Abstract

Ranah Pesisir Subdistrict, located in Pesisir Selatan Regency, is a flood-prone area due to its lowland geographical condition and proximity to the coastline and rivers. This study aims to analyze the flood vulnerability levels of secondary schools using a quantitative descriptive approach based on Geographic Information System (GIS). The study also seeks to describe the preparedness level of schools in mitigating flood disasters in Ranah Pesisir Subdistrict. Parameters analyzed include elevation, slope, rainfall, soil type, land use, and river proximity. The results show that the majority of secondary schools analyzed are located in zones categorized as "Vulnerable" to "Highly Vulnerable" to flooding. Schools such as UPT SMP Negeri 3 Ranah Pesisir, MTSN 2 Pesisir Selatan, MAN 2 Pesisir Selatan, and MTS Bahrul 'Ulum Sungai Tunu fall into the "Highly Vulnerable" category due to their low elevation, close proximity to rivers, and inadequate drainage systems. The dominant contributing factors are low elevation, proximity to rivers, and poor drainage infrastructure. Mitigation recommendations include the construction of protective embankments, improvement of drainage systems, disaster preparedness education, and the development of School Flood Contingency Plans. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for policymaking in disaster risk reduction efforts within the education sector, particularly in strengthening school infrastructure standards in flood-prone areas, establishing mandatory school-based disaster contingency plans, enhancing coordination between schools and local disaster management agencies, integrating flood preparedness into the school curriculum, and prioritizing infrastructure investments such as drainage rehabilitation and protective embankment construction for high-risk schools

Abstract

Abstract

Geography learning is often perceived as difficult by students due to its broad scope and the limited variety of teaching methods employed, which can reduce students' concentration during classroom instruction. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Scramble learning method in improving the geography learning outcomes of Grade XI students at SMAN 1 Enam Lingkung. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving two classes of 32 students each. Data were collected through observation, testing, and documentation, and analyzed statistically. The results show that the calculated t value of 2.70 exceeds the critical t value of 1.99 at the 5% significance level (α = 0.05), indicating acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. Additionally, the n-gain scores reveal an improvement of 0.71 (high category) in the experimental class and 0.55 (moderate category) in the control class. These findings demonstrate that the Scramble learning method is effective in enhancing students' geography learning outcomes. The study concludes that innovative teaching methods are essential for improving students' conceptual understanding and academic performance. The implications encourage educators to adopt more interactive and engaging instructional strategies to foster a more effective learning environment.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of a community-based tourism village gives wider authority to the community to manage the potential of their village and has an impact on improving the economy and sustainable development. The purpose of this research was to find a community-based tourism development model in Nagari Koto Sani which has natural and cultural potential as a tourism village. This qualitative approach of research collects data through observation, interviews, focused discussions and documentation studies. The data is then analyzed using qualitative analysis with triangulation, so that the data obtained is valid and saturated. The results of the research show that the development model of community-based tourism village consists of three main stages, i.e., planning, implementation and reflection. Activities at the planning stage include, 1) identification of the potential of the village (Nagari), 2) focused discussions regarding the views and aspirations of the community, 3) preparation of the RIPPDES draft, 4) focused discussions regarding familiarization of the tourism village program. Then, the activities at the implementation stage are 1) community awareness, 2) strengthening local resources, 3) cooperation between stakeholders, and 4) tourism village promotion. Finally, at the reflection stage, the activities carried out are 1) observation and monitoring, 2) follow-up plans.
