Abstract

Banana trees are included in the Musaceae family, which are herbaceous plants that bear fruit in the tropics. Banana stems are divided into two types, namely true stems and pseudo stems. Most of this banana tree fiber waste is wasted without any initiative from the community to be reprocessed. Natural fiber reinforced composites have the following advantages: light weight, corrosion resistance, water resistance and attractive performance. The aim is to use natural fibers as an alternative material to replace fiber composite materials with banana tree fibers which are more environmentally friendly. Processing of banana tree fiber is washing with water, drying with the help of sunlight for 7 days, and taking fiber manually by cutting it into smaller sizes. Banana trees have a water content composition of 10-15%. Dried banana tree fiber was chemically treated with 10%, 20%, 30% NaOH and ethanol solutions with variations in soaking time of 2, 4, 6 hours, and drying at room temperature. The single fiber test specimen refers to ASTM D 3379 standard. Keywords: Banana tree fiber, composite, fiber tensile strength, specimen

Abstract

The PPNS (Surabaya State Shipbuilding Polytechnic) Test Pool is a pool used to test the feasibility of various kinds of works that have been made by PPNS students. Due to the increase in human activities that occur, it can cause various kinds of problems, one of which is water pollution. Heavy metals are declared as very dangerous pollutants because of their non-degradable nature (Damaianto & Masduqi, 2014). Heavy metals in the waters are actually also needed by aquatic biota in the metabolic process but in small doses, one of which is heavy metal copper (Cu) which will pollute if the levels are excessive in the waters. Therefore, this research was conducted to analyse the content of heavy metal copper (Cu) as a benchmark and parameter and compare the concentration of Cu with the maximum level in the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2021. Analysis of copper (Cu) heavy metal content was carried out by uv-vis spectrophotometric method using 25% ammonia additives and 1% Na - diethyldithiocarbomate. The standard solution and samples that have received the treatment are continued with absorbance and concentration measurements using a spectrophotometer. Based on the results of the study, the average level of heavy metal copper (Cu) contained in the PPNS Test Pool sample water is 1.70 mg/l. Where Cu heavy metal pollution is very high and does not meet the quality standards in Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2021 with the maximum level of copper heavy metal (Cu) is 0.02 mg/l. Keywords: Heavy metal coper (Cu), spectrophotometry, water pollution, PPNS test pool

Abstract

Every activity carried out will produce waste, this results in high generation in Indonesia. The amount of waste generated needs to be processed in order to reduce the number of pollutions to the environment. Waste treatment basically uses the 3R principle, namely reduce, reuse, and recycle. One way of processing organic waste is by recycling it into compost. The composting process can occur naturally in the open, but the composting process will decompose more quickly if microorganisms are added to it. In this study, the composting process used black fly larvae or commonly called black soldier fly (BSF) larvae to simplify and speed up the process of decomposing organic waste into compost. The purpose of this study is to determine the quality of organic waste fertilizer produced from composting using BSF larvae. Composting organic waste using BSF was carried out for 15 days in a reactor box. A total of 5000 grams of composted organic waste produces 550 grams of compost with a reduced percentage of 11%. The resulting compost has a characteristic blackish brown color, smell and texture resembling soil, temperature 29°C, pH 5.5, water content contained in the compost is 11% and C content in the compost is 55.21%. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the characteristics of compost produced from composting using BSF larvae for pH and C content parameters do not meet the quality standards for compost from organic waste in SNI 19-7030-2004 concerning Specifications for compost from domestic organic waste. Keywords: BSF, organic waste, compost.

Abstract

The PPNS (Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic) electrical engineering laboratory is a laboratory used by practitioners or students to carry out college learning activities that are closely related to electricity. Activities carried out by practitioners will of course expend energy which can later result in fatigue and even dehydration, so it is necessary to conduct an analysis of exposure to the work climate in the practicum area. The definition of work climate according to Davis (2002:21) says that work climate is defined as the human environment in which workers or organizations do work and its existence is something that cannot be touched or seen but is there. Therefore, this research was conducted to create comfortable conditions or atmosphere for practitioners to carry out learning activities in the PPNS electrical machine laboratory. A comfortable work environment can increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of work and reduce occupational diseases (NAB).

Abstract

The increase in population in Indonesia is directly proportional to existing economic activities. The main need that every human needs is food, so many food industries continue to develop. One of these industries is the tofu making industry. Many of these industries result in several problems such as unpleasant odors from waste and damage to the water ecosystem in rivers. On the other hand, the use of water hyacinth is still lacking, even though if used optimally it can be used as an ecosystem controller in water. Therefore, researchers made an innovation by using water hyacinth as a pH neutralizer and odor remover in tofu dregs liquid waste. This research method is an experiment using data from journals and the internet. Data processing is descriptive in the form of data results that are compared with materials used every day.

Abstract

Fire is an event that is often sudden and can cause major losses, both in terms of property and life. Fires can occur in various places, from residential homes, office buildings, to forests and open land. So a safety system is needed that can provide assistance as quickly as possible for dangerous situations that occur at any time. Apart from that, the safety system must be designed as well as possible so that when an emergency occurs it can be used according to its function and provide maximum assistance. To minimize the risk of fire, it is necessary to have a fire protection safety system that is available in a planned manner, especially one that is installed and absolutely must be observed. Therefore, what needs to be done is to create a light fire prevention system using light fire extinguishers in every building in the Company. The method used in this research is systematic steps by obtaining data obtained from the internet, journals and existing regulations. The results of this research are in the form of calculations and placement of APARs in one building.

Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country where many of the crops grown can be utilized. In everyday life, one of the main human needs is food. So, to fulfill their needs, humans need to consume food, one of which is fruit. There are many benefits for the human body's vitamin needs. However, sometimes many people think that there are some parts of the fruit that cannot be used. Usually this part is the skin, even though if it is innovated the fruit skin still has a lot of content that can be utilized. Therefore, researchers use waste from fruit peels to be used as liquid organic fertilizer. The research method used is experimentation with data obtained from digital, scientific journals and the internet. The results obtained are organic fertilizers whose quality is compared with fertilizers on the market by testing the quality and temperature of organic fertilizers

Abstract

Biomass is a potential energy source and can be developed as an alternative energy source as a substitute for fossil fuels. Biomass can be converted into briquettes or charcoal which can be used as an energy source, such as for the drying process in processing crumb rubber and smoked sit. Biomass charcoal briquettes or biobriquettes are made from biomass charcoal, either in the form of parts that are intentionally used as raw material for briquettes or leftovers or waste from agro-industrial production/processing processes. For example, wood, coconut shells, palm shell charcoal, bamboo waste, corn cobs, rice husks and tobacco stem waste can be raw materials for biobriquettes. Apart from that, waste from the crumb rubber industry in the form of chips can also be used as biobriquettes. Biobriquette manufacturing technology is widely available. Making biobriquettes requires supporting materials such as clay, starch glue, water and other mixing materials. The composition of these materials really depends on the type of raw material for making biobriquettes. Before making biobriquettes, biomass must first be converted into charcoal, then the charcoal is crushed, mixed and molded into various briquette shapes such as cylinders, cubes and eggs. From several research results, in general the calorific value produced from biobriquettes is not significantly different compared to coal briquettes. Therefore, biobriquettes can be used as fuel for the natural rubber drying process.

Abstract

The increasing need for electricity for the community and the cost constraints for using fossil energy, require innovation in creating electricity sources using hydropower (PLTA). To increase the efficiency and stability of the output wave, a converter is installed in this circuit which can produce an output voltage that is lower or higher than the input voltage by using a PWM switch duty cycle. By installing a converter in a hydropower generating circuit, of course it cannot accommodate very large amounts of voltage due to the limited specifications of the components used. The Buck-Boost circuit used must use accurate mathematical calculations and must be simulated first to prevent and minimize the occurrence of errors and undesirable things.
