Abstract

More than two years have lasted since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. The case of Covid-19 in Indonesia has spread to all provinces and areas such as Bengkulu City. This study aims to determine the profile of clinical manifestations and antibody dynamics in Covid-19 patients in Bengkulu City. This study used a cohort design on Covid-19 patients at two Bengkulu City referral hospitals, M. Yunus Hospital and Harapan dan Doa Hospital. Data on clinical manifestations were obtained from the medical records of Covid-19 patients. Meanwhile, to determine the level of IgM and IgG antibodies, patient serum samples were taken directly from respondents from the beginning of hospital admission three times on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks. Then the samples were examined by immunofluorescent assay method. The results of this study indicate that, in general, there are no significant differences in anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels in Covid-19 patients in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks of Covid-19 in Bengkulu City. The Spearman correlation test also showed no correlation between IgG levels and the clinical manifestations of Covid-19. Although not statistically significant, there was a trend towards differences in antibody levels in patients with mild, moderate and severe clinical manifestations. The results of this study indicate that there are variations in antibody dynamics in Covid-19 patients in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Dengue virus infection (DENV) circulates in various hyperendemic and endemic areas that has increase mortality year by year. Indonesia is the second-largest country which is endemic to dengue infection between 30 other countries in the world. There are four circulating dengue virus (DENV) serotypes, namely DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Each serotype shows a different clinical manifestation and severity. This systematic review aims to compare the severity of dengue virus primary infection and  serotype 1,2,3,and 4. Data were collected based on studies of the severity of primary infections caused by various DENV serotypes in Indonesia. Data was searched using a database in the form of Pubmed and Chocrane. The keywords used are (Primary dengue infection OR dengue primary infection) AND (serotype OR serogroup OR serotype dengue)) AND (severity OR severe dengue* OR severity of illness index* OR clinical manifestations OR clinical features OR clinical characteristics) AND Indonesia. Based on search results, we obtained 7 studies out of 699 studies. 7 studies found that there are differences in serotype circulation in Indonesia. DENV-3 is dominant in 7 cities in Indonesia, while DENV-1 is dominant in Surabaya, Bali, and Jambi. Dengue fever shows a greater percentage than DHF / DSS. The proportion of severity is lower in primary infections.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria are a beneficial bacteria that live in plant tissue. Several studies have shown that certain endophytic bacteria can produce secondary metabolites that have health effects. The andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) have several properties, one of which is as antibacterial against pathogenic bacteria. The most common bacterial infections in humans are caused by commensal bacteria in the body such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This study used a qualitative data collection method with the type of experimental laboratory research to isolate the endophytic bacteria andaliman which had been tested against the pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The initial stage were isolation of endophytic bacteria and observation of colony characteristics, after obtaining isolates with different colony characteristics, a Gram stain test and a antagonist test for pathogenic bacteria were carried out. In this study, 252 colonies grew and there were 85 isolates with different colony characteristics. From all the isolates, there were two isolates that could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and seventeen isolates that could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

The widal test is a test for diagnostic of thyfoid fever serology. Widal test aims to detect the presence of antibodies against Salmonella antigen, by measuring the degree of agglutination of antibody titer to antigen O and H in sample. In this research Widal test was performed using serumand plasma samples. This study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the value of titer on the Widal test between serum samples and plasma EDTA samples. This type of research is an experimental study. Samples were taken from patient suspected of thyfoid fever of 10 sample in the Laboratory of SM Raja Amplas in 2018. The result of comparative titer Widal test using serum and plasma samples obtained results 30% of the 10 samples examined there are differences in the value of Widal titer but does not affect the final diagnosis of typhoid fever. The value of the Widal test titer using plasma is lower than the value of Widal Titer with the serum samples. The use of plasma samples to determine the Widal titer is particularity susceptible to mingling with the erythrocytes due to the presence of anticoagulant particles but does not affect the result of the Widal test. EDTA anticoagulants do not damage the antibodies contained in the serum, this can be seen in the results of the study, there were no differences in each sample examined, so the difference in results obtained due to other factors, namely the error of researchers in the Widal test. The Widal test using serum samples can gives results according to the actual circumstances because serum is not contaminated by EDTA anticoagulants.

Abstract

Health Care Workers (HCWs) are a top priority to receive the vaccination for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). After two doses of the Sinovac vaccine as the primary vaccine, protection against Covid-19 weakens over time, so a booster vaccination is considered to produce more antibodies. In addition, each vaccine is inseparable from Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI). This study compares antibody levels and AEFIs between two doses of the Sinovac vaccine with the Moderna booster. This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional study design and the sampling method is random sampling with a total of 74 HCWs using a consecutive sampling method. Samples that had received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine or booster doses of the Moderna vaccine after two doses of the Sinovac vaccine were included. Samples that had been infected with Covid-19 before vaccination were excluded. IgG antibody levels were measured using Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA), while vaccine type and AEFI were gathered via questionnaire. The severity of AEFIs is based on WHO classification. The data analysis used the Mann-Whitney and Chi-Square tests with a 95% Confidence Interval (CI) to determine the relationship between variables. Twenty-nine subjects received two doses of the Sinovac primary vaccine (38.2%), and forty-five received the Moderna booster vaccine (59.2%). In booster doses of the Moderna vaccine recipients, antibodies tended to be higher, and the most common AEFIs were systemic. There was a significant difference in IgG antibody levels between recipients of two doses of the Sinovac vaccine (median=2888.8 AU/mL) and booster Moderna vaccine recipients (median=18081.04 AU/mL) (p=0.000, p <0.05). There were significant differences in AEFI in the groups receiving two doses of the Sinovac vaccine and those receiving the booster vaccine (p=0.000, p<0.05). This study concludes that there is a significant correlation between administering the Covid-19 vaccine and post-vaccination IgG antibody levels and AEFI.
