Abstract

Reading is a crucial skill that should be learned from an early age, as it plays a vital role in daily life. While most children can easily learn to read, some struggle with the process. Therefore, effective learning media are needed to support children's reading development. This study develops and evaluates an educational game to assist young children in learning to read. Unlike previous studies, the game integrates multiple interactive modes that reinforce word recognition, spelling, and sentence construction through auditory and visual cues. The game features a simple user interface, a collection of 100 open vocabulary words, and three gameplay modes designed to support different aspects of early reading skills. The game's effectiveness was assessed through an experiment involving 12 kindergarten students, divided into a game-playing and a non-game-playing group. The findings indicate that the educational game can enhance kindergarten students' reading skills. Moreover, the game increases students' enthusiasm and motivation for learning to read. However, further improvements, such as additional features and platform expansion, are necessary to make the game more accessible to a broader audience.

Abstract

VAF is a photo frame production company operating in the creative economy sector in Batam, Indonesia. VAF faced declining demand, leading to increased production costs and decreased productivity. After the post-pandemic drop in demand, VAF struggled with inefficiencies, rising costs, and labor constraints. This study applies the Theory of Constraints to diagnose production bottlenecks, quantify inefficiencies, and propose cost-saving strategies. In this quantitative descriptive study, the five steps of TOC and the application of Drum-Buffer-Rope and Buffer Management are implemented to enhance production cost efficiency and productivity. The analysis found that constraints stemmed from limited and unskilled labor, causing machines to operate suboptimally and delaying product delivery when demand fluctuated. Consequently, 84% of production time is allocated to value-added activities, while 16% is spent on non-value-added activities (material preparation and packing), which must be reduced to enhance operational efficiency. VAF achieved cost savings of 2.61% in 2022 and 2.19% in 2023 by minimizing non-value-added activities. Return on Investment in 2022 improved from -1.7% to -1.3%; in 2023, it rose from 3.3% to 4.1%. Total productivity increased by 2.80% in 2022 and 2.61% in 2023. Overall, TOC implementation successfully enhanced VAF’s production cost efficiency and productivity.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of U.S. Quantitative Easing (QE), Interest Rate Spread, and Control of Corruption on Short-Term Debt in developing Asian countries. Using panel data from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and China from 2000 to 2022, the analysis employs a Random Effect Model (REM) approach. The findings reveal that U.S. QE has a positive and significant impact, indicating that increased global liquidity encourages short-term borrowing in these economies. Conversely, Interest Rate Spread negatively affects short-term debt, suggesting that higher spreads reduce reliance on external short-term financing. Additionally, stronger Control of Corruption is associated with lower short-term debt levels, highlighting the role of governance in reducing financial vulnerabilities. These results underscore the importance of maintaining prudent monetary and fiscal policies to manage external debt risks. Policymakers should strengthen governance frameworks, ensure balanced interest rate policies, and develop strategies to mitigate risks from external financial shocks. By improving institutional quality and promoting long-term financing stability, developing Asian economies can enhance financial resilience and reduce excessive reliance on volatile short-term debt.

Abstract

With the history of earthquakes that occurred in Central Borneo Province, it is very necessary to plan earthquake resistant building structures, especially in the implementation of reinforced concrete building structures. Earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete structure planning is carried out using a Special Moment Resisting Frame System with the object of research being the Integrated Lecture Building of the University of Palangka Raya. In planning earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete structures, the requirements described in SNI 2847-2019 are required. The results of the planning of structural components for the structure of the Palangka Raya University Integrated Lecture Building, namely the structural components under review, used 30/60 beam dimensions and 60/60 column dimensions. In the 30/60 beam design, the left bearing reinforcement is 6D25 tension-8D29 pressed, the field reinforcement is 4D25 tension-2D29 pressed, the right support reinforcement is 5D25 tension-4D29+4D25 pressed, and the left/right joint shear reinforcement 2 legs ∅12–120 mm for the plastic hinge area and 2 legs ∅12–150 mm for the area outside the plastic hinge. On the planning of the 60/60 column obtained longitudinal reinforcement 24D25 and reinforcement in the plastic hinge 4 legs ∅12–100 mm, outside the plastic hinge 4 legs ∅10–150 mm, and in the lap joints 4 legs ∅12–100 mm. On examination the requirements for strong column-weak beam based on SNI 2847-2019 have been fulfilled. So that the planning of the Special Moment Resisting Frame System in increasing the resistance of the building to the possibility of large earthquake forces is appropriate and safe.

Abstract

The 1 MVA transformer at UIN Suska Riau has experienced severe load imbalance, resulting in significant power losses, excessive neutral current, and reduced efficiency that accelerates insulation degradation and shortens its service life. Unlike previous studies that mainly focused on static phase balancing or software-based estimations, this research introduces a real-time load balancing strategy using Fuzzy Logic and projects power loss costs over 10 years. Real-time current measurements were collected over eight consecutive days under peak load conditions and processed through a MATLAB-based Fuzzy Logic system employing triangular membership functions and expert-defined inference rules. The research methodology includes load balancing, calculation of power losses and operational costs, and a comparison of pre- and post-balancing conditions. The results indicate a 95.58% reduction in load imbalance and more than 90% decrease in power losses. Furthermore, the 10-year projection analysis shows long-term operational cost savings of up to 99.65%, while the method also contributes to extending transformer lifetime by preventing overheating and insulation deterioration. The proposed approach enables utilities to mitigate neutral current, reduce energy losses, and lower operating costs across distribution networks.
