Abstract

The poor regeneration of farmers is a significant strain on the Indonesian agricultural sector. The negative stereotypical view of the farming profession is the cause of the reluctance of the younger generation to get involved and persist in agriculture. However, there is a strong potential for environmental support and land access as well as access to off-farm work to be factors that can encourage young farmers to remain in agriculture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the determinants of the willingness of young farmers to continue in the agricultural sector, specifically on the outskirts of Pontianak, West Kalimantan. This is accomplished by taking into account the proximity of the area to the city center, as well as certain demographic factors, in which the choice of occupation and decision to remain a farmer presents numerous obstacles. This study took a quantitative approach, with a sample size of 47 persons, and was analyzed using logistic regression. The findings of the study indicate that social environmental support from family and residents has a significant impact on young farmers' willingness to continue in agriculture. Social environmental support will help to eradicate negative stereotypes about farming, increasing young farmers' trust and confidence that becoming a farmer will give them pride and a secure future.  The results of this study also demonstrate that growing levels of education, farming experience, and off-farm job access improve the likelihood of young farmers' willingness to continue in the agricultural sector.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the household income structure of farmers residing around the oil palm plantations in Kersik Belantian Village, Jelimpo District. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observations, and questionnaires to 43 farmer households. This research was conducted in a descriptive quantitative manner to calculate and describe the conditions of the income sources of farmers around the oil palm plantations. The data processing results show that income from the agricultural sector, particularly from on-farm oil palm activities, plays a central role in the economy of farmer households in Kersik Belantian Village. The sale of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of oil palm is the main source of income, driven by large land areas and high productivity. However, reliance on oil palm also has a significant impact on income diversification, with non-oil palm and off-farm income becoming important as additional income that reduces the risk of price fluctuations and decreases in oil palm production. Additionally, the non-farm sector also makes a vital contribution to household income, with additional jobs outside of agriculture providing the necessary economic stability to face uncertainties in the on-farm sector. Although on-farm oil palm activities provide substantial economic benefits, high dependency also carries economic and environmental risks, emphasizing the importance of income diversification to maintain economic and environmental sustainability in the future. Therefore, efforts to reduce dependence on oil palm and increase income diversification should be a focus in the economic development planning of Kersik Belantian Village.

Abstract

The development of the palm oil industry has had a significant impact on the regional economy, particularly in West Kalimantan. Palm oil industry has become one of the pillars of the economy in West Kalimantan because it has the potential to support land. This investment plays an important role in economic growth, because it can increase the growth rate and income of farmers, especially in Jelimpo District. However, investment activities are inseparable from risks that can cause losses. Seeing investment activities that are inseparable from risks, making decisions before starting an investment is very necessary. The purpose of the study, was to analyze the risk perception and tolerance of farmers towards palm oil investment decisions in Jelimpo District, Landak Regency. The method used in this study is quantitative descrptive. This study was conducted in Angan Tembawang Village and Kayu Ara Village, Jelimpo District, Landak Regency, with 86 sample respondents representing palm oil farmers. The variables in this study were divded into 3 (three), namely risk perception, tolerance and investment decisions. The two-tailed risk perception and tolerance attitude scores for the Spearman rank test were 0.000 and 0.005, respectively, due to the significance level (Sig).(2-tailed) 0.05 indicates that farmers' attitudes toward risk and their level of tolerance influence their choices about palm oil investments. While the correlation coefficient value of risk perception of 0.382 and farmer tolerance attitude of 0.302 means that the level of relationship between variables has a sufficint relationship. The results of the study showed that farmer perception of risk is in the high category, meaning that farmers consider palm oil investment as a farming activity that is full of threats and potential losses. While the farmer tolerance attitude towards risk is in the medium category or has a risk neutral attitude, meaning that farmers have a neutral attitude towards risk and tend to consider potential risks and benefits in a balanced manner when making investment decisions.

Abstract

Among the sub-districts in Ketapang Regency, Sandai District has the largest output of rice cultivation, which is attributed to the huge number of farmers and the area of land dedicated to rice cultivation. However, as a district with high rice production, farmers in Sandai District also face production risks. This risk is a determining factor in the availability of their crops. This study aims to analyse production risk and the influence of production factors on rice farming risk. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods, and uses primary and secondary data. This research is a sample study. To determine the influence of production factors on production risk, data analysis was conducted with the coefficient of variation (CV) and the production variance function method to multiple linear regression analysis by Just and Pope. The findings indicated that the production risk associated with rice cultivation had a coefficient of variation (CV) of 33.36% in Sandai Sub-district and the production risk factors that significantly influenced the production of rice farming were NPK fertiliser, pesticides and seeds.

Abstract

The community in Jeruju Besar Village has been engaged in coconut farming for generations. The income of coconut farmers' families does not solely come from coconut farming, but also from other sources of income. This is because coconut farmers harvest their coconuts every three months. As the coconut trees age and their production declines, the income of the coconut farmers also decreases. The purpose of this study is to explore the extent of income derived from coconut farming and its contribution to the family income. Data collected from the field will be organized into tables and analyzed using a descriptive quantitative method, which involves using numbers to be interpreted, analyzed, and concluded to describe the research object. All necessary information to measure the contribution of coconut farming to the overall family income is presented through simple contribution tables. The results of the study in Jeruju Besar Village concluded that the average income received by coconut farmers over three months is approximately Rp. 3,294,571.00, or equivalent to Rp. 4,640,240.00 per hectare, with the contribution percentage of coconut farming to household income being 31.03%, which falls into the low category. It is important to provide counseling on maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide assistance, as well as care for old coconut trees to farmers in order to increase coconut production.

Abstract

The Sustainable Food Yard Program (P2L) is an activity carried out by community groups that jointly work on their yard as a source of food in a sustainable manner to increase availability, accessibility and utilization, as well as income. This study aimed to find out the characteristics of yard cultivation in the program and found that the majority of participants had yards with an area of less than 100 m2 with an average land area of 32.4 m2, and most used polybags to grow vegetables and fruits. Participants' perceptions of the use of their yards went well. This can be proven by the high perception of P2L participants. Of the 7 types of perceptions interviewed, 65 respondents had a high perception score category with an average score of 3.26, which means that P2L participant respondents had a good perception of the P2L program in Pontianak City. The conclusion of this study is that the P2L program in Pontianak City is effective in increasing the availability, accessibility, and use of home gardens as a sustainable food source. The active participation of the community in cultivating their home gardens is an important factor and has a positive impact on income and food sustainability.

Abstract

Marketing channels, marketing margins, efficiency and elasticity of marketing price transmission for white pepper in Sambas Regency will be the objectives of this research. Quantitative descriptive methods were used in this research. Non-probability sampling is a technique used with the purposive sampling method. Primary and secondary sources are the data used. Marketing margin analysis, marketing channel efficiency, and price transmission elasticity are some of the methods used. The results of this research show that there are two different marketing channels for white pepper in Sambas Regency: channel I directly from farmers to wholesalers then to final consumers, and channel II from farmers to collectors then to wholesalers then to final consumers. Channel I marketing efficiency is 0.46% and farmer's share is 97.56%, resulting in a marketing margin of IDR 2,000/kg. At the same time, marketing channel II achieved a marketing margin of Rp. 5,000/Kg, with a farmer's share of 93.90% and a marketing efficiency level of 0.83%. Marketing channel I is more efficient than marketing channel II. The elasticity value of price transmission in channel II is 0.663, which means that every 1% change in consumer prices will cause a change of less than 1% or 0.663% change in producer prices so it is inelastic. On the other hand, the collector level and producer level have an elasticity value of 0.632, meaning that a 1% change at the collector level results in a price change of 0.632% or less than 1% at the producer level (Inelastic). Thus, the influence of consumer prices is greater than collector prices.
