Abstract

This study examines the Islamic Shari’a politics and Teungku Dayah’s political authority crisis inAceh. The main question being answered is how Islamic shari’a is adopted and practiced by thegovernment of Aceh and why Teungku Dayah as traditional Islamic leaders in Aceh did not becomethe dominant actor and even their political authority those who have been in crisis since the latter partof the New Order era not yet recovered in the political structure that has turned into all-Islam in thepost Order Baru.The result of this study indicate that the presence of Islamic shari’a in Aceh in thePost New Order cannot be utilized by Teungku Dayah to recover their political authority that hasbeen in crisis since the latter part of the New Order era. Because as a political formula that is intendedto reduce conflict, Islamic shari’a in Aceh since the first fully controlled by the state, bureaucraticallymanaged and modified for the benefit of the ruling power elite. As a result, the political authority ofthe Teungku Dayah in Aceh on post-New Order era did not recover from but remained as in theprevious era. However, Teungku Dayah’s political authority crisis in Aceh was not followed by a crisisof authority in the realm of religion. This fact emphasizez that Teungku Dayah’s political andreligious authority in Aceh which is previously integrated have now been separated.

Abstract

This article examines the success of religious social capital and the agency of teungku dayah (Islamic scholars who belong to traditional religious school) in the collective drug eradication movement in Ujong Pacu, Lhokseumawe-Aceh, Indonesia. The role of religious social capital in combating the drugs market in global drug policy has been less studied. This study provides a quite different view from most scholars who work for combating drug dealers by engaging participation of religious communities in rural society. The agency of teungku dayah succeeded in mobilizing the villagers due to the social capital that bonded the community based on religious ties. The article used live-in method, observation, in-depth and interviews to build a sociological imagination about  the patterns of social practice of the people who  become  the subject  of the research. The researchers lived in one of the villager’s houses, participated in their discussions, listened to the gossip, worshipped with them and were involved in certain jobs carried out by the community members who targeted informants. Using religious social capital, this article argues that teungku dayah effectively  used  the social and  religious capital  of the Ujong Pacu community to conduct drug eradication. Religious social capital has strong ties in unifying elements of the people in the same religion, moreover it becomes an energy that keeps motivating the community to run anti-drugs movement and driving out the drug addicts in Ujong Pacu, Lhokseumawe-Aceh.

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the teungku dayah and panoptic power. It explores two   main questions that firstly what serves as the basic for the Acehnese society obedience towards the teungku dayah? What power model that the tengku dayah apply so the people  total obedience is honestly expressed whether in front and behind them. Theoretically,  this study refers to power relation and hermeneutic theory that are introduced by Michel  Foucault. The data of this study are collected through observation, in-depth interview and  text studies. By closely study some dayahs (traditional Islamic boarding school) in north  Aceh district, this study finds that teungku dayah could be determinant figure in  Acehnese society. It is because not only they are religiously knowledgeable persons that  are justified by religious norms, it is also influenced by three other resources: sacred  (keuramat), blessed (beureukat) and accursed (temeureuka). As the sacred figure,  Acehnese believe that teungku dayah could mediate God’s blessings to them. Against or  defy to them could cause accurses. The belief of being accursed if one is defiant toward  the Tengku, grants the total obedience toward the Tengku. These three concepts are  crafted in people minds, hearts, and emotion so as if they are always being watched by  the teungku any time and any place. Perhaps Cross Circuit Television (CCTV) best  represents this condition in latest surveillance technology. Thus, these sources grant  teungku dayah the panoptical power that is nonviolent, persuasive, absent, remote, total  and comprehensive.Abstrak: Studi ini mengkaji tentang teungku dayah dan kekuasaan panoptik. Pertanyaan  utama yang dikupas adalah apa yang mendasari lahirnya kepatuhan total masyarakat  Aceh terhadap teungku dayah dan model kekuasaan seperti apa yang dimiliki oleh  teungku dayah sehingga kepatuhan masyarakat terhadap mereka tidak hanya berlaku di  depan tetapi juga di belakang. Proses kajian dilakukan dengan menggunakan perspektif  teoritik kekuasaan Michele Faucault dan metode hermenutik. Maka pelbagai data yang  digali melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dan studi dokumen diperlakukan sebagai  teks sosial. Lalu, pelbagai data tersebut ditafsirkan melalui teknik tafsir lingkaran  hermeneutik. Penelitian yang dilakukan di beberapa dayah di Aceh Utara ini menemukan  bahwa kekuasaan teungku dayah terhadap masyarakat Aceh selain didasari oleh  penguasaan ilmu agama dan justifikasi normatifitas agama juga dipengaruhi oleh 3 (tiga)  sumberdaya lainnya yaitu keuramat (karamah), beureukat(barakah) dan temeureuka (kualat).. Maka kekuasaan teungku dayah terhadap masyarakat Aceh bersifat panoptik  yaitu tanpa kekerasan fisik, tanpa paksaan, tanpa kehadiran, jarak jauh, total dan  menyeluruh.

Abstract

Misguided and misleading is the "magic" world that led to the emergence of a mass solidarity to destroy a group that have different religious understanding among people. However, the mass movement against a deviant group was is not actually based on the religious movement to defense of the purity of religious motives. In reality, the mobilization of certain groups motivated and based on protecting of various interests, such as political, economic and cultural image. Based on the study case conducted in Gampoeng  (village) Jambo In the District Plimbang Bireuen, it demonstrate the complex reality and aspcts behind the violence in the name of religion against groups considered deviant. This qualitative study found that mass anarchism action against groups accused Tengku Aiyub deviant in Gampoeng Jambo In Bireuen not motivated by misguided thinking. This reality prompted by suspicion village government elite towards Tengku Aiyub. His critical attitude towards the management of funds threatened the village elite. While, Tengku Aiyub fame as a martial arts teacher led to decreasing the number of pupils among other teachers. Beside, the lack of the ability of government officials to cease and desist early, causing mass anarchism action against Tengku Aiyub and led him and his followers died

Abstract

Teungku Dayah in Aceh is defining community action. The objectivity, their commandment is not only heard with Islamic discourse but also widened in the social and political sphere. Although some social research in Aceh showed the charm of their power had suffered a crisis at the end of the new Order era up to a decade after the new order, but now the vibration of their political influence was again able to move the masses. Based on the study in Bireuen District This article is about to demonstrate that a network of a scientific ideology built, developed and nourished by the constant nurturing by Teungku Dayah has been in apparent political capital for them to A solid and effective mass.  Abstrak: Teungku dayah di Aceh merupakan penentu tindakan masyarakat. Objektifnya, titah mereka tidak hanya didengar terkait dengan wacana keislaman, tetapi juga melebar pada ranah sosial dan politik. Meskipun beberapa riset sosial di Aceh menunjukkan pesona kekuasaan mereka sempat mengalami krisis dipenghujung era Orde Baru sampai dengan satu dekade pasca Orde Baru, namun kini daya getar pengaruh politik mereka kembali mampu menggerakkan massa. Berdasarkan studi di Kabupaten Bireuen artikel ini hendak menunjukkan bahwa jaringan ideologi keilmuan yang dibangun, dikembangkan dan di pelihara melalui pengasuhan terus menerus oleh Teungku Dayah telah dengan nyata menjadi modal politik bagi mereka untuk menggerakkan massa yang solid dan efektif.

Abstract

The various policies of the Indonesian government in the maritime sector have objectively succeeded in increasing the production and export value of the Indonesian fish trade in the world. The 2017 statistics, for example, show Indonesia's exports in the fisheries sector reached 979,910 tons of fish with a value of 4.09 billion US dollars. However, the amount of income in the fisheries sector only succeeded in making prosperous capital owners (toke) and contractors who obtained various infrastructure development projects. Fishermen and coastal communities actually remain in poverty. In 2017, 34% of fishermen and coastal communities were in poverty. The process of strengthening the welfare of fishermen and coastal communities can actually be done through economic empowerment programs by involving mentoring from academics across scientific disciplines. Based on the case of the empowerment of the coastal community of Ujoeng Pacu village, Lhokseumawe, this article shows the complexity of reality as well as the success of the Ujoeng Pacu community empowerment process that previously lived in the war economy and the drug economy turned into a productive economy through the cultivation of soft shell crabs and tiger shrimp with polyculture techniques. AbstrakPelbagai kebijakan pemerintah Indonesia di sektor kelautan secara objektif telah berhasil meningkatkan nilai produksi dan ekspor perdagangan ikan Indonesia di dunia. Statistik 2017, misalnya, menunjukkan ekspor Indonesia di sektor perikanan mencapai 979.910 ton ikan dengan nilai 4,09 miliar dolar AS. Namun, jumlah pendapatan di sektor perikanan yang melimpah itu secara objektif pula hanya berhasil memakmurkan pemilik modal (toke)  dan kontraktor yang memperoleh pelbagai proyek pembangunan infrastruktur disektor maritim. Sementara, nelayan dan petani dikawasan  pesisir tetap miskin. Faktanya, pada 2017 pula, 34% masyarakat nelayan dan petani pesisir berada dalam kemiskinan. Proses penguatan kesejahteraan nelayan dan masyarakat pesisir sebenarnya dapat dilakukan melalui program pemberdayaan ekonomi dengan melibatkan pendampingan dari akademisi lintas disiplin ilmu. Berdasarkan kasus pemberdayaan masyarakat pesisir desa Ujoeng Pacu, Lhokseumawe- Aceh, artikel ini menunjukkan bagaimana melalui proses pemberdayaan yang dilakukan secara intensif,  masyarakat Ujoeng Pacu yang sebelumnya hidup dalam ekonomi perang dan ekonomi narkoba perlahan berubah menjadi produktif melalui teknik budidaya polikultur kepiting cangkang lunak (Soka) dan udang windu

Abstract

Business is basically a social practice. This makes success or failure in running a business not only determined by financial capital, but also determined by things broader than that. This condition also applies to the furniture business in Lhokseumawe City where UD Bripo managed to dominate while Dek Gam failed to compete. This study tries to uncover the facts of the furniture business with the same type of business, but in the furniture business UD Bripo succeeded in developing its business, on the other hand the Dek Gam furniture business failed to develop its business. Data collection is done by using ethnographic methods. The results of this study are that habitus and social capital have a significant role in supporting the success of the UD Bripo furniture business. Habitus owned by UD Bripo furniture business owners are brave, honest, focused, frugal, caring and leader-minded, and always thinks systems. While UD Bripo's successfully utilized social capital consists of norms, trust and network dimensions. The failure of the Dek Gam furniture business is due to the inaccurate application of habitus and social capital in the business arena.  Abstrak Bisnis pada dasarnya adalah sebuah praktik sosial. Hal ini membuat kesuksesan atau kegagalan dalam menjalankan sebuah bisnis tidak hanya ditentukan oleh faktor kekuatan modal finansial, melainkan juga ditentukan oleh hal-hal yang lebih luas daripada itu. Kondisi ini berlaku juga pada bisnis meubel di Kota Lhokseumawe dimana UD Bripo berhasil mendominasi sementara Dek Gam gagal berkompetisi. Studi ini mencoba menggambarkan mengapa usaha meubel dengan jenis usaha yang sama, namun pada usaha meubel UD Bripo berhasil mengembangkan usahanya secara signifikan, sebaliknya usaha meubel Dek Gam gagal mengembangkan usahanya. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunaan metode etnografi. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu habitus dan modal sosial memiliki peran signifikan dalam mendukung kesuksesan bisnis meubel UD Bripo. Habitus yang dimiliki oleh pemilik usaha meubel UD Bripo diantaranya berani, jujur, fokus, hemat, peduli dan berjiwa pemimpin, serta selalu berpikir sistem. Sementara modal sosial UD Bripo yang berhasil didayagunakan terdiri atas dimensi norma, kepercayaan, dan jaringan. Adapun terjadinya kegagalan bisnis meubel Dek Gam disebabkan penerapan habitus dan modal sosial yang kurang tepat di dalam arena bisnis

Abstract

 Consumerism has revealed its form. The existence of the ideology has caused ridicule and even opposition from some groups of society, while some other groups support and make it a way of life. But times seem to influence more and more people to choose the consumerist path. Indications that support this argument can be seen from the phenomenon of society making material ownership a measure of success. This article explores consumerism in Jean Baudrillard's perspective using the literature study method. Several references such as books and journals and both written directly by Baudrillard and the works of other authors on the same theme. Baudrillard's three early works brought this study to the discussion of the concept of sign-values and simulation which had made a major contribution to the development of the sociology of consumption studies.AbstrakKonsumerisme sudah menampakkan wujudnya. Keberadaan paham ini memunculkan cemoohan bahkan penentangan dari sebagian pihak, sementara sebagian pihak yang lain justru mendukung dan menjadikannya sebagai cara hidup. Namun perjalanan waktu tampaknya menggoda semakin banyak orang untuk memilih jalan konsumeris. Indikasinya dapat dibaca dari kepemilikan komoditas tertentu sebagai ukuran kesuksesan hidup. Artikel ini mengupas tentang konsumerisme dalam perpektif Jean Baudrillard dengan menggunakan metode studi pustaka. Sejumlah referensi seperti buku dan jurnal dijadikan rujukan, baik karya yang ditulis langsung oleh Baudrillard maupun karya-karya penulis lain dalam tema yang sama. Tiga karya awal Baudrillard membawa studi ini mengerucut pada konsep nilai-tanda dan dunia simulasi yang telah memberi kontribusi besar dalam pengembangan ranah studi sosiologi konsumsi.

Abstract

Dunia keilmuan sosiologi dalam analisis-analisisnya terjerembab kedalam kebekuan teoritis. Jika tidak terperangkap ke dalam mazhab fenomenologisme maka ia terpasung dalam strukturalisme. Mazhab fenomenologisme di satu sisi menempatkan aktor sebagai dewa yang mampu mewujudkan sendiri semua tindakan-tindakannya. Maka para sosiolog yang tergabung dalam mazhab teoritis ini dalam bahasanya Weber selalu berusaha mencari motif apa dibalik tindakan aktor. Sebaliknya disisi lain penganut paham strukturalisme menempatkan aktor seperti robot yang dikendalikan oleh remote kontrol. Remote kontrol itu adalah struktur atau fakta sosial dalam bahasanya Durkheim. Aktor individu yang terpasung, tidak kreatif dan hanya bertindak berdasarkan apa yang diinginkan oleh struktur atau fakta sosial. Maka para sosiolog yang semazhab dengan strukturalisme ini dalam analisisnya terhadapfenomena sosial selalu berusaha menelusuri struktur dan norma-norma sosial seperti apa yang mempengaruhi aktor. Giddens menilai kedua mazhab ini menggunakan kacamata kuda (hanya mampu melihat satu arah) dalam analisis sosialnya. Akibatnya mereka tidak mampu memahami realitas sosial secara utuh dan komprehensif. Untuk mengatasi problem teoritis dari kedua mazhab teoritik yang dominan dalam ranah sosiologi ini, Giddens kemudian menawarkan teorinya yang dinamakan teori strukturasi. Apa itu teori strukturasi?. Bagaimana kerangka epistemologi teori ini dalam memahami realitas sosial?. Kedua pertanyaan itulah yang akan dijawab dan dikupas dalam tulisan ini. Abstract

This article aims to provide a descriptive description of the series of motivations for the actions of the Gayo community in the Cemparam Lama village, Mesidah sub-district, Bener Meriah Regency in carrying out cayenne pepper farming which is intercropped with existing coffee plants. This study uses qualitative methods, data obtained by observation, interviews and relevant documents. The research informants consisted of several farmers who carried out this agricultural pattern, coffee toke who were involved in purchasing coffee plantation products and palawija toke who were actively involved in buying cayenne pepper. This study found that the community's actions in intercropping agriculture varied widely as motivated by several motivations including the existence of traditional patterns that had been passed down from generation to generation, the existence of motivation based on the sintamental nature or the nature of competition among the community, and motivated by the encouragement of religious values which became the foundation. in doing business and which is most strongly influenced by the desire to increase income which is used to support the existing lifestyle. So that this study finds one knowledge, namely although instrumental rationality is dominant, traditional rationality cannot be completely abandoned, in fact instrumental rationality and traditional rationality are used varally by Gayo farmers.
