Abstract

High total plate count (TPC) and the presence of Salmonella spp. in food products can cause health problems for consumers. De-boned milkfish products are popular with consumers in Palu City, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, but there is a lack of data on their safety. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate TPC levels and detect contamination by Salmonella spp. in these products. Samples of fresh and processed milkfish were collected from two de-boned milkfish processing sites: the Technical Implementation Unit for the Application of Fishery Product Quality Control (TIU-AQFP) and the Melona Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Group in Palu City. Microbiological assays included counting the number of bacterial colonies (TPC) as well as the isolation and identification of Salmonella spp. through biochemical tests. The study applied a completely randomized factorial design with three replicates per site and per product (12 experimental units). De-boning had a significant (P0.05) effect on TPC (1.26103 to 2.20103 CFU/g for de-boned milkfish compared to 4.28103 to 2.94104 CFU/g for fresh unprocessed milkfish). However, the types of bacteria identified in fresh and de-boned milkfish, including Klebsiella, Enterobacter and Citrobacter, were present at non-pathogenic levels. No Salmonella spp. contamination was found in the test samples. These results indicate that de-boned milkfish products from the TIU-AQFP and Melona MSME Group in Palu City are safe and suitable for human consumption.Keywords:Bone-free milkfishBacterial contaminationPathogen assayFish processingFood safety

Abstract

Kecamatan Mantikulore mempunyai potensi untuk mengembangkan usaha perikanan tangkap, namun masih terkendala oleh beberapa faktor antara lain kualitas sumber daya manusia, modal usaha, dan kurangnya pengetahuan akan informasi teknologi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji potensi dan tantangan serta mengidentifikasi strategi yang sesuai untuk pengembangan usaha perikanan tangkap. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei dan wawancara. Data penelitian yang dikumpulkan adalah data primer meliputi faktor internal (IFAS) dan faktor eksternal (EFAS), sedangkan data sekunder adalah data sarana dan prasarana nelayan serta data produksi perikanan tangkap. Penelitian berlangsung pada bulan September hingga Desember 2023. Analisis data menggunakan SWOT dan AHP untuk menentukan strategi pengembangan usaha perikanan tangkap. Hasil analisis kuadran menunjukkan bahwa usaha perikanan tangkap berada pada strategi stabil dengan nilai -0,25 dan 0,35. Berdasarkan penilaian AHP, terdapat dua alternatif strategi teratas yang sesuai untuk diterapkan dalam rangka pengembangan usaha perikanan di Kecamatan Mantikulore, yaitu peningkatan penggunaan alat bantu penangkapan dan peningkatan kemampuan armada dan alat tangkap. Mantikulore sub-district has the potential to develop both capture fisheries and aquaculture businesses, but is still hampered by several challenges including the lack of qualified human resources, lack of business capital, and insufficient knowledge of technological information. The objective of this research is to assess the potentials and challenges and to identify appropriate strategies for the development of capture fisheries and aquaculture enterprises. The research methods used are survey and interview methods. The primary research data collected include internal factors (IFAS) and external factors EFAS, while secondary data covers facilities and infrastructure available to fishermen and fish farmers as well as production data for  fishing and aquaculture.. The study took place between September and December 2023. Data analysis used SWOT and AHP analysis to determine strategies for developing capture fisheries and aquaculture businesses. The quadrant analysis results show that the capture fisheries business falls under a stable strategy, with values of -0.25 and 0.35, whereas the aquaculture business is situated within a growth strategy, with values of 0.12 and 0.18. According to the AHP's assessment, three top alternative strategies are suitable to be implemented in the context of developing fisheries businesses in Mantikulore District; which include increasing use of fishing tools, improving fleet and fishing equipment capabilities, and exploring  new alternative livelihoods technique

Abstract

Sulawesi is an island famous for its biodiversity, including many endemic species. In particular, Sulawesi has the highest number of gobies in the world, including species with potential as food and/or ornamental fishes. The exploration of freshwater ichthyofauna is important in the context of Indonesian and global biodiversity. This research aimed to identify gobies found in the Luwuk Banggai area of Central Sulawesi, as a contribution to the exploration of Indonesian ichthyofaunal biodiversity. Gobies were sampled from January to March 2019 in the Biak and Koyoan Rivers. The sampled fish were measured and identified based on morphological characteristics. A total of 52 specimens were collected, and identified as belonging to 17 species within two families, the Gobiidae and Eleotridae. Gobies from the Koyoan River comprised 32 specimens from 8 species, while 20 specimens belonging to species were found in the Biak River. Only two species were found in both rivers: Stiphodon semoni and Sicyopterus lagocephalus. These results augment the body of knowledge regarding the presence and distribution of gobies in Indonesia

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of varying stocking densities and plant species interactions within an aquaponic framework. Conducted over a 45-day period (August-October 2023) at the Experimental Farm of Tadulako University, Palu, Central Sulawesi, the research utilized juvenile Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus var. Sangkuriang) as the focal organism. Employing a factorial design, with stocking densities 12, 20, and 28 fish per 40 liters of water and three distinct plant species (Ipomoea aquatica, Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis, and Lactuca sativa), the study aimed to elucidate optimal growth conditions. Key findings revealed that the stocking density of 12 fish per 40 liters of water, coupled with pakchoi plants, yielded the most significant growth enhancements. Specifically, this configuration demonstrated a specific growth rate of 6.66±0.7% and absolute weight growth of 14.06±1.0, along with a specific length growth rate of 2.10±0.6% and absolute length growth of 4.48±0.6%. Notably, water quality parameters remained within acceptable limits across all treatments, ensuring an environment conducive to catfish growth. In conclusion, this research underscores the critical role of stocking density and plant selection in optimizing aquaponic systems. The findings offer valuable insights into enhancing both fish and plant growth dynamics within integrated aquaponic frameworks. Keywords: Catfish farming, aquaponics, growth rate, survival rate.

Abstract

Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) adalah salah satu ikan hias endemik perairan Sulawesi Tengah. Dalam proses pemijahannya, induk jantan akan mengerami telur hingga memasuki fase juvenil. Kondisi tersebut (lamanya masa pengeraman) tentunya akan menghambat peningkatan populasi ikan P. kauderni dengan target jumlah dalam waktu tertentu terlebih jumlah induk jantan yang terbatas. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis hormon 17α-methyltestosteron (17α-MT) terbaik dalam menghasilkan rasio kelamin jantan ikan P. kauderni yang tinggi. Penelitian didesain menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan mengujikan empat perlakuan dosis 17α-MT meliputi 0 mg/L; 2 mg/L; 4 mg/L dan 6 mg/L air yang diterapkan melalui metode perendaman selama 4 jam. Setiap perlakuan dilakukan 4 kali ulangan. Hasil perlakuan perendaman larva dengan hormon 17α-MT pada dosis berbeda tidak berpengaruh terhadap laju pertumbuhan harian ikan P. kauderni (P>0,05). Pertambahan biomasa dan kelangsungan hidup lebih rendah pada perlakuan dosis 6 mg/L air. Rasio kelamin jantan ikan P. kauderni tertinggi terjadi pada perlakuan dosis 2 mg/L air yakni sebesar 91,67%.

Abstract

Kawasan mangrove merupakan Kawasan pesisir yang rentan terhadap dampak keberadaan sampah. Hal ini disebabkan selain kawasan tempat bertemunya air dari sungai yang membawa sampah dari darat dan air laut yang mendistribusi sampah dari laut akibat gelombang. Disamping itu Kawasan ini sering dimanfaatkan sebagai tempat wisata. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesadaran dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan pesisir melalui pendekatan edukatif dan partisipatif di kawasan mangrove Kelurahan Kabonga Besar, Kabupaten Donggala. Kawasan ini memiliki potensi besar sebagai destinasi wisata berbasis lingkungan. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada bulan September 2024 dengan metode observasi, deskriptif, dan partisipatif melalui pendekatan penyuluhan yang bersifat persuasif edukatif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan, munculnya inisiatif pembentukan kelompok pengelola sampah tingkat desa, serta komitmen pemerintah setempat dalam mendukung keberlanjutan program. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah awal dalam mewujudkan pengelolaan sampah yang berkelanjutan dan berbasis masyarakat di kawasan wisata mangrove.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji struktur populasi dan distribusi spasial Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) di Teluk Lalong, Luwuk, Sulawesi Tengah. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kepadatan populasi, distribusi horizontal dan vertikal, komposisi ukuran (rekrut, juvenil, dewasa), serta keterkaitan dengan jenis mikrohabitat. Pengambilan data dilakukan menggunakan metode Underwater Visual Census (UVC) dengan transek sabuk (belt transect) pada beberapa stasiun pengamatan yang mewakili perbedaan kedalaman dan kondisi substrat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa populasi P. kauderni di Teluk Lalong didominasi oleh individu rekrut (543 ekor), diikuti oleh juvenil (509 ekor) dan dewasa (323 ekor). Kepadatan tertinggi ditemukan pada stasiun dengan kompleksitas substrat tinggi yang didominasi bulu babi (Diadema spp.) dan karang mati, sedangkan kepadatan terendah ditemukan di area muara sungai dengan substrat pasir berlumpur. Pola distribusi ini mengindikasikan bahwa P. kauderni memiliki preferensi kuat terhadap habitat dengan struktur pelindung alami. Hasil ini sejalan dengan studi sebelumnya di Luwuk dan Gilimanuk yang menegaskan pentingnya mikrohabitat pelindung dalam mendukung kelimpahan dan kelangsungan hidup spesies endemik ini. Dengan demikian, ketersediaan mikrohabitat yang sesuai merupakan faktor ekologis utama yang menentukan keberadaan P. kauderni di habitat introduksi Teluk Lalong. Temuan ini memberikan dasar penting bagi strategi konservasi dan pengelolaan spesies yang saat ini tergolong terancam punah dalam Daftar Merah IUCN.
