Abstract

Background: Teens undergo significant physical, emotional, and social changes that increase their vulnerability to mental health issues. I-NAMHS reports that one in three adolescents aged 10–17 experience mental health problems. Despite efforts, reaching and engaging adolescents remains challenging. Edutainment offers an innovative approach to promoting adolescent mental health. However, its effectiveness and application across digital platforms are still limited and require further research. Objective: This study aims to analyze research trends on edutainment as a tool for education and mental health promotion among adolescents. Methods: Using bibliometric analysis, we mapped research trends related to edutainment in mental health promotion. Data were collected from Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed, then analyzed with VOSviewer. Results: Analyzing 141 articles published between 2019 and 2021, we observed a significant increase in research on edutainment and mental health. Seven main clusters emerged, with social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) being the largest, followed by film, music, and K-pop culture. Mental health apps and video games are more specific but less prominent topics. Conclusion: Social media dominates edutainment research for mental health promotion, with film and music also prominent. Video games and mental health apps have a smaller scope but remain relevant. Overall, edutainment continues to grow as an effective approach, with social media playing a key role in recent trends.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that is still a health problem with the highest number of deaths in the infectious disease group which ranks second after Covid-19. Sidoarjo Regency with its tuberculosis cases, always ranks third for the most contributors to issues in East Java during 2019-2021. Objectives: This study aims to provide an overview of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Recency from 2019 to 2021 based on epidemiological approach (person, place, and time). Methods: A descriptive study was conducted by time series in certain time intervals. This study provided an overview of Tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency in 2019-2021 based on Sidoarjo Regency health profiles and other supporting data that has been published by the related institution. The variables studied included gender, place based on sub-district area, population density, and time. Results: The result showed that the number of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency during 2019-2021 has increased, except in 2021. Reports of the number of cases have decreased in line with several studies that show the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred in early 2020. Cases reported are predominantly male, which is influenced by factors such as differences in lifestyle and behavior. The high number of human immunodeficiency virus cases in Sidoarjo increased susceptibility to tuberculosis infection due to a weaker immune system condition compared to people with good health. Based on the density of the local area, Waru and Taman sub-districts are the most densely populated areas with the most tuberculosis cases compared to other sub-districts in Sidoarjo Regency. Conclusion: The overview of tuberculosis cases in Sidoarjo Regency during 2019-2021 experienced an up-and-down trend. Some of the reasons that support this incident include gender differences, different conditions of vulnerability, location, population density, influence of health services, and the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Background: According to the 2022 data, 21.6% of Indonesian children under the age of five suffer from stunting, which is still below the 2024 RPJMN target. Pamekasan is one of the priority regency for stunting in Indonesia. Birth anthropometry, such as birth length and weight, are some of the risk factors for stunting. Hence, it is essential to conduct research at the village level to examine these risk factors and continue to reduce the stunting incidence in the future. Objectives: This study aim to analyze the association between birth anthropometry (birth length and weight) and stunting. Methods: This study was an analytic observational study using a case-control approach. The research was carried out in Tentenan Barat Village, Pamekasan Regency, Madura, East Java Province. The type of data in this research was secondary data obtained from ePPBGM data at Larangan Community Health Center in February 2023. The number of samples used in this study was 54 (18 cases and 36 controls). Analysis of the relationship between dependent and independent variables using the Fisher Exact test. Results: Birth weight was not correlated with stunting (p-value = 0.107). Birth length was related to stunting (p-value = 0.012; OR = 8.5; 95% CI= 1.506 < OR < 47.962). Conclusion: Birth length was birth anthropometry that associated with stunting in this study. It is necessary to fulfill nutritional intake and provide health care for mothers, especially during pregnancy, to prevent children from being born with low body weight and short length.

Abstract

Background: Diphtheria is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheria, which commonly affects body part such as the tonsils pharynx, larynx and nose. Mobility and population density are one of the risks of diphtheria transmission in humans who play a major role as a reservoir of diphtheria bacteria. The number of diphtheria cases in East Java Province in 2022 increased by 1.46 times compared to 2021. The death rate from diphtheria also increased by 0.21 times in 2022 compared to 2021. The number of PD3I (Penyakit yang Dapat Dicegah dengan Imunisasi) case findings will indirectly illustrate the condition of immunization coverage received by the community as an effort to form herd immunity. Objectives: To spatially analyze the distribution of diphtheria cases associated with immunization coverage by district/city in East Java in 2023. Methods: A descriptive analytic approach was conducted through a spatial analysis model that explores data from a spatial perspective. Statistical analysis was also conducted to support the hypothesis of a relationship between the variables studied. Measurement of the strength of the relationship was carried out using the Spearman correlation test (α=0.05) to correlate the immunization coverage variable with diphtheria cases. Results: From the mapping results, it is known that Situbondo district has the lowest immunization coverage (78%) and Bondowoso district has the highest immunization coverage (115%). Statistical tests showed no association between immunization coverage and diphtheria suspects, cases, and findings (p-value > 0,05). Conclusions: The test results showed that there was no association between the two variables. Evaluation and monitoring of immunization implementation focusing on vaccine quality and activation of epidemiological investigation surveillance in East Java Province need to be done to optimize herd immunity in the community.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is an increasing global health concern, including particularly among adults in community settings. At this stage of life, unhealthy lifestyle habits such as low physical activity and high intake of salty or processed foods directly increase the risk of early hypertension. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship of age, physical activity, diet, and smoking habits with the incidence of hypertension in Plosojenar Village, Ponorogo. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic design with a case-control method involving 154 respondents, consisting of 77 individuals with hypertension and 77 individuals in the control group. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires, then analyzed using the chi-square test. The physical activity questionnaire included three items related to exercise, daily physical movement, and routine activities. The dietary pattern questionnaire included seven items related to high-fat foods, fried foods, fast food, instant food, salted foods, fruit intake, and coffee consumption. Results: The study showed that age above 45 years (p-value 2.2E-16, OR 71.191710) and lack of physical activity (p-value 3.8E-03, OR 15.73508) was significantly associated with hypertension. Dietary patterns also showed a significant effect (p-value 1.8E-02), although with a more moderate strength of association. In contrast, smoking habits did not show a significant relationship with the incidence of hypertension (p-value 6.2E-01). Conclusions: Age and physical activity are the main risk factors for hypertension in Plosojenar Village. Therefore, public health interventions should focus on prevention through promoting physical activity and improving diet. With 77 cases of hypertension, including one adolescent case, early prevention efforts and risk management in vulnerable groups are necessary to reduce the future prevalence of hypertension.

Abstract

Purpose: Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly among children under five, as it is linked to impaired growth and developmental outcomes. This study aimed to describe the distribution of maternal and child characteristics according to stunting status in a primary health care setting. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among children under 5 years of age (0–59 months) using systematic random sampling (n = 110). Data were collected through structured interviews with mothers and supplemented by health center records. Stunting status was determined using height-for-age z-scores from the 2020 Primary Health Care Center report, in accordance with standard child growth monitoring practices. A bivariate analysis using the chi-square test was conducted to examine crude associations between maternal and child characteristics and stunting. Results: Stunting was more common among children whose mothers had lower nutritional knowledge, lower educational attainment, and shorter maternal height. A higher proportion of stunting was also observed among children with a history of infectious diseases and those with limited access to health services. Maternal nutritional knowledge, maternal education, maternal height, history of infectious diseases, and access to health services were statistically associated with stunting (p < 0.05), while household income was not (p = 0.094). Conclusion: Several maternal and child characteristics were statistically associated with stunting at the bivariate level. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening maternal education, nutrition counseling, infection prevention, and access to primary health care services. However, the results should be interpreted cautiously as they reflect crude associations rather than independent effects.
