Abstract

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-pharmacological therapy method used to reduce pain, including in burn patients. Burns cause complex pain, both acute and chronic, thus requiring multidisciplinary management. This study is a literature review aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) in reducing pain in burn patients. Data were collected from 10 scientific articles published within the last ten years, including clinical studies, pilot studies, and meta-analyses. The review findings indicate that Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is effective in reducing pain intensity, accelerating wound healing, improving sleep quality, and decreasing the need for pharmacological analgesics. Additionally, the use of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) has been reported as safe and does not cause significant side effects. However, most of the analyzed studies still have limitations, such as small sample sizes and short intervention durations. Therefore, further research with stronger experimental designs is needed to strengthen clinical evidence and support the implementation of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) as part of pain management in burn patients.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes significantly affects patients' quality of life (QOL). The "Create Sensitivity" model, integrating cognitive restructuring, patient discharge planning, self-care, and hope cultivation, offers a holistic approach to address these patients' psychological and emotional challenges. Purpose: This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the "Create Sensitivity" treatment model in improving glycemic control and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes compared to standard care. Methods: Seventy adults with type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned to either the "Create Sensitivity" intervention group (n=35) or a standard care control group (n=35). The intervention consisted of 12 weekly 2-hour group sessions. HbA1c levels, mean blood glucose, and QOL scores were measured at baseline and 12 weeks post-intervention. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: The "Create Sensitivity" intervention group showed significant improvements in HbA1c levels (8.7% to 5.88% vs. 8.03% to 7.71%, p<0.001), mean blood glucose levels (203.25 mg/dL to 122.12 mg/dL vs. 184.05 mg/dL to 175.02 mg/dL, p<0.001), and quality of life scores (31.63 to 58.54 vs. 37.14 to 39.8, p<0.001) compared to the control group receiving standard care, with large effect sizes for all outcomes. Conclusions: The "Create Sensitivity" program effectively improved glycemic control and QOL in patients with type 2 diabetes. Integrating psychological and behavioural strategies into diabetes management may enhance patient outcomes. Further research is needed to assess long-term impacts and broader applicability.

Abstract

Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the respiratory tract and lung tissue caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi. It is the leading cause of death in children under five, with estimates that every 20 seconds, a child under five dies from pneumonia. Despite being a significant cause of death, pneumonia is often overlooked due to low detection, non-specific symptoms, and lack of attention in treating this problem. The management of pneumonia does not only focus on the administration of antibiotics, but also involves supportive therapies such as respiratory physiotherapy. Breathing exercises are one of the simple interventions that have been proven effective in helping relieve complaints of shortness of breath in pneumonia patients. This article aims to review the literature related to the application of breathing exercises in overcoming shortness of breath in pneumonia patients as a basis for developing clinical interventions. The method used is SLR (Systematic Literature Review) by analyzing, reviewing and drawing conclusions that are relevant to the research topic and can be accounted for. The results of the analysis of several articles showed that the application of breathing exercise in shortness of breath pneumonia is effective in the long term and easy to apply directly by everyone. In this case it is concluded that Breathing exercise is scientifically proven to be able to reduce the level of shortness of breath, increase oxygen saturation, and slow down breathing.

Abstract

Global economic losses from workplace heat and reduced labor productivity are projected to reach nearly US$2 trillion by 2030. The rubber processing industry is particularly vulnerable to heat exposure. This study aimed to describe worker sociodemographic characteristics and assess the relationship between perceived heat stress, nutritional status, physical activity, and occupational fatigue among employees at PT. X in Jambi Province. A cross-sectional design with purposive sampling involved 74 workers across three production areas. Fatigue was measured using the Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory (SOFI), while perceived heat stress was assessed with the Heat Stress Perception Index (HSSI). Data were analyzed with univariate and multivariate methods, including multiple linear regression. Participants had a mean age of 34.03 years, BMI of 25.88, and oxygen saturation of 98.01%. The mean heat stress perception score was 50.31, and occupational fatigue averaged 40.55. Lack of energy was the most reported fatigue dimension (mean = 49.23), whereas lack of motivation was the least (mean = 29.92). Regression analysis identified gender (p = 0.003), physical activity (p = 0.031), and perceived heat stress (p = 0.035) as significant predictors. These findings highlight the need for targeted occupational health interventions to mitigate fatigue in the rubber processing industry

Abstract

Critical thinking in the concept of nursing philosophy in nursing is complex and is explained by various different definitions. These various definitions have caused confusion about what is meant by understanding the concept or model of nursing. Many literature reviews have examined nursing model theories and related definitions and measurements, but none offer a new perspective to view the same conclusion. The researcher looked at the use of the drilling method drill method to improve students' knowledge in the course of nursing philosophy and theoriesin. The research design used a pre-test and post-test without a control group, which is a design that treats one group without a comparison group. Respondents numbered 120 students who were members of the nursing theory class which were then divided into 4 large groups. The effectiveness of the treatment was assessed by comparing the post-test and pre-test scores. During this study, respondents will be given 6 learning sessions divided into 12 face-to-face meetings related to nursing theory, namely the theories of Florence Nightingale, Jean Orlando, Martha E Roger, and Watson. The results of the statistical test using the Wilcoxon test obtained a p value = 0.001, there was a significant difference in knowledge between before and after being given the Drilling Method. The knowledge of respondents after being given the Drilling Method showed a significant increase, so it is important to continue using the Drilling Method to improve knowledge and competence. The Drilling Method is an effective learning method to improve competence in the cognitive aspect. In the future, this method is expected to be applied in the learning process to improve the competence of nursing students in other courses.
