Abstract

One of the few countries with high humidity levels, it can cause poor air quality and an increase in diseases such as dengue fever. Dengue fever is a disease caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Due to the large number of cases of dengue fever, various types of drugs have emerged to treat this condition. Predator, genetics, pathogen and parasite control, as well as physical, biological and chemical control are several ways to control larvae. Efforts to control mosquitoes can be made by using mosquito repellent repellents by using plants that come from nature which contain essential oils as environmentally friendly repellents. One of the plants that contain essential oils is soursop leaves and ylang-ylang flowers. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of soursop leaves and ylang-ylang flowers as larvicides to eradicate mosquito larvae. This research is experimental in nature with the samples used, namely Culex type mosquito larvae. This research was conducted at the Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The samples for this study were 28 containers with an initial number of larvae of 25 individuals. The results showed that there were several mosquito larvae that experienced death with the lowest mortality in F1D1 with an average of 20 deaths and the highest mortality in F3D3 with an average of 23.67 deaths. Mosquito larvae experienced death with the highest time at 9 hours of observation and the time of death decreased at 12 hours of observation. The use of larvicidal extracts from soursop leaves and ylang ylang flowers is more effective in reducing the number of mosquito larvae with F3 having the highest average number of deaths with a dose of 2.5 g of soursop leaves: 7.5 ylang ylang flowers within 9 hours.

Abstract

Penggunaan hand sanitizer untuk menjaga kebersihan tangan sangat penting untuk menghindari berbagai penyakit akibat infeksi oleh bakteri pathogen. Sediaan hand sanitizer seperti alkohol dan triklosan sangat berbahaya jika digunakan secara terus-menerus. Buah dan kulit nanas memiliki senyawa antibakteri yang dapat dijadikan sebagai sediaan hand sanitizer. Tujuan dari literature review ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi senyawa antibakteri daging buah dan kulit nanas sebagai hand sanitizer alami. Metode studi literatur ini dibuat dengan menganalisis artikel-artikel hasil penelitian yang dipublikasi pada tahun 2016 sampai 2020. Data didapat dengan menggunakan kata kunci pada beberapa search engine Google Scholar, PubMed, dan Garuda. Hasil studi literatur ini didapatkan sebanyak 14 artikel yang sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Hasil analisis review artikel menunjukkan bahwa buah dan kulit nanas memiliki senyawa metabolit sekunder berupa flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, steroid dan terpenoid serta bromelain sebagai zat antimikroba. Ekstrak buah dan kulit nanas dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri gram positif dan gram negatif yaitu, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella thypii, Xanthomonus, Bacillus subtilis, Azotobacter, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio cholera dan K. pneumoniae. Kesimpulan menunjukkan bahwa kulit nanas lebih potensial dijadikan sebagai sediaan sediaan hand sanitizer alami dibandingkan dengan daging buahnya karena memiliki senyawa antibakteri yang kuat terhadap bakteri pathogen dan memiliki pH yang baik untuk kulit.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of carrot tuber and red ginger rhizome addition on the acceptability and shelf life of sponge cake enriched with tofu dregs. The research used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in a factorial pattern consisting of two factors. The first factor was carrot addition (20%, 30%, and 40%), and the second factor was red ginger addition (9%, 10%, and 12%). Organoleptic evaluation included color, aroma, taste, texture, and crumb structure assessed by panelists. Shelf life observation was conducted at room temperature. The results showed that the best treatment based on overall acceptability was 20% carrot and 12% red ginger (W1J3). This treatment produced a bright color, distinctive aroma, balanced taste, soft texture, and fine crumb structure. Shelf life analysis indicated that the W1J3 treatment had the longest storage period, lasting up to 6 days at room temperature. The addition of carrot and red ginger significantly influenced both acceptability and shelf life. It can be concluded that the incorporation of 20% carrot and 12% red ginger improves the sensory quality and extends the shelf life of tofu dregs sponge cake.
