Abstract

Background and purpose: Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) in 2012 showed neonatal mortality rate (AKN) in Indonesia amounted to 19/1000 live births. The causes were respiratory distress or asphyxia (35.9%), premature delivery, low birth weight (32.4%) and sepsis (12%). Neonatal asphyxia in the last 5 years at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar relatively stagnant namely: 2010 (8.6%), 2011 (9.3%), 2012 (11.6%), 2013 (8.3%), and 2014 (11.3%). This study aims to identify risk factors of mothers and infants to neonatal asphyxia. Methods: The study design was a case control with a sample of 172 infants of 86 cases and 86 controls were selected randomly from the birth register at Sanglah Hospital in 2015 and matched by age of gestation. Cases were neonatal (0-28 days) born with asphyxia, while control were neonatal without asphyxia. Data analysis was performed using univariate, bivariate (chi square test) and multivariate using logistic regression. Results: The study finding showed that significant risk factors which increased the incidence of neonatal asphyxia were nuchal cord with adjusted OR (AOR)=6.55 (95% CI: 2.34 to 18.33); anemia during pregnancy with AOR=6.49 (95% CI: 2.21 to 19.03); prolonged labor with AOR=6.27 (95% CI: 1.37 to 28.70), low birth weight with AOR=3.85 (95% CI: 1.61 to 9.18); maternal age <20 years and >35 years with AOR=3.57 (95% CI: 1.48 to 8.61) and hypertension during pregnancy with AOR=2.40 (95% CI: 1.06 to 5.44). Conclusion: Mathernal and infant factors that increased risk of neonatal asphyxia were nuchal cord, anemia during pregnancy, prolonged labor, low birth weight, maternal age <20 years and >35 years and hypertension during pregnancy.

Abstract

Introduction: People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) have higher risk to acquire complications from oral manifestation and oral-sistemic opportunistic infection compared to healthy individuals. Data regarding knowledge, attitude, and behaviour on oral health is of great importance in effort to design a specific programme for PLWHA so as to ensure the well-being and quality of life of PLWHA. Objective of this study is to obtain the description of the knowledge, attitude, and behaviour on oral health among PLWHA in Bali Peduli Foundation. Method: A non-experimental, descriptive observational study was performed on 75 PLWHA samples in Bali Peduli Foundation using questionnaire to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and behaviour on oral health. Data obtained was then analysed in a descriptive manner and presented in cross-tabulation tables and narrations. Result: It was found in this study that most of PLWHA in Bali Peduli Foundation has an excellent score of knowledge (64%), attitude (79%), and behaviour (52%) on oral health. Despite further analysis and interpretation of responses from the samples of the overall quantitative score were excellent, PLWHA in Bali Peduli Foundation still have several tendencies such as: a) inadequate awareness towards risk of diseases and actual health condition of themselves, b) lack of attention and priority towards oral health, and c) procrastinating treatment or check-up. Conclusion: Regardless of the overall excellent result from the quantitative score, it is still necessary to enforce promotion and education to PLWHA regarding ill-well perception, low-risk behaviour, and the importance of prompt treatment to prevent further complications and bacteremia.

Abstract

The outbreak of the coronavirus has had an impact on people's lives. COVID-19 not only has an impact on health but also on the economy, education, social and security. A lot of COVID-19 hoax information circulating on social media can confuse the public (infodemic). Infodemic leads to excessive information related to COVID-19 that can interfere with finding solutions and not necessarily valid information content. This study aims to determine the relationship between exposure to COVID-19 infodemic and compliance with the application of health protocols in Udayana University Medical Faculty students. This research is a quantitative analytic study with a cross sectional study approach which obtained 236 respondents. Based on the results of the study, most of the women (70.34%), reside in Denpasar (33.90%), the PSSKPD study program (38.56%) and the 2019 batch (53.81%). In addition, respondents also access information well through social media (94.07%), have a positive attitude in receiving COVID-19 information (69.92%), have a positive perception of COVID-19 information (67.37%) so that respondents were not exposed to COVID-19 hoaxes (58.47%) and respondents were obedient in implementing health procedures (75%). In this study, gender characteristics had a relationship with health care adherence (p=0.002). Likewise, access to information (p=0.026) and perception of COVID-19 information (p=0.045) had a relationship with health care compliance. Therefore, it is expected to use FK's social media to provide positive information, especially regarding COVID-19 and urge students to follow all FK's social media. Abstract

Background and purpose: COVID-19 pandemic has a major impact on the health care system, including nurses. The rapid increase in the number of patients, lack of knowledge of the disease, and the high risk of being exposed to the virus, are some challenges faced by nurses in hospitals. During this situation, nurses need to build resilience to provide good services for patients as well as to protect themselves from COVID-19 infection. This study aims to explore resilience of the emergency room (ER) nurses at Sanglah Hospital Denpasar during the early stage of COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted in the ER of Sanglah Hospital Denpasar, from October to November 2020. Data were collected through in-depth interviews that involved six nurses. The information collected include nurses' experiences in dealing with pandemics, nurses' knowledge about COVID-19, challenges and obstacles to nursing services during the COVID-19 outbreak, efforts to protect themselves, family and closest relatives, as well as management responses regarding the protection of health workers, especially among nurses. Data were analyzed by Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and presented narratively. Results: Nurses have the internal strength to deal with increased workloads and working conditions that were considered difficult during the pandemic situation. Nurses’ resilience is also formed by external supports such as from co-working partners, family, and organizations. The challenges and obstacles faced in maintaining resilience are the implementation of services, amidst the uncertainty of the status of COVID-19 patients and the stigma among health workers, as they were suspected as virus carriers. Efforts to strengthen resilience are conducted by increasing capacity, taking care of oneself, and setting work schedules. Conclusion: The resilience of nurses consists of the resilience to face increased workloads and difficult working conditions during a pandemic. This resilience comes from internal and external strengths such as friends and organizations. In difficult situations, nurses are still able to think of concrete steps to protect themselves and their families. However, challenges and obstacles need to be overcome to improve the quality of patient care during a pandemic.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the number of Covid-19 cases in pregnant women is 3.9% and the prevalence of morbidity and mortality of pregnant women with Covid-19 is still unknown. However, several studies have shown that pregnant women may be very susceptible to Covid-19 infection so that it does little to cause fear and anxiety in pregnant women. Perceptions and behaviors of pregnant women need to be explored to see how health behavior is in making decisions for ANC visits. This study uses a qualitative method with an exploratory approach. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 12 pregnant women. The informants were pregnant women in Tabanan Regency who experienced an increase in the number of ANC visits at the Puskesmas. Data collection was carried out during January-February 2021. The data were analyzed thematically and presented using a narrative approach. Knowledge of pregnant women about the benefits of ANC and how to spread Covid-19 plays a very important role in the attitude of pregnant women in carrying out ANC. Adaptations in the application of health protocols continue to be carried out, this is because they feel vulnerable to being exposed to Covid-19. The feeling of fear and anxiety they felt did not stop them from doing ANC during the pandemic. The perception of severity is felt because of the experience of previous pregnancies, but the support and motivation makes pregnant women feel more able to avoid feelings of anxiety. ANC behavior of pregnant women can be seen in the selection of ANC locations that are felt to be safe and not crowded, such as Puskesmas and midwives. This study reveals that the anxiety of pregnant women during the Covid-10 pandemic can lead to levels of depression and anxiety if left untreated. There is a need for psychosocial support and information through online media for pregnant women during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: perception, pregnant women, ANC, Covid-19
