Abstract

Background: Breast milk is the best nutrition for children, but many children in Indonesia do not receive exclusive breastfeeding. According to SSGI data, only 48.58% of babies in Bogor district are exclusively breastfed. This is due to various obstacles in the breastfeeding process, which can stem from both maternal and infant factors. If this situation continues, the child's nutritional needs may not be adequately met. Objective: To determine the most dominant factor in exclusive breastfeeding failure. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a random sample of 182 individuals in Bogor Regency. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Result: There was no significant association between exclusive breastfeeding failure and mothers having difficulty managing time between work and breastfeeding, difficulties in positioning the baby, or experiencing nipple blisters (p≤0.05). Additionally, no significant associations were found between exclusive breastfeeding failure and infants remaining fussy even after breastfeeding, mothers experiencing depression during initial breastfeeding, feeling embarrassed while breastfeeding, infants having difficulty breastfeeding, or mothers experiencing swollen breasts (p>0.05). Conclusion: Infants who remained fussy despite breastfeeding were found to be the most dominant factor contributing to exclusive breastfeeding failure, with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.308.

Abstract

Infants who are not exclusively breastfed often have the potential to experience implications for their future quality of life. Furthermore, the extent of this impact is influenced by the concerted efforts of both the father and mother in promoting and implementing exclusive breastfeeding. Several studies have also shown that father’s proactive support is an essential factor in its successful implementation. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between paternal control behavior and exclusive breastfeeding. A quantitative cross-sectional method was used and the sample population comprised 326 fathers with children aged < 2 years old. The procedures were carried out in the working area of the Situ Udik Health Center in July 2023. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin size formula, followed by the selection of 77 respondents based on the random sampling technique. The data obtained were then analyzed using the chi-square test to assess the association between the variables. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between father's knowledge (p=0.001), attitude (0.006), and trust (p=000.0) with exclusive breastfeeding. Meanwhile, breastfeeding fathers (0.339) and intention (0.341) had no significant influence. Based on these results, father played an essential role in providing support during this practice

Abstract

The use of contraceptives in couples of childbearing ages will have an impact on births, the more children are born, the more costs will be incurred to support children and will have an impact on children's health. Growth and development are two events that are different, but interrelated and difficult to separate. The Family Development Program for Toddlers and Children is one of the efforts to foster and increase family planning participation for families of toddlers in supporting the realization of a happy and prosperous small family. This study aims to analyze the effect of family participation in childcare and development and BKB in West Java Province. This type of research is an analytic survey with a cross-sectional research design. Respondents are parents or families who have children under five and preschool in the BKB group and taken by purposive sampling of as many as 2,803 and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The result variable number of ideal children <0.05 means there is a relationship with the physical growth of toddlers, while the variables of the use of contraceptives and mother's education> 0.05 means there is no relationship with the physical growth of toddlers. The use of contraceptives can indirectly affect the physical growth of toddlers because the use of contraceptives will minimize unwanted births and focus more on the growth and development of children who have been born.
