Abstract

The research aimed to sex ratio and size at first maturity of snakehead gudgeon at Bolano Sau Lake. The research was conducted at Bolano Sau Lake from August to December 2019. Snakehead gudgeon samples were obtained from the fishermen using a gillnet with a mesh size 2½-3½ inches. Sample analysis was carried out at the Water Quality Laboratory, State College of Fisheries and Marine, Palu. The difference in sex ratios of snakehead gudgeon used the Chi-square test, while the size at first maturity was estimated based on the Spearman - Karber method. Snakehead gudgeon caught on a gillnet in Bolano Sau Lake measuring 79-163 mm. The sex ratio between males and females is not balanced where males are more dominant in females. The size at first maturity was 119.19 mm. Suggestion minimum legal size > 120 mm. The use of gillnets in snakehead gudgeon fishing activities has an effect on the balance of male and females, but is very selective with size.

Abstract

Peningkatan salinitas pada media budidaya pembesaran glass eel ikan sidat (Anguilla marmorata) perlu dilakukan sebagai pengalihan energi yang digunakan untuk osmoregulasi menjadi energi yang digunakan untuk pertumbuhan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup glass eel ikan sidat (Anguilla marmorata) yang dipelihara dalam media bersalinitas berbeda. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Perikanan/Budidaya Perairan Fakultas Peternakan dan Perikanan Universitas Tadulako, Palu, Sulawesi Tengah. Penelitian dirancang dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) menggunakan 5 (lima) perlakuan yang masing-masing diulang sebanyak 4 (empat) kali sehingga diperoleh 20 unit percobaan. Perlakuan tersebut adalah S0 (kontrol), S3 (salinitas 3 ppt), S6 (salinitas 6 ppt), S9 (salinitas 9 ppt) dan S12 (salinitas 12 ppt). Hasil penelitian menunjukan pertumbuhan terbaik bobot rata-rata glass eel ikan sidat (Anguilla marmorata) pada perlakuan salinitas 3 ppt dengan nilai 0,8 g, pertumbuhan terbaik panjang rata-rata pada salinitas 3 ppt dengan nilai 4,96 cm dan kelangsungan hidup terbaik pada perlakuan 6 ppt dengan presentasi 94,16%.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) or capungan Banggai (often abbreviated as BCF) is a marine fish endemic to the waters around the Banggai Archipelago, caught in large numbers for the marine aquarium trade. The conservation of this endemic species became an international issue, in 2007 the BCF was proposed for CITES listing by the USA and listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List. The CITES proposal was withdrawn, with Indonesia committed to conserve the Banggai Cardinalfish through a sustainable ornamental fishery approach. The multi-stakeholder Banggai Cardinalfish Action Plan (2007-2012) and other initiatives have aimed towards this goal; however the initiative to secure limited protected status in 2011 failed. Studies during 2011-2012 found many positive developments in the BCF fishery, and if the carrying capacity (stocks and ecosystems) was similar to the early 2000’s, current official exploitation levels should be sustainable. However a stock assessment analysis using FISAT II revealed a high exploitation level (0.5), indicating catches may have reached or possibly exceeded sustainable limits. Survey/monitoring results indicate the endemic population is not in a steady state, with sharp declines in the past decade. There are strong indications that habitat degradation is the main cause of this decline, including over-exploitation of key BCF micro-habitat (sea urchins and sea anemones). Without an effective solution to protect the supporting ecosystem, P. Kauderni will be increasingly threatened with extinction, with or without fishing pressure. The case of the BCF highlights the importance of an ecosystem-based approach to fisheries policy and management.Key words: ecosystem-based approach to fisheries management, Pterapogon kauderni, stockassessment, sustainable ornamental fishery-------ABSTRAKBanggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) yang sering disingkat BCF atau capungan Banggai merupakan ikan laut endemik di perairan Banggai Kepulauan dan sekitarnya yang ditangkap dalam jumlah besar untuk diperdagangkan sebagai ikan hias. Kelestarian spesies endemik tersebut menjadi isu internasional dan pada tahun 2007 diusulkan pada CITES oleh Amerika Serikat dan didaftarkan sebagai Endangered pada Red List IUCN. Status terdaftar pada CITES ditangguhkan, namun Indonesia berkomitmen untuk menjamin kelestarian Banggai cardinalfish dengan pola sustainable ornamental fishery. Rencana Aksi Banggai Cardinalfish multi-stakeholder (2007-2012) dan beberapa inisiatif lain bertujuan mewujudkan tujuan tersebut antara lain penetapan status jenis lindung terbatas, namun upaya yang diinisiasi pada tahun 2011 tersebut gagal. Berdasarkan data kajian 2011-2012, banyak perubahan positif dalam perikanan BCF, dan jika daya dukung alam (stok dan ekosistem) masih seperti pada awal tahun 2000-an tingkat pemanfaatan resmi seharusnya sustainable. Hasil kajian menggunakan FISAT II bahwa tingkat pemanfaatan (0,5) tergolong tinggi, dan merupakan indikasi bahwa tingkat pemanfaatan telah pada atau melebihi batas maksimal lestari. Hasil survey/monitoring menunjukkan bahwa populasi endemik tidak pada kondisi steady state dan menunjukkan penurunan tajam dalam dekade terakhir. Terindikasi kuat bahwa penyebab utama penurunan tersebut adalah degradasi habitat, antara lain akibat pemanfaatan lebih mikrohabitat (bulu babi dan anemon laut). Tanpa solusi efektif untuk melestarikan ekosistem pendukung, P. kauderni akan semakin terancam punah, dengan atau tanpa adanya penangkapan. Abstract

Budidaya ikan secara intensif, dengan padat penebaran dan dosis pemberian pakan yang tinggi akan mengakibatkan penurunan kualitas air budidaya, dimana sisa pakan dan sisa metabolisme ikan pada wadah budidaya, akan menghasilkan toksin berupa amonia sehingga dibutuhkan sistem budidaya yang dapat mereduksi toksin. Akuaponik merupakan salah satu sistem budidaya yang mampu mereduksi toksin di perairan dengan cara mempertahankan kualitas air selama periode tertentu tanpa mengganggu pertumbuhan ikan yang dipelihara dengan menggunakan tanaman sebagai biofilter. Tanaman akuaponik yang sering digunakan pembudidaya adalah tanaman yang memiliki akar serabut, antara lain kangkung air, sawi, selada. Jenis-jenis tanaman tersebut dapat memanfaatkan unsur hara yang ada dalam air media budidaya dari hasil buangan bahan organik oleh bakteri nitrifikasi berupa nitrat untuk pertumbuhan tanaman yang dibudidayakan. Adapun jenis ikan yang sering digunakan dalam sistem akuaponik adalah ikan mas, nila, lele, bawal dan patin. Ikan mas (Cyprinus carpio L.) pada saat ini merupakan ikan air tawar yang paling tinggi produksinya dan sudah dibudidayakan secara komersil. Penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan ikan mas (C. carpio) pada media biofilter dengan menggunakan jenis tanaman berbeda. Ikan mas yang digunakan dalam penelitian berukuran 5 – 7 cm. Penelitian didesain dengan menggunakan pola rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) 4 perlakuan (sebagai biofilter, yaitu tanaman sawi, kangkung, selada dan tanpa tanaman sebagai kontrol. Semua perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penggunaan biofilter tanaman sawi memberikan pertumbuhan bobot mutlak tertinggi pada ikan mas.

Abstract

The climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) is an economically valuable freshwater fish. Relatively slow growth has been a challenge in the domestication of this species in Indonesia. Nutrition, including feed lipid content, is one factor affecting growth. This study examined the effect of enriching feed with fish oil on the growth and survival of climbing perch (A. testudineus) fingerlings. The research was carried out at the Water Quality and Aquatic Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Tadulako University, Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia from 17 December to 18 January 2020. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. The fish oil feed enrichment treatments were: A (control, 0%); B (1%); C (2%) and D (3%). Water quality remained within the optimum range throughout the research period. Over the month, climbing perch absolute weight gain ranged from 2.4±0.981 g (A) to 3.4 ± 0.836 g (D), while growth in length ranged from 0.404±0.092 cm (A) to 0.504±0.071 cm (D); however, the differences were not statistically significant (P0.05). The survival rate of climbing perch over the one month study period was 100% under all treatments, indicating that basic nutritional needs were met. Enrichment of a commercial feed with fish oil (Scott’s emulsion) at rates of 1-3% did not provide a significant benefit in terns of climbing perch fingerling growth.

Abstract

Gelatin adalah sejenis protein yang dapat diekstraksi dari tulang dan kulit ikan maupun hewan lainnya. Gelatin bersifat mudah larut dalam air, pada suhu ±71 ºC gelatin akan tercampur secara homogen. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh berbagai konsentrasi enzim papain dalam perendaman tulang ikan tuna. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan analisis ragam (Anova) dengan uji-F. Hasil analisis menunjukkan rendemen gelatin tertinggi 1.50% pada konsentrasi enzim papain 16% dan rendemen gelatin teredah sebesar 1.39% pada konsentrasi enzim papain 24%. Berdasarkan hal ini dapat dikatakan bahwa konsentrasi enzim papain sebesar 16% v/w dapat meningkatkan rendemen gelatin yang dihasilkan.

Abstract

Caridina kaili is one of the endemic shrimp in Lake Lindu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This shrimp has beautiful color and potential as ornamental shrimp, so it needs to be domesticated. The successful ex situ breeding of C. kaili is also expected to avoid overexploitation the shrimp in their habitat in the future. The aim of this study to analized habitat characteristics, survival during and rearing after transportation, percentage of moulting and growth of C. kaili during post-transport rearing. Shrimp are collected in two inlet rivers in Lake Lindu, Uwe Pada and Uwe Lembosa. Transportation using a closed system with a density of 15 ind./L. Shrimp from Uwe Pada are transported for 8 hours 8 minutes, while shrimp from Uwe Lembosa 11 hours 39 minutes. The results showed that C. kaili lives in the shore of streams which have slow current and clear, substrate is coarse sand, mud-sand and leaf litter, and plant roots. The habitat has a temperature range of 18.9-22.7°C; pH 7.73-8.17 and dissolved oxygen 1.99-2.11 mg/L. Survival and percentage molting during transport ranges from 96-100% and 4-5%. During post-transportation rearing, the final survival of shrimp from Uwe Pada is higher (88%) compared to Uwe Lembosa (67%). Higher moulting percentage of shrimp from Uwe Lembosa (27.6-31.4%) and lower growth (0.31 cm long and 0.56 g weight) compared to shrimp from Uwe Pada (moulting 19.6-22.2%, 0.56 cm long and 0.81 g weight), indicate stress conditions of shrimp from Uwe Lembosa due to longer transportation. This study is the first report on the performance of C. kaili during transportation and rearing post-transportation in a controlled environment

Abstract

The endemic Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is an Indonesian conservation priority with Endangered species. The goal of this research was to develop a site-based conservation concept appropriate from a bio-ecological viewpoint, based on the unusual characteristics of this species, in particular: (i) mouthbrooder with direct development, leading to reproductively isolated stocks and fine scale genetic structure; (ii) high level of reliance on habitat, in particular symbiosis with benthic animals providing protective micro-habitat. Methods used include review and analysis of published literature and unpublished data, including an analysis using the Marxan spatial planning software. We suggest several policy options and identify research needs, including: (i) base P. kauderni conservation (protection, rehabilitation and sustainable use) on stocks as the basic management unit; (ii) use data on P. kauderni genetic stocks in the zonation of the proposed Banggai Archipelago marine protected area (MPA); (iii) undertake further research to identify stocks/stock boundaries; (iv) apply the "BCF gardens" concept to fine-scale rebuilding of P. kauderni populations and enabling sustainable use through micro-habitat rehabilitation, with a community-based approach supported by a multi-phase scientific research program. The outputs from this study should support efforts towards sustainable management of the Banggai cardinalfish, particularly in the context of strategies to develop and manage an effective sub-national MPA. Abstract

The endemic Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is one of conservation priority marine species in Indonesia. With a conservation status of Endangered, Indonesia has made a commitment to P. kauderni conservation, and policy development is underway. P. kauderni lives in symbiosis with sea urchins (Diadema sp.), sea anemones and branching corals. This research evaluated the current status of and threats to P. kauderni microhabitat, including the climate change context. Primary data were collected using Coral-Watch and swim survey methods during the 2016 global bleaching event, and compared with survey data collected since 2004. The study revealed a sharp decline in Diadema sp. population abundance as well as reduced sea anemone abundance, in both cases largely due to sharp increases in exploitation by local communities, mostly for human consumption. Corals and other microhabitats had also suffered from increased coral reef degradation related to local-scale destructive human activities, as well as climate-related coral bleaching. Wherever microhabitat availability was greatly reduced, P. kauderni abundance had declined sharply, irrespective of fishing pressure on this species. Microhabitat protection and recovery is considered a sine qua non prerequisite for successful in-situ P. kauderni conservation. The results contribute to the scientific basis for sustainable management of endemic P. kauderni stocks and habitat. Keywords Endangered species; symbiosis; microhabitat; overfishing; coral bleaching

Abstract

Demand for tropical eel seed has been increased and many tropical eel populations are under pressure. To conserve eel biodiversity and manage eel populations sustainably, it is necessary to identify eel species and their recruitment patterns at regional and watershed scales. The research objective was to determine the species composition and temporal recruitment patterns of glass eels recruiting to Palu River in Central Sulawesi. Glass eels sampling were conducted in January-April 2009, May-November 2010 and April-December 2011. Identification under anaesthetic (15-17.5 ppm clove oil solution) was based mainly on the number of ano-dorsal vertebrae (ADV). Species composition was dominated by two commercially species, Anguilla marmorata and A. bicolor pacifica with substantial variation and no clear temporal patterns. Specimens of other species that important from conservation and biodiversity aspects were present at each month but cannot be accurately identified using the ADV method. DNA analysis method is required to identify these specimens. Abstrak Permintaan benih ikan sidat tropis meningkat dan banyak populasi sidat tropis telah mengalami tekanan. Untuk meles-tarikan keanekaragaman hayati ikan sidat dan mengelola populasi sidat secara berkelanjutan, perlu identifikasi spesies maupun pola rekrutmennya pada skala regional maupun daerah aliran sungai. Tujuan penelitian adalah menentukan komposisi jenis dan pola rekrutmen glass eels secara temporal di Sungai Palu, Sulawesi Tengah. Sampling dilakukan pada bulan Januari-April 2009, Mei-November 2010, dan April-Desember 2011. Identifikasi contoh ikan dalam kea-daan pingsan (menggunakan larutan minyak cengkeh 15-17.5 ppm) terutama didasarkan pada jumlah anodorsal vertebrae (ADV). Komposisi jenis didominasi oleh dua spesies bernilai ekonomis, yaitu Anguilla marmorata dan Anguilla bicolor pacifica, namun sangat bervariasi tanpa pola musiman atau tahunan yang jelas. Setiap bulan terdapat beberapa spesimen dari spesies lain, yang penting dari aspek konservasi dan biodiversitas, namun tidak dapat diidentifikasi secara pasti dengan metode ADV. Untuk mengidentifikasi spesimen tersebut dibutuhkan metode analisa genetik (DNA).
