Abstract

Farm and convection workers, who are part of the poor, have become even poorer during the economic crisis. Looking at their income in two different time periods, these groups have experienced an increase, but expenditure has instead been higher than income. Subjectively, these people indeed acknowledge that they have faced numerous problems during the crisis. Ironically, a number of them do not regard this as something that has increased their suffering. By some coincidence, there are employment opportunities in the study area that can potentially be used to survive. It is, however, difficult to predict how long this situation can sustain. They do not only suffer the consequence of sky rocketing prices of basic needs, which has eroded their purchasing power, but they also share the pain suffered by their employers. Their high dependence on the convection entrepreneurs, landowners and plantation entrepreneurs has made them very vulnerable to economic changes that take place like the current crisis.

Abstract

The number of elderly in the province of Yogyakarta Special Region has showed an absolute and relative tendencies to increase. The average increase from 1971 to 1995 which was 3.27 percent per year, cannot be separated from the uprising of people life expectancy. The increasing of life expectancy, in one hand indicates to be positive phenomena, but in another hand, brings forth the problem of cares. The changes of time and family structures have affected the cares of aging people which was different from what they did to their parents. This study which applies both qualitative and quantitative methods in the subdistricts of Umbulharjo, Kraton, and Pakualaman, within the city of Yogyakarta shows that the majority of elderly has disapproved the presence of special institutions for them. To take care of aging persons has been regarded as an obligation of every children to indicate devotions to their parents. Furthermore, for elderly living with children and grandchildren, may also serve as motivation of life enthusiasms and to keep away from loneliness as the most troublesome psychological problems.

Abstract

The paradigm of trickle down effect development is not occurred by itself. Thus, there are some groups within the society that still have not derived from the outcome of the development. Those groups remain living in poverty which need government attention. Although the government has intervened to undertake poverty in the forms of the national development programs, have not been able to achieve their goals due to the various drawbacks and implementations. These obstructions have frequently related with the decision of the aspects of real target groups, and the problems of the unequal distribution. Besides problems of implementation, these programs had not meet with success in providing empowerment and sustainability, therefore, the poor had to actively create a strategy for survival. In discussing issues about poverty, it is imperative to further examine not only the causes and the problems of it, but also another important issue such as efforts of the suffering society to overcome its problem. Various strategies as a response of the limitations of government role towards society can be categorized into two levels: the households, that would be the focus of the discussion, and the community levels.

Abstract

Trust is an important aspect in human relationship. According to previous research trust is influenced by 2 main attributes: personal (benevolence, integrity, and competence) and relational (support, closeness, and reciprocity) attribute. The study aimed to find a preliminary model to explain the association of personal and relational attributes in adolescent friendship. Two hundred and twenty participants (male=44.09% and female=55.91%) participated in the study. A survey method was used to collect the data. The design of this study was correlational design. Results from enter method in regression analysis show that six factors of personal and relational attributes influence trust at 44.5%. However, closeness had no significant influence on trust, so closeness was not included in the next analysis, the sequential analysis. The result shows that the relational attribute has higher influence on trust than personal attribute. Support and reciprocity factors which belong to relational attribute, has a higher contribution to trust in adolescent friendship than benevolence, integrity and competence – the latter three factors belonging to the personal attribute. Therefore building trust in friendship requires an emphasis on relational attributes of trust, especially that of support and reciprocity factors.

Abstract

Prior qualitative research by Faturochman and Minza (2014) on trust in Indonesia found that trust is influenced by relational attributes, including closeness, support, and reciprocity. This study aims to examine whether the findings of the previous research can be applied in specific forms of relationships, e.g. friendship. The survey method is used in this study, involving 97 males and 123 (N = 220) females who completed a scale related to the variables studied. We found that support and reciprocity significantly predicted the score of trust. However, closeness did not. It was also found that the effect of support is higher than reciprocity. Based on the research, we created the regression model with the contribution of support to the trust 37.8%, then reciprocity addition which was analyzed together with support gave a total contribution to the trust 41.5%. The implication of this study is further discussed.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has given an impact on various aspects of human life forcing humans to adapt to the existing condition. This study aimed to explore the adaptation process toward the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The research method applied was quantitative-descriptive. A total of 544 Indonesian citizens filled out an online social perception toward risk and spread of COVID-19 scale through a google form. The results focused on the adaptive response of the community consisting of both perceptions and behaviors. This study found that the adaptation of the society to deal with COVID-19 did not only occur at the individual level but also at the collective level. At the individual level, there were two kinds of psychological adaptation found namely active and passive. At the collective level, this study suggested that collective coping is an important form of social-psychological adaptation in which solidarity is the essence of the process.

Abstract

Javanese and Chinese Indonesians (Tionghoa) ethnicity both emphasize the importance of social harmony in their relations. Does it exist in intermarriage of these two ethnics? The present study describes the existence of interdependence and its dynamics in the marital relation between Chinese Indonesian women and Javanese men by applying qualitative method with phenomenology approach on 24 married couples in Solo and Yogyakarta. The result shows that interdependence manifestation in interethnic marriage includes identity establishment, the use of power, and the utilization of resources. Identity establishment consists of fused identity, layered identity, attributed identity, and value-focused identity. The use of power exists in variations of hierarchy, domination, and versatile. The utilization of resource shows the variations of communal-sharing, transaction, and domination. Interdependence dynamics between husband and wife manifest in interpersonal level which emphasizes the role of trust and distrust, intrapersonal level which is expressed in affection toward spouse, transcendetal level which is voiced in the role of trust toward transcendental agents, and intergroup level which is pointed to role of meta-relational model of extended family.

Abstract

Rape as a criminal behavior has continued and many victims suffered physical, psychological, and social problems. Among other problems, post traumatic stress disorder is a psychological problem found in four cases of rape in this study. Since there is no systematic social and structural solution to help the victims, family supports become the most possible treatment to lessen the psychological and social problems after experiencing those horrible events. Keywords: Rape, Solution.

Abstract

The heuristic theory of justice proposes that earlier information and judgment affect the later judgment. If the earlier information and judgment is of procedure it will affect the judgment of distributive fairness. In contrast, if the earlier information and judgment is distributive fairness judgment it will affect the judgment of procedural fairness. This study shows that the influence of earlier information and fairness judgment is effective if it is procedural matter. The effect of distribution and distributive fairness judgment on procedural fairness judgment is not significant. Keywords: procedural fairness, distributive fairness, heuristic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of work-family positive value, which is based on gender theory and ecological theory, as a mediation of the influence of husband’s support toward both job and marital satisfaction among working women. The subjects of this study were 188 female workers who lived together with their husbands and took care of children below 12 years. By applying structural equation modeling, the proposed model fit with the data (χ2 = 1,628; p=0.202 and GFI = 0.996). Furthermore, the result shows that the effect of variabel of husband’s support increases when the work-family positive value as a mediating variable is applied. The theoretical and practical implications of the result are discussed. Keywords: husband’s support, work-family positive value, job satisfaction, marital satisfaction
