Abstract

atigue and drowsiness are major causes of accidents, particularly in activities that require high levels of concentration, such as driving. To address this issue, this research focuses on designing an early warning system capable of effectively detecting signs of drowsiness and fatigue using Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The research method employed is system engineering, which includes needs identification, hardware and software design, implementation, and system testing and evaluation. The proposed solution is an IoT-based automatic monitoring system that integrates a Raspberry Pi camera for drowsiness detection, a smartwatch for monitoring fatigue through heart rate tracking, and an ESP32 microcontroller as the central control unit. The system provides three levels of response based on the user's condition: normal (Telegram notification), slightly drowsy or fatigued (Telegram notification, buzzer beeps twice, and mild audio alert), and severely drowsy or fatigued (Telegram notification, buzzer beeps five times, and main audio alert). The system implementation includes the MP3-TF-16P module, passive speaker, and Telegram bot for alert delivery. Trial results indicate that the system is capable of responding to user conditions in real time and delivering effective warnings, thereby potentially reducing the risk of accidents caused by fatigue and drowsiness.

Abstract

Digital transformation in educational institutions requires contextual negotiation between technological efficiency and institutional cultural values, particularly in religiously grounded settings such as Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This study investigates the integration of digital service adaptation with local wisdom as the foundation of a sustainable business model at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid (PPNJ), specifically examining three implemented platforms—E-Bekal, PSB Online, and Online Santri Visitation (OSV). A single qualitative case study design was employed, involving 12 purposively selected informants comprising pesantren leaders, administrative staff, parents, and students. Data were collected from October 2025 to January 2026 through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed using Miles et al.'s interactive model. Four primary themes emerged: (1) digitalization produces more structured and accurate service workflows; (2) parental access to services and information is substantially enhanced; (3) operational efficiency improves through reduction of manual administrative burden; and (4) pesantren-specific interaction and mentoring patterns are preserved and reinforced rather than displaced. These findings support the development of a "humanistic-digital" service framework in which technological efficiency and pesantren local wisdom—including tabarrukan, the kiai–santri hierarchy, and direct mentoring—function as complementary, mutually reinforcing foundations. This framework offers a theoretically grounded and practically transferable model for sustainable digital integration in value-based educational institutions.
