Abstract

Cocoa is a prominent global export with strong competitiveness in the international market. During the 2019-2022 period, there was positive growth in cocoa exports while domestic cocoa production declined. The variability of cocoa production across provinces is due to the different levels of cocoa development in each region. This study aims to map cocoa base and non base regions in Indonesia and examine the characteristics of cocoa distribution across the provinces of Indonesia. This study is important because there have been limited studies about regional mapping of cocoa at the national level. It is also important to know the condition of regional mapping in the future. The regions observed in this study include 33 provinces in Indonesia that produce cocoa. The study uses secondary data which includes variables related to cocoa production and production of superior plantation commodities for seven years (2017-2023). The analysis used to answer the primary objective is Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) analysis, while the secondary objective uses Localisation and Specialisation analysis. The findings reveal 10 provinces as cocoa base regions, with Southeast Sulawesi exhibiting the highest LQ. North Sulawesi province has been identified as potential areas for future development. While 18 provinces have shifted from base regions to non base regions or are not prospective in the future. Localisation and Specialisation indices below 1 indicate that cocoa cultivation is geographically dispersed, with no single region dominating production.

Abstract

Abstract

Risk preference in agricultural finance had become a critical research domain as farmers faced increasing exposure to market volatility, climate change, and systemic uncertainties. Research that specifically investigated risk behaviour and preference within agricultural finance remained fragmented and underexplored. Consequently, the intellectual structure, thematic development, and collaborative landscape of this emerging field had not yet been systematically mapped. The study aimed to identify the key contributors, dominant themes, and intellectual foundations. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using Biblioshiny 4.4.1 on 1,496 documents retrieved from the Scopus, covering the period 1975–2025 (24 April 2025). The results showed that publications expanded significantly after 2005, reaching a peak in 2023. Insurance, investment, and sustainability emerged as central research themes, while financial literacy, climate change, and pandemic-related risk appeared as emerging frontiers. Research on agricultural finance and risk preference developed into a multidisciplinary and globally interconnected domain, drawing insights from economics, environmental studies, and behavioral sciences. Future research on risk behaviour in agricultural finance should integrate behavioural insights with digital finance and climate risk modelling while expanding evidence from underrepresented regions such as Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Stronger linkages between farmer behaviour and policy innovations are essential to advance agricultural finance.

Abstract

National or regional food security does not necessarily guarantee food security at the household or individual level. Although Jember Regency was classified as a highly food-secure region in 2024 based on Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas (FSVA) data, the reality of household-level food security urgently needs to be addressed. The objective of this research was to analyze household food security conditions based on Engel's Law and Jonsson & Toole's theory. Data from Susenas 2024, analyzed using the Jonsson and Toole method, revealed that the majority of households in Jember still face food vulnerability. Specifically, only about 35.49% (427 households) fell into the food-secure category. Conversely, nearly half, 49.34% (597 households), were in the food- vulnerable category. Additionally, approximately 7.60% (92 households) experienced food scarcity, and 7.77% (94 households) were in a state of food insecurity.

Abstract

Consumer demand for shallots continues to increase yearly, influencing farmers to cultivate the commodity. One of the influential factors is the use of good-quality seeds. The superior seed varieties used in shallot cultivation in Probolinggo Regency, East Java Province are Biru Lancor and Batu Ijo. Both varieties are equally superior in production, but there are advantages and disadvantages to each of them. This study investigates the income disparities and influential factors between two varieties of shallot farming: Biru Lancor and Batu Ijo. The research in Dringu District, Probolinggo Regency, was conducted in four selected villages as sample areas. Employing multistage purposive sampling, 60 shallot farmers participated, with 30 utilizing Biru Lancor and 30 adopting Batu Ijo varieties. Data collection involved primary and secondary sources, with surveys and interviews. This research used quantitative methods, including income analysis, t-tests, and dummy multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS. The findings reveal significant differences in farming income between Biru Lancor and Batu Ijo varieties. Key factors influencing shallot farming income encompass seed type, land costs, pesticide expenses, labor expenditures, production yields, and selling prices. This research provides valuable insights into optimizing shallot farming practices and enhancing farmers' income levels.

Abstract

Agricultural finance plays a crucial role in supporting productivity and sustainability, particularly in tobacco farming, which is characterized by high capital intensity. Although access to formal financial services has been relatively available, its utilization among farmers remains limited due to various technical, social, and psychological barriers. This community service activity aims to identify key constraints in accessing agricultural finance, explore multi-stakeholder perspectives, and formulate adaptive financing solutions tailored to the characteristics of tobacco farming. A participatory approach was employed through a focus group discussion (FGD) involving tobacco farmers, financial institutions, agricultural extension agents, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The activity was conducted in Jember Regency, one of the major tobacco-producing areas in East Java, Indonesia. The results indicate that barriers to accessing finance are not only structural, such as administrative requirements and collateral limitations, but also psychological factors, including fear of loan default and social stigma associated with formal borrowing. Additionally, financing is often used for household consumption rather than productive activities, reducing its effectiveness in supporting farm performance. From the supply side, financial institutions face high risks due to production uncertainty and price volatility, while regulators emphasize the importance of improving financial literacy among farmers. The FGD facilitated the integration of perspectives among stakeholders, leading to shared understanding and context-specific solutions. This study highlights that enhancing financial inclusion in the agricultural sector requires a collaborative approach, strengthening financial literacy, and developing flexible financing schemes aligned with seasonal farming patterns.
