Abstract

Seagrass is the only flowering plant (Spermatophyta) that can adapt to aquatic environments and can live in saltwater media, function normally in submerged conditions, have a strong root system. Seagrass beds play an important role in the ecological structure of coastal areas. In its development, many seagrass areas have experienced disturbances or damage due to natural disturbances or human activities. The purpose of this study is to overcome damage to seagrass ecosystems, understand the optimal conditions that support growth (Enhalus acoroides), as information and reference material for carrying out rehabilitation activities in damaged seagrass conditions. Using the bamboo frame transplantation method, leaf marking method, and environmental parameter collection method. The results showed that the survival rate of Enhalus acoroides after 28 days was 40% at station 1 and 57% at station 2. The average growth rate of E. acoroides at station 1 reached 0.374 cm/day. At station 2, the markers on the leaves of E. acoroides were lost due to physical damage caused by strong currents. Environmental factors were identified as the main cause of the low survival rate and growth rate of E. acoroides.

Abstract

This study examines the determination of the fishing season to support fishermen's activities on the western coast of Makassar City through the analysis of zonal winds. Wind is a crucial meteorological element, influenced by its direction and speed. Coastal wind patterns differ from those in open seas due to the interaction between land and sea breezes. As Makassar City is located in a coastal area, many of its residents work as fishermen whose activities are significantly influenced by weather conditions. Weather information plays a critical role in ensuring optimal fishing outcomes and improving safety for fishermen before they venture to sea. This research was conducted on the western coast of Makassar City using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative analysis involved windrose diagrams to identify wind trends and bar charts to analyze rainfall patterns, while qualitative analysis employed questionnaires with 46 respondents. The findings indicate that zonal wind data from the study area cannot reliably determine the fishing season due to the local influence of land-sea wind interactions, which disrupt the monsoonal wind patterns. However, weather conditions were found to have a significant impact on fishing activities, with a Likert scale score of 89.86%, indicating a strong influence. Seasonal weather information enhances fishermen’s safety, guides the selection of fishing gear, and increases catch yields. Therefore, providing reliable seasonal weather information is essential for supporting fishing activities on the western coast of Makassar City.

Abstract

Daily prenatal care plays an essential role in maintaining maternal and fetal health and preventing pregnancy complications. However, its implementation remains suboptimal due to several influencing factors. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal age, education level, parity, and family support with daily prenatal care practices. A cross-sectional study was conducted from May to June 2024 at Berangas Public Health Center, involving 74 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test. The research study shows that the majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (86.5%), had education equivalent to senior high school or higher (56.8%), were in the at-risk parity group with 0, 1, and 3 live births (82.4%), and received adequate family support (82.4%). A total of 70.3% of respondents demonstrated good daily prenatal care practices. Significant positive correlations were found between age (ρ = 0.435, p < 0.001), education (ρ = 0.506, p < 0.001), and family support (ρ = 0.321, p = 0.005), while parity showed a significant negative correlation (ρ = –0.321, p = 0.005). These findings indicate that maternal education and family support are key factors influencing daily prenatal care behavior.
