Abstract

Hypertension is a significant global public health concern that often remains asymptomatic in its early stages, emphasizing the need for proactive prevention and management strategies. This community service program, Together Against Hypertension, was conducted in Jambi City in collaboration with the Nursing Student Association of Universitas Jambi, aiming to enhance public awareness of hypertension and identify individuals at risk through targeted blood pressure screenings. The program employed a two-pronged approach: (1) educational sessions focused on the etiology, risk factors, complications, and prevention of hypertension, with an emphasis on lifestyle modifications; and (2) blood pressure screenings to detect undiagnosed hypertension or prehypertension cases within the community. Participants included diverse demographic groups, with nursing students acting as facilitators under professional supervision. The findings revealed that 35% of participants exhibited elevated blood pressure, with 20% previously unaware of their hypertensive status. Educational activities significantly improved participants' understanding of hypertension and its management, fostering greater adherence to regular monitoring and healthy behaviors. This initiative underscores the importance of community-based interventions in addressing hypertension and provides a scalable model for similar programs aimed at improving population health outcomes.

Abstract

Cardiac catheterization is an invasive procedure for coronary heart disease that can trigger anxiety. This anxiety activates the HPA axis and the sympathetic nervous system, which increases heart rate and blood pressure, worsening cardiovascular conditions and raising the risk of complications such as bleeding and vascular occlusion. Therefore, patient anxiety before catheterization must be addressed to prevent complications. Spiriziomacare is a spiritual intervention that combines dhikr (remembrance of God) and aromatherapy to reduce anxiety. This study aims to assess the effect of Spiriziomacare on anxiety and vital signs in pre-cardiac catheterization patients. Using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre and post-test design, a purposive sampling technique was applied to 40 patients at RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi. Data collected included demographic information, anxiety scores, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. The results show a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (from 132.63 to 129.63 mmHg), diastolic blood pressure (from 83.10 to 83.15 mmHg), heart rate (from 80.13 bpm to 77.93 bpm), and respiratory rate (from 22.4 to 21.65 breaths per minute) after the intervention. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant effect of Spiriziomacare on anxiety (p=0.000), systolic blood pressure (p=0.015), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.017), heart rate (p=0.045), and respiratory rate (p=0.000). Spiriziomacare effectively reduces anxiety and stabilizes the vital signs of patients before cardiac catheterization.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women globally. Beyond its physical impact, it brings complex psychological consequences, including stress, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can affect treatment adherence and quality of life. This literature review aims to explore the psychological impact of breast cancer diagnosis and identify the coping strategies used by patients to manage their emotional burden. A literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. Selected studies focused on psychological effects and coping mechanisms among breast cancer patients, including family and social support, cultural-religious factors, and psychological interventions. The findings show that emotional distress following a breast cancer diagnosis is influenced by cancer stage, treatment type, physical changes, support systems, and cultural belief. Adaptive coping strategies such as religious faith, emotional support, positive reframing, and acceptance promote psychological adjustment and treatment compliance. In contrast, maladaptive strategies like avoidance and denial worsen emotional outcomes. Breast cancer has a profound psychological impact requiring comprehensive mental health care. Integrating psychological and cultural-religious support into cancer treatment improves emotional well-being and clinical outcomes.

Abstract

Hypertension is a medical condition that often requires long-term management to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Herbal therapy has become an intriguing focus of research in seeking effective and sustainable alternatives in lowering blood pressure. This literature review presents an analysis of seven scientific journals focusing on herbal therapy for hypertension. The study employs a Literature Review method by gathering articles from relevant journals. The review findings indicate that various herbal therapies, ranging from garlic combination herbal medicine, rosella flower decoction, green tea consumption, education on the use of gotu kola and turmeric leaves, to cucumber juice therapy, bay leaf, and papaya juice, have the potential to lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The mechanisms of action of these herbs vary, including vasodilator, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. Based on the review of the seven published journals, it can be concluded that non-pharmacological therapy plays a significant role in hypertension treatment. These journals highlight the importance of considering comprehensive and individualized treatment options when managing hypertensive patients. Although the research methods vary, the results consistently indicate significant benefits of non-pharmacological treatment. However, further research is needed to validate these findings and expand our understanding of the efficacy and mechanisms of non-pharmacological treatments.

Abstract

Pain is the most complex human experience and is a phenomenon that is influenced by interactions between emotions, behavior, cognitive and physiological sensory factors. Pain as a subjective sensory and unpleasant emotional experience is related to actual or potential tissue damage or is felt in events described by the term damage. The cause of pain is not only life-threatening diseases such as cancer, but also injuries, surgery, burns, infections and the effects of violence. A person also experiences pain from many of the procedures and investigations used by doctors and nurses to investigate and treat disease. Pain can be managed by pain management by taking deep breaths. Deep breathing relaxation techniques can reduce pain by relaxing muscle tension that supports pain. The relaxation technique consists of slow, rhythmic, abdominal breathing. The patient can close his eyes and breathe slowly and comfortably. The aim of this service is to provide knowledge and skills in managing pain for heart disease sufferers with clinical symptoms of pain immediately after the pain appears, which can be done by the patient or with the guidance of the family. The method used was counseling for patients and families with heart disease who were undergoing treatment at the Heart Care Unit at Raden Mattaher Hospital, Jambi, totaling 20 people. The results of the service activities showed that there were changes in respondents' knowledge regarding non-pharmacological pain management, and increased ability to perform deep breathing techniques for pain management.

Abstract

Hospitals play a key role in promoting health through education, especially for patients and their families. One effective method to support postpartum recovery is postpartum exercise, which helps restore bodily functions, promote uterine involution, and prevent complications. At the Mina Inpatient Ward of RSI Arafah Jambi, many postpartum mothers had not received proper education about these exercises. To address this, a community service activity was held from April 29 to May 12, 2025, targeting 16 postpartum mothers. Five mothers received only verbal education due to limited mobility, while 11 joined both education and exercise demonstrations. Observations and discussions showed improved knowledge and skills, with most mothers able to recall and correctly perform the exercises. Their active participation and positive feedback highlighted the effectiveness of the educational approach. This initiative proves valuable in enhancing postpartum recovery and is recommended for continued integration into hospital health promotion programs.

Abstract

Introduction : Gouty arthritis is a prevalent and painful form of inflammatory arthritis, primarily managed through medication. Effective home care for gout patients hinges on proper medication management, including correct dosing, adherence, and monitoring of potential side effects. This literature review explores recent trends and challenges in medication management for gouty arthritis patients receiving home care, aiming to provide insights for improving patient outcomes. Methods: A comprehensive search of relevant studies was conducted, analyzing findings on home management of gouty arthritis patients, treatment-related barriers, and the role of healthcare providers in patient adherence. Results: indicate that although medication adherence is essential for effective management, numerous issues, such as patient misunderstanding, adverse effects, and accessibility of medications, contribute to non-adherence. Additionally, family involvement and ongoing healthcare support significantly impact patient outcomes in home care settings. Conclusion: suggest that enhancing patient education, simplifying medication regimens, and increasing support from healthcare providers can improve medication adherence and efficacy in managing gouty arthritis at home. Further research is recommended to develop targeted interventions addressing these challenges in medication management for gout patients in home care.
