Abstract

The Damahu waxy corn (Zea mays L. var. Damahu) is a local variety traditionally cultivated by the Gorontalo community and possesses significant potential for the development of functional food products. This study aimed to determine the nutritional composition of the Damahu waxy corn variety originating from Bontula Village, Asparaga District, Gorontalo Regency, through proximate analysis. The corn samples were dried, milled, and analyzed using standard analytical procedures to quantify moisture, ash, fat, protein, and carbohydrate contents. The results indicated that Damahu waxy corn flour contained 83.32% carbohydrates, 5.93% protein, 1.67% fat, 8.84% moisture, and 0.24% ash. This composition characterizes the Damahu variety as a good energy source. However, its protein content does not yet meet the minimum requirement set by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for corn-based processed products. The nutritional profile highlights the potential of Damahu waxy corn for the development of nutritious and competitive local food products. This study provides an initial contribution to the documentation of Gorontalo’s indigenous corn varieties and offers a scientific foundation for the utilization of local germplasm to strengthen regional food security.

Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is included in the Sterculiaceae family and is a plantation crop originating from South America and is currently widely planted in the tropics. Cocoa is used in parts of the fruit such as fruit skin, pulp and seeds. . Cocoa is a strategic Indonesian export commodity that generates foreign exchange, but it is undeniable that its industry is still hampered so that it imports cocoa in finished products. Activities in the development of cocoa carried out in Bontula Village involve monoculture farming communities. The development of cocoa plants in Bontula Village is a plant that is the result of vegetative propagation, namely by grafting techniques. The activity begins with education in the introduction of cocoa types and then planting is carried out on community plantation land which is a demonstration plot. This activity shows good results in terms of community awareness in planting cocoa and maintaining plants so that it has a high percentage of the percentage of cocoa plant life.

Abstract

Perintis lake is a significant aquatic area with considerable potential as a habitat for various bird species, as it is surrounded by forest and agricultural areas that support a diverse avifauna. This research aimed to determine the diversity and conservation status of waterbird species in the perintis lake area. The research employed survery method by determining observations stations and  following the water flow river transect along the lake using a boat while recording all birds seen or heard. The results identified several waterbird species, including the Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), Cerulean Kingfisher (Alcedo coerulescens), White-browed Crake (Porzana cinerea), Javan Pond Heron (Butorides striata javanica), Barred Rail (Gallirallus torquatus) and Javan Pond Heron (Ardeola speciosa). The conclusions are as follows : (1) The waterbird diversity index (H’) at perintis lake ranged from 1.365 to 1.912, which falls into the moderate category, indicating that the waterbird community in thus lake is fairly diverse; (2) The evennes index (E) ranged from 0.378 to 0.526, indicating that the distribution of individuals among species is relatively stable

This research is descriptive qualitative using survey method with phytoplankton as research subject. The data collection technique was carried out by purposive sampling which was carried out 3 times with the aim of collecting data effectively. The research procedure includes observation, measurement of water physico-chemical parameters, phytoplankton water sampling, and identification in the laboratory. Data analysis was carried out descriptively by identifying the types of phytoplankton using a binocular microscope and matched to the identification book. The results of the research obtained found phytoplankton 8 divisions with 24 species (Synura sp., Pandorina morum, Ankistrodesmus densus, Tetraedron triangulare, Selenastrum bibraianum, Scenedesmus sp., Tetrabaena socialis, Dictysphaerium ehrenbergianum, Raphidiopsis raciborskii, Snowella lacustris, Merismopedia sp...), Aphanocapsa sp., Pinnularia sp., Cyclotella polymorpha, Synedra sp., Pseudostaurastrum lobulatum, Isthmochloron lobulatum, Goniochloris sp., Penium polymorphum, Staurastum gracile, Aulacoseira granulata, Cochlodinium polykrikoides, Ostreopsis sp., and Prorocentrum minimum).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity and abundance of kingfisher species in the Marisa watershed, Karangetang Village. The method employed was Point Count, which involved 5 counting points, each 200 meters apart, with a viewing distance of 50 meters and observation time of 20 minutes. The study identified 4 kingfisher species from the Alcedinidae family, two of which are endemic (Ceyx fallax, Pelargopsis melanorhyncha) and two non-endemic (Alcedo meninting, Todirhamphus chloris) in the forest edge area point count 1,2 with diversity index H' = 3,00 (high) and point count  3, 4 and 5 community farmland area with diversity index H' = 3,26 (high). Among the four species, the most dominant was C. fallax (Di = 38,77%), T. chloris (Di = 36,73%), Alcedo meninting (Di = 22,45%), and Pelargopsis melanorhyncha (Di = 2,04%), indicating a moderate dominance in abundance.
