Abstract

This article is a historical study that discusses Abdul Haris Nasution from a political perspective. This research explores Abdul Haris Nasution's career journey and his contributions to the Indonesian military and politics from 1955 to 1959. This study uses historical methods with steps, namely heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The historical sources used are primary sources, including the Chiefs Staff of mandate in the Republic of Indonesia, Instructions of the Central Warlord, The Mimbar Indonesia, and Nasution's writing books. Secondary sources from the results of previous research, which became the basis of Nasution's thought on the military and politics, such as Abdul Haris Nasution's role in the "Bandung Lautan Api" incident in 1945–1946 and Abdul Haris Nasution's role in the liberation of West Irian, 1957–1962. The results of this research show that Nasution's career in the military field was very bright, starting with joining the Reserve Officers Corps (CORO). On October 17, 1952, Nasution resigned from the Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) position and returned to active service in the military in 1955. Nasution contributed to the military field in 1955–1959 to formulate ideal civil-military relations in Indonesia and the "middle way" army concept. Nasution's contribution to the political field in 1955–1959 re-implemented the 1945 Constitution. Nasution encouraged President Soekarno to issue a presidential decree as the beginning of guided democracy.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the democratization process carried out by Indonesia Raya Newspaper through the political discourse raised and its role as a political public space in 1955-1957. The research method used is the historical method, which consists of 5 stages, namely topic selection, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This research is supported by the theoretical framework of political public space to examine the role of Indonesia Raya Newspaper in raising political discourse and its function as a political public space. The results of this study show that (1) Indonesia Raya Newspaper practices personal journalism in its journalistic work so that the characteristics of the political discourse contained in its news are in line with the characteristics of its leader, Mochtar Lubis. (2) The role of Indonesia Raya Newspaper as a political public space is carried out by loading political discourse containing criticism of the government and politicians related to the social, political, and economic life of the community, which is published in the political section of Tajuk Rencana. (3) The process of forming political discourse is carried out using the investigative journalism method so that relevant topics are obtained. Topics found, such as indications of fraud in the 1955 elections and the controversy over the implementation of the KAA, were raised to become political discourses that affected the dynamics of Indonesian national politics at that time. Indonesia Raya Newspaper was able to play a role in Indonesia's democratization process by raising political discourse and providing political public space.

Abstract

The Lingga Yoni Indihiang site in Tasikmalaya is a cultural remnant of the Hindu-Buddhist period that has high historical, spiritual, and archaeological value. Based on the results of excavations and carbon tests, the site is estimated to date back to the 7th century AD. This research is motivated by a number of problems, including the threat of environmental exploitation due to sand and asphalt mining activities adjacent to the site, the problem of access to land controlled by the private sector, and the low use of the site as a medium for learning history. These problems are exacerbated by the lack of publications, the lack of supporting facilities, ownership conflicts, and differences in religious views of the surrounding community. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through field observations, interviews with stakeholders (site managers, surrounding communities, and related agencies), and documentation studies of relevant literature and archives. The research location focuses on the Lingga Yoni site area in the Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City. The results of the discussion show that although there have been physical preservation measures, such as the installation of fences, these efforts have not addressed the structural challenges faced by the site. A participatory-based preservation strategy is needed that involves the active role of the community, educational institutions, and the government collaboratively. The conclusion of this study emphasises the importance of integrated site management so that Lingga Yoni Indihiang can function optimally as a protected cultural heritage as well as a means of education and local identity of Tasikmalaya. encouraging students to think critically and gain a deeper understanding of history.
