Abstract

The purpose of this study to develop TPACK-based LKPD using PBL model to see the extent to which the use of LKPD and practicum can improve student learning outcomes on hydrocarbon materials. The research method used is Research & Development (R & D) with 4D models (define, design, develop and desseminate) with a limited trial. On liveworksheet assisted e-LKPD conducted feasibility validation test and praktiklaitas test by 2 teachers chemistry and 27 learners. The result is an interactive e-LKPD with almost the same characteristics as the printed LKPD, based on everyday phenomena and equipped with video shows. Based on expert validation, the percentage of material aspects, learning, e-LKPD validation, and e-LKPD validation by education practitioners were 97.9%, 100℅, 95% and 81.25%, respectively. The percentage of student response in the field trial was 93.22% with problem solving skills of 86.92%.Keywords: Hydrocarbons, Worksheet Learners, Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge, Problem Based Learning Model.DOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13.i3.32146

Abstract

Sansevieria (Sansevieria trifasciata) fibers and water hyacinth (Eichhornia Crassipes) fibers as natural fiber producers with good quality have good potential to be developed. This study aims to examine the production and characteristics of composites made from sansevieria fiber and water hyacinth fiber with a polyester matrix through the employment of the hand lay up method. This composite uses variations in the composition of the fiber mixture by soaking 5% NaOH for 2 hours at room temperature, for the resulting composite material. The resulting composite material is then subjected to a bending test to determine its mechanical properties, utilizing the ASTM D638 test standard. Based on the conducted research, the most favorable outcomes in terms of bending test results and modulus of elasticity are observed with a 10% incorporation of sansevieria fiber, yielding an average of 5.520 MPa for bending test and an elastic modulus of 7.444 MPa. Alternatively, when combining both fibers, the optimal mixture consists of 20% sansevieria fiber and 20% eceng gondok fiber, resulting in an average bending test value of 7.503 MPa and a modulus of elasticity of 7.873 MPa.

Abstract

Tobacco smoking is known to have adverse health effects, including an increased risk of cancer , cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory disorders. These health risks are largely attributed to the presence of toxic compounds in tobacco smoke, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and cyanide, both of which are carcinogenic. One potential method to mitigate these harmful effects is by using adsorbent materials, such as polyurethane foam, as smoke filters. This study aims to: (1) analyze the characteristics of polyurethane foam modified with aluminum metal, (2) evaluate the adsorption capability of the material against carcinogenic compounds in cigarette smoke using GC-MS analysis, and (3) determine the optimal adsorbent composition for maximum foam performance. Material characterization was conducted using FTIR to identify functional groups, swelling degree tests to assess water absorption capacity, SEM-EDX to examine surface morphology and aluminum distribution, and GC-MS to identify the carcinogenic compounds adsorbed. FTIR analysis revealed the presence of N-H, C-H, C=O, and C-C functional groups in the polyurethane structure. The swelling degree test showed a positive result, indicating good water absorption ability. SEM-EDX analysis demonstrated that aluminum particles were successfully distributed within the foam’s pores, resulting in smaller pore sizes. Furthermore, GC-MS results confirmed the adsorption of several carcinogenic compounds, including pyridine, eugenol, and benzenamine. These findings suggest that aluminum-modified polyurethane foam has the potential to serve as an effective filtering material to reduce exposure to toxic compounds in tobacco smoke.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive e-module based on green chemistry in the reaction rate material to improve learning outcomes and foster students' interest in learning. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which in this study was limited to the Develop stage. The research subjects consisted of 2 lecturers, 1 chemistry teacher, and 32 students from from the Grade XI Science A-1 class at State Islamic Senior High School 1 Medan (MAN 1 Medan), selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included test instruments (pretest and posttest questions) and non-test instruments (validation questionnaires and student learning interest questionnaires). Based on expert validation, the interactive e-module was declared highly feasible with an overall average score of 82.00%. In the trial phase, the e-module showed an improvement in student learning outcomes with an N-gain score of 0.69, categorized as moderate, and student interest in learning reached 74%, also falling into the moderate category. Abstract

This study examines the electrical properties of fermented pineapple and lime extracts subjected to Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4) fermentation and thermal treatment at varying temperatures. The fermentation process was conducted over a period of six days, with temperature conditions set at 30°C and 70°C. The results indicate that the lime extract generated higher voltage and current outputs compared to the pineapple extract, particularly on the sixth day of fermentation. Furthermore, the thermal treatment revealed a more pronounced electrical response in lime extract, as evidenced by a greater increase in current at elevated temperatures. These findings suggest that lime extract, when combined with EM4 fermentation and optimal thermal conditions, exhibits greater potential for application in alternative bioelectric energy generation.
