Abstract

The application of peer counseling through the Change Agent extracurricular program in increasing assertiveness among bullying victims at SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. The background of this research is based on the rising cases of bullying in school environments, which negatively impact students' mental health and social development. The method used is a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consists of 30 students identified as bullying victims, divided into experimental and control groups. The results show that the assertiveness level of students before the implementation of peer counseling was in the low category; however, after the intervention, there was a significant increase in the experimental group. Hypothesis testing using a t-test revealed a significance value (p < 0.05), indicating that peer counseling effectively enhances students' assertiveness. This study concludes that the implementation of peer counseling in the Change Agent extracurricular program can be an effective alternative to address bullying issues and improve students' self-confidence in schools. It is hoped that the findings of this research can contribute to the development of guidance and counseling programs in schools and raise awareness of the importance of assertiveness among students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of implementing self-management techniques on student learning discipline at SMAN 13 Makassar. The background of this research lies in the importance of learning discipline for academic success and how self-management techniques can serve as an effective tool to cultivate discipline. The research method used is a quasi-experiment with two groups: an experimental group receiving self-management intervention and a control group. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and then analyzed descriptively and statistically using t-tests. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students’ learning discipline after implementing self-management techniques. Before the intervention, 60% of students were in the low discipline category and 40% in the high category. After applying self-management techniques, 70% of students fell into the high discipline category. A p-value of < 0.05 indicates a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. These findings are supported by observations and interviews showing that self-management techniques enhance student participation, time management, and learning motivation. In conclusion, self-management techniques are effective in improving learning discipline and should be integrated into school counseling programs.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling using the indirect modeling technique based on short films to increase awareness of the risks of early marriage among adolescents. The research method used is quantitative with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were junior high school students who showed low awareness regarding the negative impacts of early marriage. The intervention was conducted through several group counseling sessions, where students were shown short films containing moral messages and real-life situations that reflect the adverse effects of early marriage. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests to determine the significance of change before and after the intervention. The findings indicate a significant increase in students’ awareness after participating in the group counseling. The use of short films in indirect modeling proved effective in helping students develop empathy, better understand the long-term risks of early marriage, and reflect on their own values and decisions. This study concludes that the implementation of group counseling with short-film-based indirect modeling techniques is an effective alternative approach to increase adolescents’ awareness about the risks of early marriage. The results have implications for guidance and counseling services in schools as a preventive measure to reduce the trend of early marriage among teenagers.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid, reliable, and practical Google Form-based Personality Typology Instrument for students at SMP Negeri 3 Mapilli. The background of this study is based on the results of a needs analysis that shows the limitations of personality assessment instruments in schools and the low level of students' understanding of their personality types and learning styles. These conditions have an impact on students' difficulty in understanding lesson material and low level of learning independence. Therefore, a personality assessment instrument that is easy to use, efficient, and suitable for the characteristics of students in the digital era is needed. This study uses the research and development method. The development procedure includes the stages of needs analysis, planning, prototype instrument development, validation by subject matter experts and media experts, product revision, and practical testing. The test subjects involved students and homeroom teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Mapilli. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and observation sheets, then analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively. The results showed that the developed instrument had an excellent level of validity, with an average expert validation percentage of 85 percent, placing it in the highly valid category. The practicality test showed high results, with an achievement percentage between 80 and 99 percent, which falls into the practical to highly practical category. These findings indicate that the instrument is easy to use and accepted by users. Thus, the Google Form-based Personality Typology Instrument is declared suitable for use as a student personality assessment tool to support more effective, adaptive, and individual-oriented learning.

Abstract

Coping skills are essential abilities that help students manage various academic challenges throughout their university studies. Considering the increasing academic demands, assignment pressures, and diverse problems encountered by students in higher education, understanding the level of students' coping skills has become an important area of investigation. This study aims to describe the coping skills of Guidance and Counseling students in dealing with academic challenges. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 239 active students from the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Makassar State University. The instrument used was a coping skills scale that has been translated and adapted into the Indonesian language. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The instrument demonstrated acceptable construct validity through item-total correlation analysis (r ≥ 0.30) and showed high reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.85, indicating that the instrument was appropriate for use in this study. The findings revealed that most students were categorized as having high and moderate levels of coping skills, indicating their ability to manage academic pressure and challenges adaptively. These findings emphasize the importance of academic and psychological support in higher education to assist students in strengthening their coping abilities when facing academic demands. Furthermore, the results provide a basis for developing campus-based interventions focused on enhancing coping skills, managing academic stress, and improving student resilience.

Abstract

The low self-regulation ability among vocational high school (SMK) students is a fundamental problem affecting learning effectiveness and career readiness. This study aims to develop a mindfulness e-book as a guidance media to improve students' self-regulation, encompassing needs analysis, prototype development, validity testing, and practicality testing. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, conducted at SMK Negeri 3 Makassar involving a number of students in the analysis phase, several expert validators, one school counselor, and a small group of students in the trial phase. Analysis results revealed that the majority of students had low self-regulation, with primary issues identified in the aspects of impulse control and goal setting. The e-book was developed across five chapters based on mindfulness aspects with proportional exercise distribution aligned to empirical needs analysis findings. Validity assessments by content and media experts yielded a highly valid category, while practicality evaluations by both the school counselor and students were entirely categorized as highly practical. The e-book is proven to meet quality standards as a valid and practical mindfulness intervention media for counseling and guidance services in vocational schools.
