Abstract

History shows the long process of apple plants originating from subtropical regions adapting to Indonesia's tropical climate until its popularity is increasingly marginalized and replaced with other commodities, as evidenced by the decreasing land area, especially in Batu City. Indonesia. In developing and analyzing solutions based on the principles of sustainable development, an integrated and holistic approach is required. To understand problems and find solutions, we can use Systems dynamics. The purpose of this study is to obtain a policy scenario that encourages sustainable apple farming. Data is collected from the local government and BPS City or Province so that the selected variables follow the specific location. The system approach is used to identify needs, problem formulation, preparation of input-output diagrams, cause-effect diagrams and stock-flow diagrams. A series of scenarios is created and tested through simulation to understand the system's dynamic behavior better and obtain the desired output. The best scenario was chosen, namely by replanting 10% of old plant each year, using integrated agriculture with 3 female and 1 male brooders, reduction of land change with 50% success, Local economic development by integrating tourist ticket and hotels with 0,75 kg apple fruits also increasing health support for students

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between sustainable competitiveness and community empowerment in the context of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by conducting a systematic literature review using the PRISMA guidelines. The review identified relevant studies published between 2021 and 2025 in the Scopus database and analyzed them using the VOS Viewer bibliometrics tool. This study explores the role of empowerment in improving Sustainable Competitiveness. Findings show that the topics of sustainable competitiveness and community empowerment are still rarely discussed in an integrated manner, although both are significantly interrelated. The analysis identified six main dimensions that contribute to sustainable competitiveness in SMEs: Economic, Social, Environmental, Technological, Organizational, and Human Resources that correlate with sustainable competitiveness in SMEs. In various literature, sustainable competitiveness in SMEs is often discussed and has a close relationship with the use of technology in SMEs businesses. However, on the other hand, it also needs to be supported by the role of the community, which is included in the social dimension, which also plays an important role in SMEs that support business sustainability, foster cooperation networks, and improve the welfare of local communities. These findings provide a basis for insight and information to develop targeted business strategies and public policies aimed at enhancing sustainable competitiveness in SMEs through community engagement.

Abstract

Access to food is a human right. The destruction of paddy fields due to changes in use in various regions in Indonesia affects the national food supply. The contribution of domestic rice is decreasing, and the dependence on imported rice is increasing. In the long term, this phenomenon will threaten efforts to fulfil the adequacy of the staple food rice for the growing population, thereby increasing the potential for a food crisis. This study analyses the decline in domestic rice sufficiency due to the destruction of paddy fields in Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province. The method used in this study is mixed, consisting of visual image interpretation, map overlay, and descriptive quantitative analysis. The results showed that the average rate of destruction of paddy fields in Banyumas Regency from 2007 to 2019 was 102.6 hectares per year, concentrated around Purwokerto District, which is the capital of Banyumas Regency . The potential loss of rice production is 1,189,580 kilograms per year of harvested dry grain, equivalent to IDR 5,709,984,000.00.

Abstract

Abstract. Narendra BH, Widiatmaka, Kusmana C, Karlinasari L, Machfud. 2019. Multi-dimensional rapid appraisal technique for evaluating the sustainability of energy plantation forests in East Lombok District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 1027-1033. The increased use of woody biomass as a renewable energy source should be supported by development of sustainable energy plantation forest. This study aims to evaluate the sustainability status of energy plantation forest in East Lombok District and to determine the leverage attributes affecting sustainability. The evaluation was carried out using rapid appraisal approach, consisting of multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) analysis to provide sustainability indices for ecological, economic and social dimensions, followed by Monte Carlo simulation to define the validity. Dominant attributes affecting the sustainability were assessed by sensitivity analysis. All analyses were executed using the R software. The evaluation of eight locations generally results in a quite sustainable status for ecological, social, and economic dimensions with the validity index values of 72.73%, 61.07%, and 58.49%, respectively. To maintain or enhance sustainability, some leverage attributes need to be prioritized for policy intervention. In the ecological dimension, increasing species diversity using some potential energy woody species should be prioritized. In the social dimension, optimizing the role and capability of forest farmer groups and their members is needed, while for the economic dimension, government should support the expanding area of energy plantation forest managed by each farmer.

Abstract

Hibiscus cannabinus L. emerged as a promising natural fiber crop in Indonesia, offering significant value-added potential across its biomass components—bast, stem core, leaves, and seeds. This study presented a comprehensive value-added analysis along the upstream and midstream supply chain networks of the kenaf agroindustry. The research specifically focused on optimizing the upstream supply chain by evaluating the economic contribution of each biomass component and identifying opportunities for full biomass utilization. The Input-Output method from Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) was applied, along with a sensitivity analysis on market pricing scenarios. The results revealed that, for each hectare of cultivation, optimized utilization of kenaf components yielded an added value of IDR31,357,322 in the upstream network and IDR130,309,594 in the midstream traditional textile production. Notably, the incorporation of stem core (KCC and KCP), seed oil, and fermented leaf-based animal feed contributed to a 21.67% increase in upstream added value, alongside a 17.65% rise in farmers’ income. These findings demonstrated the potential for upstream supply chain optimization through low-tech, full biomass processing, supported Indonesia’s competitiveness as a global kenaf supplier, and highlighted the need for institutional frameworks to enable scale-up and sustainability.
