Abstract

Desa Lasori di Kecamatan Mawasangka Timur merupakan salah satu penghasil kelapa terbesar di wilayah tersebut. Namun, limbah batok kelapa yang dihasilkan dari produksi kopra sering kali hanya dimanfaatkan secara terbatas atau dibuang begitu saja, sehingga menimbulkan masalah lingkungan. Melalui program pengabdian ini, diberikan pelatihan kepada masyarakat setempat mengenai pemanfaatan limbah batok kelapa sebagai bahan baku pembuatan briket. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 25 peserta yang mengikuti tiga tahapan utama, yaitu pengeringan, penggilingan, dan pencetakan briket. Evaluasi yang dilakukan setelah pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa seluruh peserta (100%) telah memahami proses pembuatan briket dengan baik. Program ini tidak hanya berkontribusi pada pengelolaan limbah batok kelapa secara lebih produktif, tetapi juga membuka peluang ekonomi baru bagi masyarakat. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat Desa Lasori sekaligus mengurangi dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan.

Abstract

Desa baula merupakan desa tertua di kecamatan baula yang memiliki permasalahan sampah yang tidak pernah terselesaikan. Permasalahan sampah dapat mengganggu kehidupaan dalam bermasyarakat mulai dari lingkungan, ekosistem dan individu dari masyarakat itu sendiri. Sampah yng paling sulit terurai di alam adalah sampah anorganik. Sehingga salah satu pendekatan yang dapat dilakukan untuk menangani sampah di desa baula dengan memanfaatkan sampah plastik menjadi paving block. Pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyaraka ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi masalah sampah plastik yang semakin meningkat tiap hari dengan mengolah menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomi, yaitu paving block. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilakukan di desa baula dengan melibatkan masyarakat dan aparat desa setempat. Proses pembuatan paving block dari sampah plastik melibatkan beberapa tahap, mulai dari pengumpulan, pencucian, peleburan, hingga pencetakan. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa paving block dari sampah plastik memiliki kualitas yang baik dan dapat diaplikasikan sebagai bahan bangunan. Selain mengurangi volume sampah plastik, kegiatan ini juga diharapkan dapat memberdayakan masyarakat setempat melalui pelatihan pembuatan paving block dan membuka peluang usaha baru.

Abstract

Banyaknya limbah batok kelapa dan rendahnya nilai ekonomi buah kelapa sebagai salah satu sumber pendapatan masyarakat di Desa Lawekara, Kecamatan Rante, Kabupaten Kolaka Utara, Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara, mengaharuskan warga untuk mencari alternatif pendapatan tambahan seperti pengolahan limbah batok kelapa menjadi briket yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan sosialisasi dan edukasi mengenai pentingnya mencari bahan bakar alternatif bernilai ekonomis tinggi dan ramah lingkungan. Salah satu alternatif tersebut adalah dengan memanfaatkan limbah biomassa batok kelapa untuk dijadikan briket arang. Tujuan sosialisasi dan edukasi ini adalah agar masyarakat Desa Lawekara memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam membuat briket sebagai energi alternatif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi lokasi, identifikasi permasalahan, sosialisasi mengenai solusi permasalahan, demonstrasi pembuatan briket, dan pelatihan pembuatan briket kepada masyarakat. Melalui kegiatan ini, masyarakat mampu memperoleh banyak manfaat berupa pengetahuan, pemahaman dan teknologi yang diberikan sehingga mitra sasaran memiliki alternatif usaha selain usaha yang ditekuni selama ini, dengan tujuan agar menambah omset mitra sasaran, yaitu usaha pembuatan briket batok kelapa

Abstract

Empty fruit bunches (EFB), a substantial agricultural waste, offer great potential for value. This study aimed to use cellulose of EFB as a source of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is considerable because cellulose-based waste is categorized as the most abundant waste in nature and is easy to obtain. Cellulose was then converted to the CMC process in several steps, including cellulose alkalization, and carboxymethylation. The resulting CMC was characterized to determine its degree of substitution, viscosity, and other physicochemical properties. Characterization with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) verified the effect of NaOH concentration on this property. The highest degree of substitution (DS=1.34) was observed in 50 % NaOH of carboxymethylation. Cellulose can be correctly extracted from EFB and converted to CMC. Based on the cellulose of the EFB characteristic, the proper amount of NaOH was found to get a high DS. CMC has considerable features for application on biodegradable polymer materials.

Abstract

The community service program in Gumanano Village, Mawasangka Subdistrict, Central Buton Regency aims to empower the community through the utilization of coconut shell waste into economically valuable products in the form of briquettes. Gumanano Village has abundant coconut potential; however, coconut shell waste has generally not been optimally utilized and is often discarded or burned, providing no added value. Through this program, training was provided along with the introduction of appropriate technology, including a coconut shell carbonizer, charcoal crusher, mixer, and briquette molding machine. The community was equipped with skills covering the entire production process, starting from raw material selection, processing, molding, to product packaging. The results of the program showed an increase in community knowledge and skills in managing coconut shell waste into environmentally friendly and marketable briquettes. In addition, the availability of production equipment supports work efficiency and product quality, thereby increasing the potential of briquettes as an alternative energy source as well as a new business opportunity for the community. Thus, this program is expected to improve household income, reduce environmental pollution, and promote economic independence for the people of Gumanano Village.

Abstract

The community service activity in Gundu-Gundu Village was motivated by coastal environmental issues, such as waste accumulation, the absence of a final disposal site (TPA), and air pollution caused by open burning of waste. To address these challenges, the implementation team designed an innovation in the form of a low-smoke waste incinerator made from recycled materials. The stages of the activity included field surveys, tool design and fabrication, as well as participatory socialization and trials with the community. The results demonstrated that the device was effective in reducing waste volume and minimizing smoke emissions, thereby improving air quality and the cleanliness of the coastal environment. In addition, the community’s positive response reflected an increase in awareness and behavioral change toward more environmentally friendly waste management practices.

Abstract

The increase in activities within the school environment has led to a rise in the amount of waste generated each day. However, students’ awareness of waste segregation remains relatively low, which negatively affects the cleanliness and comfort of the school environment. The School Field Practice Program (PLP) at SMAN 1 Wolo implemented an initiative to provide separate waste bins for organic and inorganic waste as an effort to enhance students’ awareness and responsibility in waste management. The method used in this program involved direct observation to identify sanitation needs at several strategic locations within the school. Subsequently, waste bins were prepared and placed according to waste type. The results of the program indicate an improvement in students’ environmental awareness and a reduction in littering behavior. This program contributed to creating a cleaner, more orderly, and more comfortable school environment for all members of SMAN 1 Wolo.

Abstract

Chemistry is not merely a science that only studies theory in class. Chemistry learning requires practical or experimental activities to observe and directly apply chemical concepts during face-to-face meetings in class. Meanwhile, the unavailability of laboratory facilities is one of the factors in not carrying out chemistry practice. This causes students difficulties in understanding the concept of chemistry as a whole and can potentially reduce learning motivation. This public service activity aims to implement the Hyperchem software for teachers and students of SMA Negeri 1 Mawasangka Timur as an alternative solution for chemistry labs in the form of electronic labs. The chemical topics selected and considered suitable for this type of practice were the structure and properties of chemical compounds. This activity is carried out in the form of a workshop. Workshop materials use lectures, simulations, discussions, and question-and-answer models. The activity's results showed the workshop participants' enthusiasm to use the Hyperchem software as a chemistry lab media. This is reflected in the evaluation of the workshop implementation, which is carried out by assessing the response of the workshop participants based on indicators of relevance, the ability of the presenters, ease of use, availability, and usefulness of the Hyperchem software. The evaluation results show that the workshop and the implementation of the Hyperchem software as an electronic practice media for visualizing the structure and properties of chemical compounds received a positive response from the workshop participants.
