Abstract

Ultisol soil has a high aluminum content and is often attacked by blast disease, which inhibits the growth and production of upland rice plants. This study aims to obtain varieties and lines of upland rice tolerant to aluminum stress and blast disease planted on Ultisol Lampung. The study used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 8 types of lines and 4 varieties; The experiment was repeated three times. The results showed that line 2 (PL47)-7 was better than the other lines as indicated by productive tillers of 16.8 stems, flowering age of 50% (72.12 days), number of filled grains per panicle of 75.56 grains, the weight of 100 grains of 2.70 g, yield per harvest plot of 172.51 g/ 10 m2, Aluminum stress has a score of 3 with normal growth indicators, but there are white or yellow spots on the tips of old leaves (20–39%), and neck blast has no symptoms with a score of 0.

Abstract

The presence of weeds in paddy rice crops results in a decrease in yields. Appropriate weed control methods are needed as an effort to reduce potential production losses. The first step to find out the right way to control weeds is by identifying the dominance and diversity of existing weeds. This study aims was to determine the dominance and diversity of weeds in organic and conventional paddy fields. This research was conducted in organic and conventional paddy fields of Lampung State Polytechnic, Lampung Province from October to December 2022. Weeds were observed on the 0.5 m2 quadrant method with 10 replications. The data were analyszed to find the Summed Dominance Ratio (SDR) value to determine the dominant weed and the Shannon - Wiener index (H') value to determine weed diversity. The identification results showed there were 11 weed species in organic land and 7 weed species in conventional land. Broadleaf weeds were the most dominant weeds in both land areas, namely Monochoria vaginalis in organic rice fields and Spenochlea zeylanica in conventional rice fields. The results of the weed diversity index analysis showed that in both land areas fall into the category of moderate diversitywith the value of  2.31 in organic rice fields and 1.93 in conventional rice fields.

Abstract

AbstractRice lodging due to incident of extreme weather, i.e., combination of strong winds and high rainfall is eviden in Indonesia. However, yield loss in the area is rarely studied. In order to estimate yield loss on rice, a model for calculating the yield reduction was developed. The objective of present study was to analyze the effect of strong winds and high rainfall incidents on yield loss of rice in the field. The study was conducted at the Sawah Baru IPB, Bogor, Indonesia from February to April, 2016 on rice plots severe from natural incident of strong wind and high rainfall. The results showed that rice lodging from strong wind and high rainfall formed patterns and specific formations. We determined four major lodging formations,  five lodging degrees, and eleven different patterns due to wind direction. Overall, lodging occured on research area of 27.6% with production loss up to 11.89%. This research showed that estimation of yield loss due to incident of extreme weather could be conducted in the level of field based on area of coverage and degree of lodging. Abstract

Artropoda predator dapat dioptimalkan perannya di ekosistem sawah untuk menekan populasi hama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis nilai indeks keanekaragaman artropoda predator pada galur padi rakitan Politeknik Negeri Lampung. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus-Desember 2020. Penelitian dilaksanakan di lahan Seed Teaching Farm Program Studi Teknologi Perbenihan, Politeknik Negeri Lampung dengan galur padi Pandan Wangi (PW), Ciherang (CH), B1, B2, B3, B4, B7, D2, D3, F3, F4, H1, H4, K, dan L2 dengan 2 varietas unggul pembanding yaitu Ciherang (CH) dan Gilirang (Gil). Pengamatan artropoda dilakukan menggunakan metode jaring dilakukan sebanyak 3 ayunan ganda. Pengambilan sampel serangga dilakukan pada pukul 06.00- 09.00 WIB. Identifikasi menggunakan makroskop binokuler di Laboratorium tanaman pangan II. Data hasil identifikasi serangga kemudian dihitung nilai indeks keanekaragaman spesies Shannon (H’), indeks dominasi spesies Berger-Parker (d) dan indeks kemerataan spesies dari Pielou (E). Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa artropoda predator yang ditemukan adalah laba-laba predator seperti Oxyopes javanus, Tetragnatha javana, T. virescens, T. maxilosa, Pardosa pseudoannulata, Athypena sp., dan serangga predator seperti Microvelia douglasi, Agriocnemis pygmaea, A. femina, A. pieris, dan Verania lineata, Menochillus sexmachulatus, Hispella atra, dan Paederus fuscipes. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman pada setiap galur padi fluktuatif dan berkisar dari rendah ke sedang.

Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda is a major pest that attacks food and horticultural crops. The development of botanical pesticides in nanoemulsion form is one strategy to manage this pest. This research aimed to analyse the properties and effectiveness of nanoemulsions formulated using phase inversion and homogenization methods from Leucaena leucocephala and Annona muricata seed extracts against S. frugiperda. The research methods included mass rearing of S. frugiperda, extraction of L. leucocephala and A. muricata seeds, nanoemulsion formulation, and characterization of nanoemulsion properties. The results showed that the phase inversion method produced larger particle sizes compared to the homogenization method. Similarly, the phase inversion method resulted in a wider particle size distribution, while homogenization produced more uniform droplets. The nanoemulsion of the mixed extract of L. leucocephala and A. muricata seeds formulated using the homogenization method provided an antifeedant effect of 56.15% (medium inhibition criteria). The lowest antifeedant activity was observed in nanoemulsion from L. leucocephala using the phase inversion method (36.87%, low inhibition criteria). The highest ovicidal effect (72.93%) was also obtained from the mixed-seed nanoemulsion prepared by homogenization.

Abstract

Kedelai edamame (Glycine max L.) merupakan komoditas bernilai tinggi yang produktivitasnya dipengaruhi oleh pengelolaan lingkungan dan populasi tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis mulsa dan jarak tanam terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil panen kedelai edamame. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Politeknik Negeri Lampung menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial (RAK) dengan dua faktor. Faktor pertama adalah jenis mulsa (tanpa mulsa, mulsa jerami, dan mulsa plastik), sedangkan faktor kedua adalah jarak tanam (30x10 cm, 30x15 cm, 30x20 cm, dan 30x25 cm). Hasil analisis varians menunjukkan bahwa jenis mulsa tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap semua variabel, sedangkan jarak tanam berpengaruh sangat signifikan terhadap jumlah polong, berat polong berisi, dan berat total polong. Interaksi antara kedua faktor tersebut tidak menunjukkan pengaruh yang signifikan. Jarak tanam 30x20 cm (J3) menghasilkan pertumbuhan dan jumlah polong yang paling optimal. Sebaliknya, jarak tanam yang terlalu dekat (30x10 cm) mengurangi produktivitas karena persaingan antar tanaman yang tinggi. Secara agronomis, kombinasi mulsa jerami dan jarak tanam 30x20 cm (M1J3) memberikan hasil terbaik, dengan hasil panen mencapai 20,76 ton/ha. Meskipun mulsa tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan secara statistik, penggunaan mulsa jerami cenderung meningkatkan hasil panen secara numerik dengan menjaga kelembapan tanah dan menekan fluktuasi suhu. Studi ini merekomendasikan penggunaan jarak tanam 30x20 cm sebagai standar optimal untuk meningkatkan hasil panen kedelai edamame.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengevaluasi efektivitas berbagai jenis mulsa terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil edamame (Glycine max L.) dalam sistem budidaya organik. Percobaan dilakukan dari April hingga Juni 2025 menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) dengan empat perlakuan: tanpa mulsa (kontrol), mulsa daun Gynura procumbens, mulsa batang pisang, dan mulsa plastik, masing-masing direplikasi empat kali. Parameter pertumbuhan (tinggi tanaman dan jumlah daun) dan komponen hasil (jumlah polong, polong terisi, berat polong, dan biomassa) diukur dan dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA diikuti dengan LSD pada 5%. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penerapan mulsa secara signifikan meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman dan hasil dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Mulsa Gynura procumbens menunjukkan kinerja terbaik, meningkatkan tinggi tanaman (26,90 cm), jumlah daun (13,60 daun), polong terisi (11,50 polong), dan berat polong (39,00 g tanaman⁻¹), masing-masing meningkat sebesar 45,4%, 29,5%, 103,5%, dan 161,7% dibandingkan kontrol. Mulsa organik lebih unggul dibandingkan mulsa plastik, kemungkinan karena kontribusinya yang tambahan terhadap kesuburan tanah melalui proses dekomposisi. Secara keseluruhan, mulsa organik yang bersumber secara lokal, terutama Gynura procumbens, merupakan strategi yang berkelanjutan dan efektif untuk meningkatkan produktivitas edamame dalam sistem pertanian organik.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of various conservation tillage methods on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) of the Exotic variety. The research was conducted at the experimental field of the State Polytechnic of Lampung from September to December 2023, using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with nine treatment combinations of chemical fertilizer, organic fertilizer, mulch, and tillage, each replicated three times. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, leaf greenness, cob length and diameter, and cob weight. Statistical analysis showed that all treatments had no significant effect on the observed parameters (p > 0.05). However, descriptively, mulch-based treatments and combinations with chemical fertilizers showed positive trends in growth and yield. Treatment P7 (mulch) resulted in the highest plant height and cob weight, while P1 (chemical fertilizer + tillage) tended to produce the largest cob diameter and highest number of leaves. The use of mulch from edamame residue was proven to help retain soil moisture and improve nutrient uptake efficiency. These findings indicate that conservation tillage systems utilizing mulch and crop rotation can be a sustainable cultivation strategy to enhance sweet corn productivity.

Abstract

Heat unit (HU) is widely used to describe crop thermal requirements; however, its application for determining rice harvest age across different planting spacings and genotypes remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of plant spacing and genotype on HU accumulation and to assess the usefulness of HU as a predictor of harvest age and yield-related traits in rice. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a factorial randomized complete block design with three planting spacings (Jarwo 2:1, Tegel 25 cm × 25 cm, and transplanter-based spacing 35 cm × 15 cm) and four rice genotypes (PTP 01, Inpari 24, Jeliteng, and Pandan Wangi). Results showed that HU accumulation during the vegetative phase was uniform across all treatments, reaching approximately 776 °C⸳day, indicating a common thermal threshold for early growth. In contrast, significant differences emerged during the generative phase and at harvest. Plant spacing significantly affected HU accumulation and harvest timing, whereas genotype did not alter total HU requirement but strongly influenced yield expression. The Jarwo 2:1 system required the lowest total HU to reach physiological maturity (~1134 °C⸳day), followed by Tegel 25×25 cm (~1146 °C⸳day) and transplanter spacing (~1159 °C⸳day). Inpari 24 consistently exhibited superior plant height, grain filling, and grain weight per panicle, indicating higher efficiency in converting accumulated HU into yield. Heat unit–based thresholds provide a reliable tool for predicting rice harvest age and optimizing genotype–spacing combinations.

Abstract

The El Niño phenomenon severely threatens rice production systems in tropical regions like Lampung Province. This study formulates a risk-based adaptive policy framework by integrating climate variability analysis, local adaptive capacity, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) outcomes. Using a mixed-methods approach, we analyzed climatological and rice production time-series data alongside participatory qualitative insights. Results show primary risks include drought, water-stress productivity decline, pest pressures, and planting calendar uncertainty. However, Lampung's rice system demonstrates robust adaptive capacity. Empirical data reveals that local adaptations, particularly Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology, achieve ±30% water-saving efficiency. This effectively buffers yield shocks, reducing potential catastrophic losses from >20% to merely ±1%, while maintaining positive long-term production growth. The study proposes an integrated policy model linking climate risk, adaptive capacity, and policy interventions. The findings emphasize the need for multi-level governance, data integration, and scaling grassroots adaptations, positioning Lampung as a national benchmark for climate-resilient agriculture.
