marketing, offering a data-driven approach to maximizing profitability in online marketplaces.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Lignin is a valuable material that can be obtained from the black liquor generated during dissolving pulp production from lignocellulosic materials. Lignin can be used to produce biopolymers, fuels, value-added chemicals, and other functional materials. This study investigates the isolation and characterization of lignin from four lignocellulosic biomass sources i.e. Metroxylon sagu palm fronds (SPF), oil palm fronds (OPF), Cratoxylum arborescens, and Eucalyptus pellita using environmentally friendly soda–methylanthraquinone (soda–MAQ, 160 ºC for 1.5 h) pulping followed by acid precipitation with hydrochloric acid (pH 2.0-2.5). The lignin yield varied among the materials (68.3-88.8%), with E. pellita showing the highest recovery. SEM analysis revealed distinct differences in lignin morphology, where E. pellita lignin exhibited a more condensed and homogeneous structure compared to the more fragmented forms from non-wood biomass. FT-IR spectra confirmed the presence of guaiacyl, syringyl, and hydroxyl phenol units in all samples. EDX analysis supported the natural lignin composition, especially in E. pellita, OPF, and C. arborescens. Among the four sources, lignin from E. pellita demonstrated the greatest potential for value-added applications, followed by C. arborescens and OPF. These findings provide valuable insight into lignin recovery from diverse biomass and its suitability for further bioproduct development. Keywords: Biomass, characterization, dissolving pulp, lignin, soda-methylanthraquinone

Abstract

Abstract

Investment scams are everywhere. So we need to understand better what makes people notice financial risks online. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of Digital Financial Literacy (DFL) and Financial Stress (FS) on Awareness of Investment Scam (AoIS) in Indonesian young adults, moderated by Financial Behavior (FB). Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Stress and Coping Theory, this study explains how digital financial knowledge, financial stress, and financial behavior interact in forming awareness of digital investment scam. The research uses a quantitative associative method and involves 400 respondents aged 20–40 years who actively use social media. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results of the measurement model show good reliability and validity. The structural model shows that DFL, FS, and FB have a significant effect on AoIS. In addition, FB strengthens the influence of DFL on AoIS and reduces the influence of FS on AoIS. The findings show that higher digital financial literacy and good financial behavior increase people’s awareness of investment scams, while financial stress that is managed adaptively can also increase alertness through a problem-focused coping process.
