Abstract

This study addresses the challenges of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in diverse classrooms, emphasizing the need for materials that promote tolerance and inclusivity. It aims to fill a gap in existing curricula by developing reading materials that integrate tolerance dimensions, enhancing both language proficiency and socio-cultural understanding among EFL students. A mixed-methods approach was employed to provide practical insights and contribute to the theoretical framework of multicultural education in EFL contexts. The findings revealed that the experimental group, using the developed materials, achieved significantly higher scores (M = 85.6) compared to the control group (M = 78.2). An independent samples t-test confirmed a significant difference between the groups [t (84) = 20.777, p < 0.05], demonstrating the effectiveness of the materials in fostering student engagement and understanding of diverse perspectives. The study highlights the importance of incorporating both linguistic and social elements into teaching resources, promoting inclusivity and a supportive learning environment. The theoretical framework is grounded in Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC), emphasizing the role of cultural awareness and identity in language learning. The results suggest that integrating tolerance dimensions into reading materials can enhance learning outcomes for heterogeneous EFL students, aligning with prior studies showing the positive impact of culturally diverse materials on student interaction and language development.

Abstract

The study investigated the impacts of high, moderate, and low learning intensities on kinesthetic learners’ speaking performance in the Bachelor of English Literature program at Bumigora University. Using a quantitative research design, 42 kinesthetic learners were identified through a VARK questionnaire and a validated learning intensity questionnaire, categorizing them into three intensity groups. Speaking performance was assessed based on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, coherence, and task fulfillment. Data collection included administering both questionnaires and conducting speaking tests. One-Way ANOVA analysis revealed significant differences in speaking performance, with the high-intensity group achieving the highest mean score (91.38), followed by moderate (82.00) and low-intensity groups (70.21). The results confirmed these differences (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05), and Post-hoc analysis indicated that the high-intensity group significantly outperformed the moderate and low groups, with mean differences of 9.385 and 21.174, respectively (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). The moderate group also significantly surpassed the low group with a mean difference of 11.789 (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). These findings suggest pedagogical implications for developing instructional strategies to enhance EFL speaking performance among kinesthetic learners. Higher learning intensity significantly improves speaking performance, and further research could explore its effects on other learning styles such as auditory or visual.

Abstract

Lobster is an important marine product for the people living at the coastal area in Keruak. Lobster has a high economic value, but it has not been managed optimally. In the development of lobster, lobster farmers have experienced a decline in production over the last few years due to various factors, nemely almost all fishermen living at the coastal area in Keruak village who are not lobster farmers. Lobster is only a partial/seasonal business.  The coastal fishermen only have an ability to traditionally catch lobster seeds. However they do not have knowledge to cultivate lobster. Almost all lobster seeds caught at sea are sold to collectors so that the added value of this business is almost nothing. The community assistance program that was carried out by society service team in collaboration with local communities through a lobster cultivation in the coastal community tries to explain the problem. People can know and understand the types of lobsters that are suitable for cultivation in their area.s

Abstract

Despite increasing attention to the role of frequency in second and foreign language learning, prior studies have predominantly focused on its relationship with individual learner differences such as motivation, learning styles-strategies, and cultural awareness. However, there remains a notable gap in exploring how varying learning frequencies influence psychological factors, particularly learning resilience, and also the previous research has examined the effects of frequency on cognitive outcomes such as vocabulary and grammar learning or the correlations of listening frequency and speaking skills, few have addressed how distinct levels of learning frequency directly impact both learning resilience and speaking performance. Grounded in self-efficacy and resilience theory, the study aimed at investigating the extent to which differences in learning frequency contribute to variations in EFL students’ learning resilience and speaking performance. An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed, integrating a frequency classification questionnaire for learning frequency grouping, a learning resilience scale questionnaire, and an English-speaking performance test for 189 respondents, supplemented by semi-structured interviews for qualitative validation conducted with 36 respondents. All instruments were tested for validity and reliability. Findings indicate that high-frequency learners exhibit superior self-regulation and communicative competence (p=.000 >.05; ηp² = .877), suggests that 87.7% of the variance in resilience and performance was explained by learning frequency, representing an extremely large effect. High-frequency learners exhibited structured routines, adaptive strategies, and greater emotional and cognitive readiness, supporting stronger resilience and speaking performance. In contrast, low-frequency learners showed inconsistent habits, reactive behaviors, and heightened anxiety. Medium-frequency learners demonstrated moderate engagement, with fluctuating outcomes depending on study consistency.
