Abstract

Peasant women play an essential role in achieving the SDG's. Women's self-capacity must be improved through non-formal education, namely rural development extensions. Community service activities in the Returning Home Lecturers Program were conducted at the Putri Langgeng Peasant Women's Group in Godog Village, Polokarto District, Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java. The aim is to increase women's knowledge, awareness, and skills in terms of increasing digital literacy, namely being able to use cellphones wisely and utilizing the Rumah Sawit application as IPB's innovative work, early detection of stunting symptoms, utilizing yard land to increase family income, preventing and dealing with violence against women and children. The impact of community service helps achieve SDG's goals, namely goal #1, no poverty; #3, good health and well-being; and #4, quality education. The impact of this community service is an increase in household income, with vegetable yields worth an average of IDR 100.000 per month, and catfish harvests from tarpaulin ponds between IDR 300.000‒400.000 per growing season. Other impacts of various vegetables and Calina papaya have been introduced to the village community and outside the village. In the health sector, stunting mats have been used by four Godog Village posyandus as a tool for early detection of stunting.

Abstract

The presence of development journalists is needed to criticize, study, evaluate, and report on the relevance of development projects. The press, as the fourth pillar of democracy, has a very crucial role in conveying criticism. The research aims to analyze the influence of society's information needs (X1), politics (X2), and government (X3) on the quality of development messages (Y1) and news (Y2). The research methodology uses a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanation strategy. The  research population covers  television news viewers and observers. The research sample consisted of 110 respondents who were viewers and observers of news broadcasts in mainstream media. The research results show: (1) there is a significant influence between the information need variable based on the community perspective (X1) on the quality of development messages (Y1); (2) there is no significant influence between the variable information needs based on the perspective of the business world (X2), politics (X3), and government (X4) on news quality (Y2), but there is an influence of public information needs (X1) on news quality (Y2). Based on information from press representative institutions, there was a decline in quality caused by: (1) complaints of violations from the Indonesian Broadcasting Institution; (2) less attractive news packaging; (4) social media competition; (5) in-depth news analysis; (6) intervention from stakeholders; (7) lack of cross-sectoral support; and (8) the small compensation received by journalists. In conclusion, information needs based on society's perspective do not influence the quality of development messages but do influence the quality of news.

Abstract

WITH GENDER ROLES IN CENTRAL JAVA’S COASTAL AREAProblems in the capture fisheries, aquaculture, and small-scale processing and marketing sectors indicate that the human resource capabilities of both men and women in the development process still need to be improved. This condition makes it important to have a process in place to enhance the capabilities of individuals involved in fisheries through Fisheries extension programs that consider holistic aspects. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sustainable coastal fisheries extension from a gender perspective and analyze the factors that inffuence it. The researcher used a quantitative and qualitative approach by collecting data through surveys and interviews on 291 small-scale fisheries actors consisting of fishermen, cultivators, processors, and marketers in Jepara Regency, Kebumen Regency, and Cilacap Regency. The data analysis using SEM PLS and Smart PLS analysis tools. The Results of the Study showed that the implementation of fisheries extension has not been equally accessible to men and women. Jepara Regency The location is identified as the area with the highest percentage of men who easily reach the implementation of fisheries extension, namely 30.9% for extension programs, 22% for extension methods, and 26% for extension materials. The inffuencing factors are the cultural values of the community and extension support.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to 1) describe youth attitudes toward tourist village management and 2) analyse the factors influencing these attitudes. Methodology/approach: This study employs a mixed-methods approach, primarily quantitative with qualitative support. Using purposive sampling, we selected 71 respondents meeting the following criteria: aged 17-45 years, current residency status (non-travelers), employment status (working or unemployed), marital status (unmarried). Results/findings: The study revealed three key findings: 1) Youth attitudes toward tourism village business management were generally positive, with the affective dimension being most prominent; 2) Five factors significantly influenced these attitudes: individual characteristics, entrepreneurial traits, social learning, environmental support, and motivation. These factors collectively explained 49.4% of the variance in youth attitudes. Conclusions: Although youth maintain positive beliefs and evaluations regarding tourist village business management, this does not necessarily translate into their intention to engage in more formal contexts. Other determining factors come into consideration, including potential benefits and work flexibility. Limitations: This study does not account for tourism village infrastructure conditions, which may be significant predictors of youth attitudes toward tourism village business management. The quantitative design may overlook nuanced motivational factors. We recommend that future research employ FGD to examine youth motivations in greater depth qualitatively. Contribution: The village government can implement a two-pronged strategy to foster youth entrepreneurship: 1) Establish Village Youth Business Groups, 2) Create Experiential Learning Opportunities. This approach combines structural support with social learning, increasing capability and motivation.

Abstract

Coconut is an important commodity for people in Aceh Besar, serving as a source of food, income, industrial raw materials, and coastal conservation. However, its sustainability is vulnerable to strategic environmental changes such as declining cultivation areas and productivity, limited acces to technology, insufficient role of farmer organizations, limited extension services, and pest attacks. Allegedly, the sustainability of the coconut business is affected by the level of farmers’ resilience, which underlies the development of farmer autonomy, enabling them to sustain their businesses in the long term. This research aims to analyze the factors that affect farmers’ resilience, autonomy, and the sustainability of their coconut businesses, and to examine the interrelationships among these variables. The research was conducted through a survey involving 106 coconut farmers in June-July 2024. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the SEM PLS method. The results show that farmers exhibit low levels of resilience, autonomy, and business sustainability. Both farmer resilience and autonomy show a direct positive effect on business sustainability. Resilience is affected by farmer characteristics, the role of extension workers, and social capital. Farmer autonomy is affected by farmer characteristics. Developing sustainable coconut businesses is achieved by enhancing farmers’ motivation, tailoring extension media to their needs, and strengthening their social networks.
