Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of liquid organic waste formula made from Bacillus sp to suppress the severity of vascular streak dieback (VSD) disease in cocoa plants.  The research was conducted on smallholder cocoa plantations in Patimbe Village, Palolo Subdistrict, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.  The research was arranged in a non-factorial Randomised Group Design (RAK) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments consisted of control (P0=no formula); coconut water + Bacillus sp (P1); rice washing water + Bacillus sp (P2); tofu water + Bacillus sp (P3); and a combination of coconut water, rice washing water, and tofu water + Bacillus sp (P4). Each experimental unit consisted of 10 cocoa plants infected with VSD disease.  The liquid organic waste formula was applied using the root infusion technique in months 1 and 3 at a dose of 250 ml/root. Observations of disease symptoms, disease development, disease severity, and disease suppression efficacy were conducted monthly. The results showed that the combination of organic waste of coconut water, tofu water, and rice washing water with Bacillus sp active ingredient was more effective in suppressing VSD disease than liquid organic waste alone with an effectiveness rate of 81.7%.

Abstract

Colletotrichum capsici merupakan patogen penyakit antraknosa pada tanaman cabai yang sulit untuk dikendalikan. Penggunaan pestisida kimiawi pada budidaya cabai dapat meninggalkan residu yang membahayakan bagi kesehatan konsumen. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengurangi penggunaan pestisida kimiawi dan beralih ke metode budidaya yang lebih aman, seperti penggunaan pestisida nabati dari rimpang lengkuas dan jahe. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan jenis rimpang yang lebih efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Colletotrichum capsici pada cabai merah secara in vitro. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Watunonju, Kecamatan Sigi Kota, Kabupaten Sigi, Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah untuk pengambilan spesimen dan proses isolasi dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Tadulako. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 7 perlakuan, menggunakan dua jenis ekstrak berupa Ekstrak Rimpang Lengkuas (ERL) dan Ekstrak Rimpang Jahe (ERJ) yaitu 0% (Kontrol), 10% ERL, 10% ERJ, 15% ERL, 15% ERJ, ERL 10% : ERJ 15%, ERL 15% : ERJ 10% dan diulang sebanyak 4 kali. Variabel pengamatan pada penelitian ini yaitu diameter koloni, laju pertumbuhan, dan daya hambat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan tunggal ERJ 15% terbukti efektif menghambat pertumbuhan Colletotrichum capsici dibandingkan ERL 15%, dengan rata-rata diameter koloni 2,96 cm, laju pertumbuhan 0,30 cm/hari, dan daya hambat sebesar 62,20% pada 7 Hari Setelah Inokulasi (HSI). Perlakuan campuran ERL 10% : ERJ 15% lebih efektif dibandingkan perlakuan ERL 15% : ERJ 10% dengan rata-rata diameter koloni 2,21 cm, laju pertumbuhan 0,25 cm/hari, dan daya hambat 72,22% pada 7 Hari Setelah Inokulasi (HSI).

Abstract

Banggai Kepulauan Regency has substantial natural, coastal, marine, karst, and tourism potential; however, these potentials are accompanied by environmental vulnerability, disaster risk, and limited community understanding of sustainable spatial planning and ecotourism management. This community service activity aimed to improve public literacy regarding sustainable ecotourism, environmental conservation, and the integration of Strategic Environmental Assessment principles into the Regional Spatial Plan of Banggai Kepulauan Regency. The activity was carried out through a participatory approach involving socialization, discussion, document review, and community-based assistance. The materials focused on the importance of protecting water resources, conserving lakes and karst ecosystems, managing waste in tourism areas, and strengthening community participation in environmentally sound spatial planning. The results showed that the activity helped participants understand the relationship between spatial planning, disaster mitigation, environmental carrying capacity, and sustainable tourism development. Community members became more aware that tourism development should not only pursue economic benefits but also consider ecological protection and social sustainability. The discussion also revealed the need for continuous assistance, clearer information on tourism management, and stronger collaboration between local government, communities, and other stakeholders. This activity indicates that environmental education based on Strategic Environmental Assessment documents can be an effective approach to strengthening community awareness and supporting sustainable development in island regions.
