Abstract

Trail runs have a high risk of injury like ankle sprains. Proper ankle sprain first aid requires preparedness to prevent more serious danger and ensure its success in the pre-hospital setting. This study aimed to explore key determinants of trail run athletes’ preparedness to perform pre-hospital first aid for ankle sprain using the PRECEDE-PROCEED Model theory. The research method used a descriptive correlational which approached cross-sectionally. The research recruited 120 trail run athletes of two professional clubs who were selected by simple random sampling. Data was collected using questionnaires. The variables measured were knowledge, belief, value, attitude, and confidence. Bivariate analysis used chi-square and spearman-rho tests. Multivariate analysis used a logistic regression test. All of the statistical analyses used α = 0,05. The research results show that half of the respondents was 18 – 35 years old. The factors correlated to the trail run preparedness to perform pre-hospital first aid for ankle sprain was as follows. The majority had a medium level of knowledge (54,2%) and a significance level of p = 0.000. Similar trends were found between belief, value, and confidence in which there were no low levels of those variables with the same significance value of p = 0.000. Lastly, respondent’s percentages of attitudes were almost equally distributed between negative (45%) and positive (66%) with a significance level of p = 0,000. In multivariate analysis, all the variables had p-values < 0,05. The OR was as follows, knowledge 14,713; belief 77,919; value 27,554; attitude 7,213; and confidence 12,408.  The conclusion is found that knowledge, belief, value, attitude, and confidence were significantly correlated with the athlete’s preparedness Together all variables were correlated significantly to the athlete’s preparedness to perform pre-hospital first aid for ankle sprain. In conclusion, to improve athlete safety during trail runs is by improving the preparedness for any adverse event including trail runs. All of the factors could increase preparedness, but some factors resulted in higher preparedness. The factors that have more effect on preparedness than the others are belief and value.

Abstract

Background: The decision-making process to search for child health services involves interaction among the mother, partner, and other family members. Parental decision-making is highly complex since it involves an emotional consideration between the benefit and the child's future. The common problem in deciding the service is the lack of capabilities, such as facility, knowledge, and skill. Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of socio-demographic factors on parents' decision-making in obtaining health services for their children Methods: This study design was cross-sectional data from the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) of 2017, which was applied in this study. The respondents involved were 8,838 women aged 15-49 who had given birth in the last five years. This study employed descriptive, chi-square, and regression statistics analysis. The results were provided as adjusted odds ratios (AORs) with 95 percent confidence intervals. The statistical analysis utilized SPSS version 21.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA).Results: Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between decision-making and age, living place, educational background, and wealth index (p-values 0.030, <0.001, 0.002, and 0.006), but not with health insurance ownership (p=0.242). After multivariate analysis, only age-related decisions were associated with a significant risk. It explained that younger group (15-29) has a 0.325 times chance of making a joint decision than the 40 to 49-year-old group (AOR: 0.325; 95%CI: 0.144-0.733). Conclusion: Parental decision-making regarding childcare is related to several factors, namely age, living place, educational background, and socioeconomic status. Health education is a strategy to promote child health in Indonesia by facilitating proper decision-making.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes ranks among the ten leading causes of mortality. Patients with diabetes who do not effectively manage their condition run the risk of developing severe complications. An appropriate dietary regimen is considered a fundamental aspect of effectively managing diabetes. One potential treatment option for diabetics is resistant starch (RS), which is supposed to control blood glucose levels. Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of resistant starch on food items characterized by a high glycemic index. Methods: The methodology employed in this scholarly article is a systematic review. A comprehensive search was conducted across five prominent academic databases, namely EBSCO, PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The search strategy involved utilizing specific keywords, The presentation of the findings in this article adheres to the established guidelines and principles outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review (PRISMA). Results: A total of eight statistically significant findings were observed, indicating that the consumption of starches effectively reduced blood sugar levels. The papers utilized genuine experimentation and quasi-experiment approaches within the past five years. Numerous interventions involving resistant starch have demonstrated efficacy in the reduction of blood glucose levels. These interventions include the retrogradation of rice, the consumption of natural starch found in bananas and whole grains, as well as the addition of oil during the cooking process of rice. Conclusions: The inclusion of different forms of resistant starch in the dietary regimen of individuals with diabetes may be a viable option. However, it is important to acknowledge the significance of incorporating complementary food items in addition to the primary staple foods that are consumed. The utilization of resistant starch has been found to be an effective strategy for reducing blood glucose levels among individuals with diabetes.
