Abstract

This study examines the perspective of 42 student’s of grade 12 and their teacher’s attitudes on ICT for grammar learning at SMA 20 Batam. Data was gathered through Likert- scale questionnaires and interviews. Initial observations reveal grammar skill deficiencies among students. Preliminary findings suggest students hold positive views on leveraging ICT tools like interactive platforms to strengthen problematic grammar areas. The researchers want to see if using things like mobile apps, game-based platforms like Quizizz, and other interactive platforms have a positive impact on developing stronger grammar proficiency. Pre- and post-assessments were conducted to evaluate the impact of implementing interactive platforms like Slido and Quizizz on improving grammar proficiency. Based on the pre- and post-questionnaires and interviews conducted, our study aims to address the following research questions:xDoes ICT can help to improving the student’s grammar proficiency? What are the student’s perception towards the use of ICT in learning grammar?. Moreover, the integration of platforms like Slido and Quizizz was found to contribute positively to grammar competence, understanding of the material, and overall class engagement. These findings support the potential of ICT in addressing grammar deficiencies and fostering a more dynamic and effective English language learning environment for high school students. Further research and consideration of widespread implementation may be warranted based on these encouraging results.

Abstract

This research investigates the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into 21st-century English language learning, with a focus on understanding student perceptions and expectations. Conducted in collaboration with a public high school in Batam City, the study aims to explore teachers' perspectives on ICT in English Language Teaching (ELT), identify student needs for technology-based instructional materials, and propose strategies to enhance digital literacy for English learners. Through classroom observations and student surveys, the study reveals a generally positive attitude towards English learning and ICT integration among students, alongside areas for improvement in enhancing collaborative learning experiences. Despite teachers' readiness to implement e-learning, there's a perceived lack of sufficient ICT support in EFL classes. Interviews with Grade 11 students underscore the efficacy and enjoyment of online resources, with a desire for more innovative technology-based learning methods. Collaboration with University International Batam offers potential for implementing such methods, though logistical challenges remain. The findings reveal the importance of addressing gaps in ICT integration to optimize English language learning experiences for students.

Abstract

The problem addressed by this research is the need for engaging and effective methods to enhance grammar learning among primary students. The research aims of this study were to investigate the feasibility of using Kahoot! as a tool to improve grammar classrooms, especially for young learners, in the only English course that uses books published by the Cambridge University Press. Six elementary students at the A2 level of English participated in one of English course choosen as subject. The data collection methods included pre-tests, post-tests, and semi-structured interviews. Researchers implemented Kahoot! four times during the study. The CAR was carried out in one cycle, as the results from this cycle were deemed sufficient. The instruments used for data collection were pre-tests, post-tests, and semi-structured interviews with the teacher. Data analysis involved comparing pre-test and post-test results to measure improvement and transcribing interview responses to gather qualitative insights. The main results revealed a significant improvement in students' grammar performance. The average score increased from a "poor" category in the pre-test to an average of 93 in the post-test, which falls under the "very good" category.The conclusion drawn from the study is that the use of Kahoot! has a positive impact on young learners' grammar learning and behavior. The implications of this research suggest that future studies should explore modifications of this approach to other different language skills to further enhance student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki keakuratan dan keefektifan penggunaan kerangka cerita dalam sebuah uji pilot yang akan diimplementasikan pada penelitian-penelitian selanjutnya. Dengan menggunakan Metode Cerita Berbasis Empati (MEBS), enam partisipan berpartisipasi dalam merangkai kerangka cerita positif dan negative melalui Google Forms. Penulis menggunakan metode observasi untuk menilai efektivitas kerangka cerita. Penulis juga menyertakan hasil penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya dan mencari validasi profesional untuk meningkatkan keandalan penelitian. Temuan penelitian ini menyoroti beberapa faktor yang perlu dipertimbangkan ketika mengintegrasikan kerangka cerita ke dalam penelitian MEBS di masa depan. Penelitian in mengungkapkan bahwa integrasi MEBS yang efektif dalam penelitian di masa depan membutuhkan pelaksanaan uji pilot untuk memastikan pengembangan kerangka cerita yang dirancang dengan baik. Selain itu, penyediaan lembar persetujuan penelitian terbukti secara signifikan meningkatkan otonomi partisipan untuk terlibat dalam kerangka cerita. Sementara itu, penggunaan instruksi dan kebebasan untuk menulis kerangka cerita dalam bahasa pertama, bersamaan dengan penjelasan berbasis video berdurasi 5 menit terbukti meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterlibatan partisipan dalam menulis bingkai cerita. Penelitian ini menyarankan untuk mendiversifikasi metode pengumpulan data selain Google Formulir, termasuk email dan media sosial, untuk memastikan temuan hasil penelitian dapat diterapkan di berbagai konteks.AsbtractThis study investigated the accuracy and effectiveness of employing frame stories in a pilot study to be implemented in future studies. Employing the Method of Empathy-based Stories (MEBS), six participants participated in constructing positive and negative frame stories through Google Forms. The writers used the observation method to assess the effectiveness of frame stories. The writers also included the results of previous studies and sought professional validation to enhance the study's reliability. The study's findings highlighted several factors that needed to be taken into account when integrating frame stories into future MEBS research. The study reveals that the effective integration of MEBS in future research requires the conduction of pilot studies to ensure the development of well-designed frame stories. Providing informed consent was found to significantly boost participants' autonomy in engaging with the frame story. Additionally, the use of instruction and freedom to write frame stories in first language, alongside with 5-minute video-based explanations was shown to enhance participants understanding and engagement in writing the frame stories. The study suggests diversifying data collection methods beyond Google Forms, including email and social media, to ensure the findings are applicable across diverse contexts.

Abstract

The implementation of English language instruction in elementary schools under the K-13 curriculum has become widespread, yet there is limited understanding of how teachers interpret and apply the curriculum in their classrooms. This study aims to explore elementary school English teachers' interpretations of the K-13 curriculum and their pedagogical strategies. Adopting a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations and structured interviews with three English teachers at the elementary level. The data were analyzed thematically, revealing key patterns in teaching strategies and challenges. Teachers reported using interactive methods, such as group discussions, student-centered activities, and technology integration, to engage students effectively. However, they faced significant challenges, including inadequate teaching resources, large class sizes, and limited time, all of which hindered the full implementation of the curriculum. These findings underscore the need for targeted professional development programs and improved resource allocation to address these challenges. The study provides actionable insights for policymakers and educators aiming to optimize English language teaching within the K-13 framework, emphasizing the importance of supporting teachers in overcoming obstacles to effective curriculum delivery.

Abstract

The study highlights the importance of English proficiency, using English skills in specific situations, and the difficulties in using language skills in the oil and gas industry working environment. The quantitative method in the form of a survey is used to unearth the study's objectives, which are the language skills needed and difficulty in using English in the working environment. There were 125 participants involved in the survey, and they were chosen purposively based on interviews with HR staff. The study emphasizes that the most essential English skill in the oil and gas industry is listening, followed by speaking, reading, and writing. Listening is primarily needed for meetings, speaking for explaining work progress Selain pilihan permainan yang beragam, Asiahoki77 juga dikenal karena layanannya yang responsif dan profesional. Tim dukungan pelanggan yang tersedia 24/7 siap membantu pengguna dalam mengatasi berbagai masalah teknis maupun non-teknis , reading emails, and writing for composing emails. The most challenging situations for using English are listening in meetings, speaking to provide information or during phone conversations, reading emails, and writing emails. The findings suggest a focused approach to English learning, addressing specific challenges such as enhancing listening and speaking skills and improving tasks like explaining work outcomes and writing emails.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum was introduced to address the need for a more flexible and responsive education system, which is crucial in a diverse country like Indonesia. Educational challenges vary significantly between urban and rural areas and public and private schools. This study investigates the factors that hinder the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum and examines how English teachers apply it in senior high schools located in inland and hinterland areas of the Riau Islands region.. The methodology used a mixed-method approach. The research involved 30 English teachers—23 from island schools and 7 from hinterland schools. Data were gathered through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, with 5 teachers providing in-depth insights during interviews. The results reveal significant gaps in implementation, particularly among hinterland teachers, where 42.9% reported limited adaptability. The finding shows that each teacher faces unique challenges, which include: 1) administrative costs, 2) adjustments to new curricular components, and 3) a lack of government support, all of which hinder successful integration of the curriculum. To successfully implement the Merdeka curriculum, the following are essential: 1) involvement and support from all parties, 2) comprehensive teacher training, and 3) teachers' readiness. This study emphasizes that the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum depends on the active participation of every school, ensuring that there is readiness, support, and adaptation to the new educational framework.

Abstract

Effective teaching in various situations depends significantly on English pre-service teachers' mental readiness, impacted by motivation, self-efficacy, teaching experience, and institutional support. Qualitative and quantitative cases consider was conducted with 60 Englihs pre-service teachers from diverse backgrounds. Thematic analysis revealed that inherent motivation and practical teaching experiences are vital for adaptability and certainty. In spite of a high level of self-assurance, numerous English pre-service teachers still struggle with classroom management and adjusting to new learning settings. Roughly 60% detailed their practical teaching experiences significantly affected their planning. The study adjusts with Bandura's social cognitive theory, highlighting how behavioral, relevant, and individual variables shape availability. To reduce stress and improve self-efficacy, organization back such as support and assets is basic. The study underscores the significance of integrating professional improvement, and hands-on teaching experiences into teacher preparing programs to make strides readiness. These discoveries propose that educational module ought to address English pre-service teachers' needs, influencing both teachers and policymakers. This investigate contributes to improving teaching quality and results by cultivating key aptitudes, certainty, and procedures. It emphasizes the need to refine teacher preparation programs to superior support English pre-service teachers' mental readiness in different educational settings.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to implement a suitable teaching strategy for overcoming the students’ unconfident in writing by using quickwrite strategy and also tried to find how do the students perceive the implementation. This research employs a qualitative method which is action research. Purposive sampling was used in this reserch. The research participants were taken from students in the ninth-grade students, class five at Nongchok Phitthaya Nussorn Mattayom School, with 37 students. The instruments of the study are classroom action research with one group pretest-posttest design by using a paragraph writing test and a survey questionnaire which is the students’ satisfaction survey. The writer analyzed the data using SPSS 26 to see the total score and the range of written words. Participants' survey responses will be examined for common and recurring themes in their responses. The study's findings indicate that the Quickwrite strategy was effective in improving students' writing self-confidence because there was a development score between the pre-test, treatment 1, and post-test, which can be supported by the mean score of the written words by students in each test. The students had a good attitude and were more engaged in studying English writing with the quickwrite strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Knoword, a gamified online tool, in improving students' vocabulary acquisition. Vocabulary mastery plays a crucial role in language learning, yet many students, particularly in public schools, struggle with insufficient vocabulary knowledge due to factors like low engagement and traditional teaching methods. This research addresses these challenges by exploring how digital tools can enhance learning outcomes. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the methodology, conducted in a public high school in Batam with 42 students in the 10th grade. The research process consisted of a learning cycle involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to measure students’ vocabulary skills before and after implementing Knoword. Observations during classroom sessions also provided qualitative data on student engagement and motivation. The results showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary acquisition. The average pre-test score was 51.59, categorized as poor, while the post-test score increased to 83.05, classified as good, with a 31.47% improvement. The findings indicate that the use of Knoword enhanced students' motivation, engagement, and vocabulary retention, making it an effective tool for vocabulary learning. The study concludes that incorporating gamified learning platforms can significantly improve vocabulary acquisition and student outcomes, especially in educational environments where traditional methods have shown limited effectiveness.
