Abstract

The availability of information related to the pattern of connectivity between coral reef is one of the key in coral reef conservation management. The identification of pattern of connectivity in the form of dispersion dynamics of coral larvae is very important as the development of coral reef itself is highly depended upon the external input, which this input must be accordingly managed in order to support the continuity of coral larvae supply. This research’s objectives are including to create the coral larvae dispersal model of Marine Protected Area (MPA) of Kapoposang. For instance, the modelling of coral larvae dispersal had been conducted using the biophysics modelling which combined the biological and physics factor in order to obtain the recruitment scenario and the traces of larvae dispersal. This simulation used coral larvae object with the Pelagic Larval Duration (PLD) for 30 days, the larvae release was conducted during the full moon and during the west and east monsoon. The result of the larvae dispersion model has indicated that the coral larvae dispersion process was influenced by the currents and variation of monsoons. Based coral connectivity pattern on Kapoposang found site Gondongbali, Kapoposang2, Suranti and Pamanggangang as a source. Then other location as sink by received larvae from other site are Gondongbali, Kapoposang, Pamanggangang, Taka Karangkarangang, Taka Pallawangang and Taka Palekko. Abstract

Bali Sardinella (Sardinella lemuru Bleeker, 1853) was the main catch for fishermen around the Bali Strait waters. The unwell management of the catch effort and the unavailable of allowable catch size were suspected as the factors which made this fish became rare to find in Bali Strait nowadays. In addition, environmental factors were also thought to play a role, for example, the availability of food. This study aimed to reveal the food and feeding habit of Bali Sardinella in Bali Strait waters and their connectivity to the availability of natural food in nature. This study was held for 13 months, from May 2017-May 2018 in three areas of the Bali Strait waters, namely Pengambengan, Pekutatan, and Yeh Leh. Organisms found in the digestive tract of fish were identified until the genera level. The method used for feeding habit was the Important of Relative Index (IRI). Meanwhile, for determining the electivity of the food using the Index of Electivity. Based on the IPR, the food organisms with the highest value were Cyanophyceae (Trichodesmium) and Bacillariophyceae (Nitzshia and Chaetoceros). The main food varied depending on the season and fish size. Bali Sardinella were planktivorous and chose their food. Plankton which is abundant in the waters was not always found in large quantities in the digestive tract.

Abstract

Mineral mining (i.e. gold) activities in the land and coastal boundaries of West Sumbawa district are expected to increase the content of heavy metals in the marine and coastal waters surrounding. A residual of mining processing produce heavy metals disposal. In this study, the distributions of heavy metals (i.e. Hg, Cr6+, Cu, As, Ni, Zn, Pb, and Cd) were measured in the water column and bed sediments of coastal waters of West Sumbawa. This study was conducted during dry season in July 2011. The results showed the heavy metal concentrations in water column were below the threshold level stipulated by the Minister Decree No. 51/2004, except for Cu. The heavy metal contents in bed sediment were low and varied among sampling points excepting for Cu content which was remarkably high (101,7 mg/Kg).

Abstract

Solid waste disposed from land that enters the oceans through rivers that do not go through TPA and TPS facilities, is not officially managed, resulting in an uncontrolled and unmanaged. Efforts to reduce the volume of waste in several places are closely related to community behavior, an effort to raise awareness and increase understanding is needed to encourage behavioral change that is carried out in stages, either through promotion or dissemination or continuous campaigning. This study aims to determine the decisions of residents who live on the edge of the Ciadane river regarding their daily habit of disposing of garbage. The method used is a survey to the research location and data collection through interviews with a questionnaire guide. Questionnaires will be deployed to represent settlements around the river and villages that are traversed by the cisadane river. The research sample was taken randomly / representing residents who lived on the riverbank as many as 120 respondents to represent the upstream, middle and downstream areas. Identifying factors that influence the decision to dispose of waste into the river were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression. The results of the ordinal logistic regression test showed partial simultaneous selection of TPS availability factors, TPS conditions, the role of community leaders and the impact of river waste showed a significant positive effect on the factors that influence the behavior of throwing garbage into the Cisadane river.
