Abstract

One of the risks often faced by palm oil agribusiness is the post harvest risk of losing fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from each post-harvest chain (loss post-harvest). Palm oil which is a mainstay of plantation crops Dharmasraya region, its production from year to year is always the largest compared with other commodities. However, in 2015 palm oil production was decrease compared to the previous year. This study aims to analyze farmers' management capability in palm oil management, analyze the large loss of FFB yields in each chain from farmer (harvest) to final processing plant, analyze the probability and impact of post-harvest loss FFB and post-harvest post-harvest status in each post-harvest chain (stage). The large percentage of production losses to the total production of FFB produced is 3.85% for the land, 0.05% for the process of crude FFB checking (TPH), and 5.5% in the factory sorting (PKS). The impact of losses resulting from post-harvest loss of FFB in total per hectare of land is Rp 2,848,528,41 at factory sorting, and is the biggest loss compared to other chains.

Abstract

Indonesia has a potential for diversity in agricultural commodities and a tropical climate. Sugar palm is a commodity that has the potential to be developed. Opportunities for developing sugar palm agribusiness are still broad, from providing production inputs such as seeds, planting (the farm), harvesting, processing products, marketing,  and supporting subsystems. Almost all palms are used and can be used for various needs. This research aims to analyze the feasibility of sugar palm farming in Lareh Sago Halaban District, Kab. Lima Puluh Kota. The quantitative research method calculates revenue, cost, and feasibility analysis of sugar palm farming. The research results show that the average fixed cost of sugar palm farming is IDR. 54.951.667 per hectare per year. The average variable cost of sugar palm farming is IDR. 20,233,333. The total average production cost of sugar palm farming is IDR. 75.185.000. The total revenue of sugar palm farming is IDR. 310,658,000 per hectare per year, consisting of fresh sap at IDR. 102,200,000 per hectare per year, palm sugar at IDR. 62,458,000 per hectare per year, and sugar palm at IDR. 146,000,000 per hectare per year. The R/C ratio for fresh sap is 1.35. For palm sugar, it is 0.83, and for ant sugar, it is 1.95. The feasibility analysis concluded that sugar palm farming is generally economically profitable, as evidenced by the feasibility values of fresh sap and palm sugar, which are greater than 1. Of the three products produced, palm sugar has the highest feasibility value (R/C = 1.95). In contrast, palm sugar has the lowest feasibility value or is not feasible with an R/C value of 0.83, which is less than 1.

Abstract

West Sumatra, one of the provinces in Indonesia, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural landscapes. Additionally, its agricultural sector significantly contributes to the region's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), including in Solok Selatan Regency, which boasts the Seribu Rumah Gadang area as its tourism icon. Solok Selatan Regency is also home to Lake Bontak, the only lake in the region, located within the conservation area of Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS), one of the gateways for climbing Mount Kerinci. The Independent Conservation Group (KKM) Bangun Rejo has been managing agro-ecotourism by establishing a Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) and farmer groups. These groups engage in integrated farming, agriculture, and livestock businesses with nature tourism at Lake Bontak. The empowerment of these community groups aims to develop sustainable agro-ecotourism in Solok Selatan Regency. One method used is Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to identify the potential for agro-ecotourism development at Lake Bontak. The outcomes of these activities include the agro-edutourism development concept, the creation of social media accounts for promotion, and the cleaning and installation of tracking paths and tourist activity guides in the Lake Bontak area. Additionally, there is an emphasis on educating the community about conducting tourism activities that prioritize biodiversity conservation within the conservation area to support ongoing environmental knowledge around Lake Bontak. It is hoped that this area will attract both local and international tourists, particularly students and researchers interested in exploring the flora and fauna potential through the agro-edutourism concept.

Abstract

Rice is a primary necessity for the Indonesian people, as it serves as a source of energy and carbohydrates. Rice cultivation requires strategic approaches to increase production, aiming to prevent threats to Indonesia's food security. One strategy that can be applied is the jajar legowo rice planting system. The jajar legowo system is a technique that manipulates planting distances to increase rice yields, resulting in a greater number of edge plants. This activity aims to enhance farmers' understanding of rice cultivation using the jajar legowo system to achieve better harvests and to boost their enthusiasm in working on their agricultural land. The activity was conducted on the rice fields owned by the Tanjung Raya farming group, located in Nagari Sungai Dareh, Pulau Punjung District, Dharmasraya Regency. The method employed involved directly practising the jajar legowo rice planting system in the farmers' rice fields. The activity proceeded smoothly, successfully increasing the farmers' understanding of *jajar legowo* rice cultivation to achieve better harvests. Both the farmers and students involved in the activity were able to perform their tasks according to the specified guidance. Looking forward, it is hoped that similar activities will be held, as this initiative by the students of Campus III Universitas Andalas Dharmasraya aims to provide benefits and positive contributions to the surrounding community.
