Abstract

Purpose – The Indonesian government had a chronic disease management program, PROLANIS, targeted for diabetes and hypertension since 2010 to prevent chronic disease patients from severe complications through monitoring and control measures. The purpose of this community service was to improve the health status of diabetic patients who participate in PROLANIS in Sukodadi and Sukolilo Villages, Lamongan Regency, through analysis of blood glucose levels. Design/methodology/approach – To overcome the problems previously mentioned, community service has been proposed. This service includes educating participants about metabolic syndrome and health checks. The main aim of this educational program is to increase public awareness about diabetes mellitus. The blood examination aims to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in these villages. This educational program involves direct mentoring and outreach methods, such as the creation of booklets, educational videos, and PPTs. Findings and Discussions – In Sukodadi and Sukolilo Villages, community service was organized as a response to the high prevalence of diabetes mellitus. The program included blood tests and educational sessions for participants enrolled in the PROLANIS initiative. Analysis of the data revealed that the average blood sugar level of the participants was 143.1 mg/dl, slightly above the normal blood sugar level tolerance limit of 140 mg/dl. Nevertheless, the results indicate that the blood sugar levels of the participants can be effectively managed and kept below the diabetes tolerance threshold of <200 mg/dl. Originality/value – Our community services in Sukodadi and Sukolilo Village, Lamongan Regency, showed that most elderly women with diabetes mellitus are retired. As people age, their risk of high blood glucose levels increases. Despite the average glucose level of PROLANIS participants being higher than normal, it can still be controlled. Our findings can guide the government to organize diabetes management programs and help service providers carry out prevention measures.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women were reported to face a disproportionately high death rate, reaching nearly 25% of the global pregnant population. According to data from POGI (Indonesian Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology) as of April 2021, 536 pregnant women in Indonesia were exposed to COVID-19 resulting in 16 deaths. This implies an estimated mortality rate of 32 per 1000. Family with pregnant women experience more worries about the COVID-19 infection, which reduces resilience capacity. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the impact of certain factors including husband education, profession, family size, and wealth, as well as the presence of pregnant women on the resilience of family in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional design and analytical observational method were used, while the samples comprised 100 households selected using g-form and accidental sampling. In addition, the data collected were analyzed with the chi-square test. The results showed that family income OR = 2.46 (95% CI = 1.08 - 5.61; p-value = 0.03) and the presence of pregnant women OR = 5.40 (95% CI = 2.25 - 12.96; p-value 0.01) had a significant relationship with family resilience. Specifically, low family resilience was related to lower income and the presence of pregnant women in the household.

Abstract

Adolescence is characterized by active sexual hormones that can lead to sexual urges with the opposite sex. These urges, in turn, may trigger risky sexual behavior. College students, in a transitional period from adolescence to early adulthood, exhibit diversity in addressing sexual activity. This research aimed to analyze the risks associated with adolescent sexual activity in a college in Surabaya, Indonesia. The study utilizes a cross-sectional design with accidental sampling of active students aged 18-24 years. The total number of participants in this study was 221 people who filled out a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form, distributed through social media. The results show that, among all the factors identified, dating status has a significant relationship with PR 11.688 (95%CI 5.048-27.061) in engaging in risky sexual activities among adolescents. Reproductive health education at the university level is needed to reduce risky sexual activities among students.

Abstract

Introduction: The impact of the pandemic on adolescents' lives showed that 55.1% stress and 40% anxiety due to online learning along with an increase in teenage pregnancy. Aims: To determine the predictive index of risk variables for teen pregnancy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic's online learning period. Methods: This type of research is analytic observational utilizing a case-control design. Using simple random sampling, the case sample was 40 pregnant adolescents and 80 non-pregnant controls for the Indonesian Regency of Ngawi from July 2021 until January 2022. Once each variable was significant, multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed (p < 0.05) as predictors of teenage pregnancy. Results: The findings revealed that the variables as indicators of the risk of teenage pregnancy were courtship behavior, access to reproductive health media, and parenting. The predictive index of teen pregnancy risk factors was (-7.248 + 3.833 x low risk dating + 7.726 x severe risk dating + 2.773 x access 1 media + 2.773 x access 2/more media + 3.871 x authoritarian and permissive parenting). The high probability of teenage pregnancy with an opportunity value above 0.5 is in adolescents with dating behavior or parenting patterns that show the highest risk, namely high-risk dating behavior or adolescents with authoritarian and permissive parenting patterns. Conclusion: It is hoped that this index can be considered and used as a measuring tool in assisting in reproductive health programs, in screening adolescents so that it can be known early on that adolescents have an increased risk of pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is facing a mental health crisis, with 1 in 10 people experiencing mental disorders. Among the 282,654 households with individuals suffering from severe mental disorders, only 0.6% are receiving treatment, and just 0.5% are regularly taking medication. In Surabaya, 0.19% of the population is identified as People with Mental Disorders (PMD). Objective: This study aims to evaluate the achievement of the Minimum Service Standards (MSS) Policy for Mental Health on PMD in Surabaya in 2023. Methods: This research utilized a cross-sectional design and descriptive analysis to analyze data. Secondary data was gathered from a cohort of PMD services within the Surabaya Health Service Working Area in 2023, involving a total sample of 5,766 PMD individuals. Results: In 2023, the MSS for People with Mental Disorders achieved 100.3%, surpassing previous years and meeting the target of 100%. However, that achievement was not consistent across all health centers in Surabaya. About 48% of community health centres did not meet the MSS target. This shortfall is attributed to the presence of specialized social institutions for mental health cases and the absence of mental health post activities in certain areas. Conclusion: The implementation of the Mental Health MSS for PMD in Surabaya in 2023 met the Ministry of Health's target, achieving 103.33%. The trend from 2020 to 2023 shows a continuous increase in MSS implementation, though the distribution of achievements is uneven across community health centers. Out of 63 health centers, 30 (48%) have not yet reached the 2023 MSS.
