Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and information flow has brought changes to the field of education. This situation requires students to have the ability to use technology wisely, safely, and responsibly. This activity aims to improve students' understanding of digital literacy at SMPN 3 Sungai Limau. The activity was carried out by KKN students from Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) 2026 in Nagari Pilubang on July 30, 2026, with participants from grades VII to IX. The activity was conducted using a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The material provided included the use of the internet and social media, the use of the internet for learning, choosing reliable information, personal data security, social media ethics, and managing internet usage time. The results of the activity showed student enthusiasm through ice-breaking activities, answering questions, and Q&A sessions. Based on Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory, this activity became the process. The activity also improved students' understanding of the importance of using technology critically, safely, and responsibly. The number of participants grew from the initial target of around 50 to more than 300 students, which became a challenge for effectively delivering the material, but support from the school helped the activity run smoothly. From Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory perspective, this activity served as a learning process through observation, interaction, and reinforcement in the social environment. Digital literacy also represents how students adapt to social changes due to technological development. This activity is expected to encourage students to check the accuracy of information, choose useful content, and apply ethics in the digital space.

Abstract

The low level of descriptive text writing skills among Grade VII students at SMP Negeri 14 Sijunjung is marked by difficulties in developing ideas, selecting appropriate vocabulary, and constructing well-structured sentences. To address these issues, this study aims to analyze the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ descriptive writing skills. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population consisted of 57 students, with the sample drawn from Class VII B. Data were collected through a performance-based descriptive text writing test and analyzed using a t-test. The results revealed a significant improvement in writing skills following the implementation of the PBL model, as indicated by an increase in the average score from the "fairly sufficient" category to "excellent." The hypothesis test showed a t value of 11.91, exceeding the t table value of 1.70, indicating a significant effect of the PBL model on students’ descriptive writing skills. These findings confirm that the Problem Based Learning model is effective in enhancing students’ abilities in terms of content, structure, and language use in descriptive texts. The implications suggest that teachers should consider integrating the PBL model as an alternative writing instruction strategy that promotes real-world problem-solving and active student engagement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is twofold. First, the forms of expressive speech acts used by Indonesian language teachers in the learning process for class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang. Second, the speaking strategy used by Indonesian language teachers in the process of learning Indonesian for class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. The results of this study are twofold. First, there are five forms of expressive speech acts for teachers in learning Indonesian in class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang, (1) expressive speech acts of apologizing, (2) expressive speech acts of praising, (3) expressive speech acts of blaming, (4) expressive speech acts expressive criticizing, and (5) expressive speech act of thanking. Second, the teacher's speaking strategy in learning Indonesian for class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang there are four, (1) the strategy of speaking frankly without further ado, (2) the strategy of speaking frankly with pleasantries of positive politeness, (3) the strategy of speaking directly clear with negative politeness pleasantries, and (4) vague speaking strategies. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that there were five forms of expressive speech acts by teachers in Indonesian language learning class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang, and there were also four teacher speech strategies in learning Indonesian for class VIII SMP Negeri 41 Padang.
