Abstract

Abstract: This community service activity was carried out as part of the Master's Student Community Service (KMM) program over eight weeks, beginning in the second week of April, at a junior secondary school within an Islamic boarding school (pesantren). The primary aim was to improve students' listening skills through the implementation of audio-visual-based listening song media at CEFR A1-A2 level. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and worksheet analysis. Seventeen students participated as subjects. Program success was evaluated by comparing rubric scores (gap-fill completeness, vocabulary comprehension, presentation fluency, and pronunciation accuracy) between the first and final sessions, supported by observation and interview data. Success indicators were defined as an increase in mean rubric scores and increased active student participation across the six sessions. Results showed a 49,5]% improvement in students' listening skills, along with increased motivation, active participation, and confidence in responding using English.

Abstract

This research explores junior high school teachers’ perceptions of using Gimkit as a game-based platform for vocabulary learning. A qualitative research design was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations involving three English teachers at a junior high school in Malang City who had experience implementing Gimkit in their classes. The findings indicate that teachers generally hold positive perceptions of Gimkit, as it helps increase students’ motivation, engagement, and vocabulary retention through interactive and competitive features. Teachers also appreciate the platform’s flexibility, which enables them to tailor learning activities to meet students’ needs. However, several challenges were identified, particularly related to unstable internet connections and limited technological infrastructure in schools. Overall, the research suggests that Gimkit can be an effective tool for supporting vocabulary instruction at the junior high school level. Future research is recommended to examine its impact on students’ learning outcomes and to develop practical guidelines for its effective implementation in classroom contexts.

Abstract

Discussing second language acquisition (SLA) from the perspective of one same-nationality family has been massively conducted. However, the recent study regarding SLA in toddlers in mixed-marriage families, especially with Indonesian mothers, has not been previously observed. Directed to the study demonstrated by Li (2007), this present study aimed to examine the three essential marks of family roles on their children's acquisition, such as the parent's literacy accomplishment, the daily occupation choice and opportunity, and adaptation as well as integration into the local country. Two families with Sudan-Indonesia and America-Indonesia backgrounds participated as research subjects. The narrative inquiry method through interviews (see Duff, 2019) was employed to gain the data. Then, the data were analyzed by using Braun and Clarke
