Abstract

Introduction: Sepsis is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in critical patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Delays in identifying organ dysfunction are an important factor that increases the risk of death. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) Score is an assessment tool that is widely used to measure the extent of organ damage and predict mortality in sepsis patients. Objective: To know the output results of sepsis and sepsis shock patients and which indicators of the SOFA Score affect the patient's output. Methods: Quantitative research with a retrospective cohort design with a total population of 102 patients with a sample of 53 patients assisted by scoring assessment using the MDCalc application. Results:  overall output experienced mortality with the indicators that affected the SOFA Score score, namely; MAP, FiO2, Ventilator Use, Billirubin, and GCS. Other indicators that affect output include; RR, Glucose, and Leukocytes. Conclusion: This study confirms that SOFA Score can be used as an effective prediction tool to assess the prognosis of sepsis patients, as well as sepsis shock so that it can assist health workers in clinical decision-making and therapy planning more appropriately.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: One important aspect of PHBS is handwashing with soap, which has been proven to be an effective way to prevent various infectious diseases. In the healthcare sector, handwashing with soap is very crucial, especially in preventing nosocomial infections, namely infections that occur in hospitals due to the transmission of bacteria and viruses from the non-sterile hospital environment. Medical personnel and patients' families play a major role in preventing these infections. However, many patients' families still do not pay attention to hand hygiene when visiting patient treatment rooms. Objective: This community service activity aims to increase the understanding of patient families regarding the importance of hand hygiene both before and after carrying out activities while the patient and family are in the treatment room at the hospital. Objective: This community service activity aims to increase the understanding of patient families regarding the importance of hand hygiene both before and after carrying out activities while the patient and family are in the treatment room at the hospital. Method: Education was carried out through lectures and direct demonstrations in the Marwa Inpatient Room, RSI Arafah Jambi with the participation of 15 people, using leaflets and flipcharts. Results: The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the six steps of handwashing according to WHO standards and an increase in the understanding of patient families regarding risk factors for falls in patients. Before the education, only 6 out of 15 participants (17.14%) understood the material. After the education, all participants (100%) showed a good understanding. Thus, there was an increase in understanding of 82.86%. Participants also actively discussed and showed high enthusiasm in the activity. With this education, it is hoped that hand hygiene practices using 6 steps can be applied consistently in daily life, so that clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) by washing hands through 6 steps can be continuously implemented. Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a global health problem whose prevalence continues to increase from year to year. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that hypertension is one of the leading causes of death from cardiovascular disease worldwide. According to WHO data, approximately 1.28 billion adults aged 30–79 years suffer from hypertension globally. One natural ingredient that has attracted attention in the treatment of hypertension is garlic (Allium sativum). Thus, this paper aims to examine the effectiveness of garlic as a blood pressure-lowering drug in patients with hypertension and its underlying mechanism of action. Methods: A comprehensive review of relevant studies was conducted, analyzing findings related to hypertension management, barriers to treatment, and the role of healthcare professionals and complementary therapies in improving patient compliance. This study used search engines and databases. Result: The analyzed research findings consistently demonstrate that garlic has significant potential in lowering blood pressure among individuals with hypertension. Conclusion: Garlic (Allium sativum Linn.) has proven to be significantly effective in reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients in various preparations such as extracts, decoctions, and infusions, primarily through the action of allicin as a vasodilator, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by a persistent increase in blood pressure that requires long-term therapy and risk factor control. This study aimed to describe the blood pressure profile of patients with hypertension who had a history of using antihypertensive medication for three to five years in the working area of Puskesmas Simpang IV Sipin, Jambi City. The study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a total sampling technique involving 40 respondents. Data were collected using a respondent characteristic questionnaire, interviews, and blood pressure measurements with a digital sphygmomanometer after participants rested for five minutes. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (72.5%), had a college education (30%), worked as housewives (60%), and had suffered from hypertension for five years (62.5%). Based on blood pressure measurements, most respondents had systolic blood pressure in the moderate hypertension category (57.5%) and mild hypertension (42.5%). Meanwhile, diastolic blood pressure was predominantly in the mild hypertension category (62.5%), followed by high-normal (20%), normal (10%), and moderate hypertension (7.5%). The findings indicate that a portion of respondents still experienced uncontrolled blood pressure despite long-term antihypertensive medication use. Contributing factors include medication adherence, high-sodium diet, stress, and lack of physical activity. Continuous education, regular monitoring, and lifestyle modification efforts are necessary to achieve optimal blood pressure control.
