Abstract

ABSTRACTGunung Ciremai National Park (GCNP) is one of the conservation areas that has been facing forest land coverchanges due to uncontrolled activities of people around the area. They have been  practicing shifting cultivation system for horticulture that can lead to forestdegradation in GCNP area. The aim of this research was to analyzesocio-economic factors that influence expansion in GCNP. Data on sosio-economic were taken in GCNP for one month in August 2010. Collected attributed data including socio-economic conditions, knowledge and attitude of people. The results of image processing were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using the attribute data to determine its impact on land cover changes. Socio-economic factors that influenced expansion of land cultivation into the park areas were rate of income in outside area, knowledge especially on cover function and attitude of people to the existing forest. To anticipate expansion of land cultivation into the forest area, the national park should create alternative beneficial projects in order to improve people income outside national park zone, rehabilitation of zone of national park and supervise the activities to people about national park. Keyword: socio-economic, expansion, national park

Abstract

The remaining habitat of Black Crested Macaques in Sulawesi is limited only in conservation areas, and therefore it is an urgent need to map its habitat suitability model. This work can be achieved by application of Geographic Information System (GIS). Data observation was conducted in Tangkoko Nature Reserve and Batuputih Nature Recreation Park from July to September 2009. The model was then extrapolated to Tangkoko Nature Reserve, Duasudara Nature Reserve, Batuputih Natural Recreation Park, and Batuangus Nature Recreation Park. Modelling of Black Crested Macaque’s habitat was conducted by spatial identification of their encounter points toward habitat and disturbance factors. Habitat suitability model of Black Crested Macaque was Y = (2.399xFcroad) + (2.399xFcriver) + (2.399xFcNDVI) + (2.399xFcelevation) + (1.142 xFcbuilding) + (0.957xFcslope). Cumulative score was divided into threeclasses namely high suitability habitat, medium suitability habitat, and low suitability habitat. Tangkoko Nature Reserve has highest rate of high suitability habitat whereas Duasudara Nature Reserve has lowest rate of high suitability habitat. Tangkoko Nature Reserve forms the best suitable habitat for Black Crested Macaque whereas both Duasudara Nature Reserve and Batuangus Nature Recreation Park are the least suitable habitat for species. Keywords: model, habitat, Black Crested Macaque.

Abstract

The need for space is increasing along with the growth of population. It had become one of the matters which caused exploitation of natural resources and abuse of space uses. Protected area provided life support system, but in fact it had been degraded and experienced function changes.  Pandeglang as one of areas with high natural resources potential had also encountered environmental problems.  Geographic information system (GIS) could provide the latest data and help in to reach decision of space policy to push the protection area management. The research was carried out on September until November 2009 with the purpose to: (1) identify the legal formal protected area based on the Presidential Decree Number 32 year 1990 about protected area management; (2) identify the gap of legal formal and actual protected areas, and the abuse of protected areas spatial pattern, and; (3) formulate strategy and policy direction in supporting the management of legal formal protected areas.  The data was collected through thematic maps, remote sensing and direct observation.  Data analysis was based on the results of overlay analysis and the percentage of deviation (summary) analysis. The result showed that the actual protected areas, based on the distribution of forest function (DFH), in Pandeglang Regency were Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK), Carita Nature Recreation Park (TWA) and protected forest, while the actual protected areas based on spatial area allocation in spatial area arrangement plan (RTRW) in Pandeglang Regency were TNUK and protected forest.  The gap between the legal formal protected area with the actual protected area was 99,957.20 Ha (35.55%). All protected areas were dominated by forest in different coverage.  There were inconsistency of planning steps and spatial pattern abuse of protected areas.  Management of the legal formal protected areas could be supported through the assignment of an institution with authority/mandate and responsibility in the management of legal formal protected areas, particularly toward natural disaster prone areas and local protected areas.  The RTRW document should be reviewed to provide actual data, the use of similar format of data reference, and reach a consistent spatial arrangement.   Keywords: legal formal, actual, protected areas, gap, GIS, Pandeglang.

Abstract

Environmental services are the services provided by the ecosystem functions that have direct and indirect benefits to human well being. The purpose of this study is to analyze environmental services changes in the District and City of Bogor on 1990 and 2014. The focus of the study is analyzing the environmental service of carbon stock, carbon sinks, biodiversity, the aesthetic of landscape, water regulation and climate amelioration. The data collection method began with data preprocessing then followed by a groundcheck at field to take sample point, after that followed by image classification that produce land cover. Land cover that has been classified then given the value of environmental services by changing the format of raster into a polygon. The average value of environmental services in District of Bogor on 1990 is 4,86 and in the city of Bogor is 4,56, while on 2014 the average value of environmental services in District of Bogor is 4,54 and in the City of Bogor is 3,72. Change of environmental services in the City of Bogor greater than in District of Bogor due to the magnitude of changes in land cover types of forest to other land cover especially for settlement. Beside that, it is also caused by differences of development policy between Bogor district and city of Bogor. The focus of development in the district is agricultural production sector and the city are trading and services sectors. Government of City and Distric of Bogor should do some efforts for maintaining and even improving environmental services by allocating space for land which dominated by trees and agroforestry system. Keywords: environmental services, environmental services score, environmental services change

Abstract

Green wattle (Acacia decurrens) is an invasive alien species (IAS) found in the Mount Merbabu National Park (TNGMb). This study aim to obtain spatially studies on habitat suitability models of A. decurrens in TNGMb region. In fact, this species became as a high invasive and dominance in the TNGMb and contributes the negative impact to the ecosystem. In addition, the result of this study should be useful for controling activities of A. decurrens. Predictor variables in this research were (altitude, slope, rainfall, air temperature, distance from river, NDVI, NDMI, distance from hiking trail, and distance from burnt area). The survey was conducted with random sampling of presence or absence of A. decurrens by marking the coordinate point of location using GPS. Data analysis in this research was used binary logistic regression enter method. Binary logistic regression involves the data acquisition of the presence and absence of A. decurrens as the y variable, while the predictor variable map as the variable x. The type of spatial distribution of A. decurrens in the TNGMb was identified as clumped. The Nagelkerke R2 values obtained in the model was 39,2%, while 60,8% was explained by other variables were not used in the model. The results of the logistic regression model showed a high percentage of suitability of 64,29%, a medium suitability of 28,57%, and a low suitability of 7.14% then the Implications for controlling activities of A. decurrens in TNGMb could be prioritized in high suitability habitat. Keywords: Acacia decurrens, green wattle, invasive, spatial suitable habitat

Abstract

Global warming is the increase temperature of the atmosphere, ocean and terrestrial ecosystem that lead to global climate change. The global warming caused by the increase of atmospheric green house gases (GHGs), such as CO2, SOx, NOx and CH4. Deforestation will cause the increase of atmospheric GHGs, meanwhile reforestation will lowering atmospheric GHGs. In urban environment, Urban Open Space instead of enhance the aesthetical aspect of town, it also contribute to atmospheric carbon absorbtion through photosynthesis process and store the carbon in the form of biomass. The objectives of this research are to determine the potential of carbon stocks and analyze the relationship between LAI with potential carbon stocks in trees, Basal area, stand density at Tahura Pancoran Mas, Depok.  Biomass of trees and woody nekromass calculated based on allometric equations, the calculated carbon content of 47% of the biomass. Carbon stocks potential in Tahura Pancoran Mas, Depok was 33,92 Mg/ha or carbon stocks potential with an area of 6 ha was 203,52 Mg C. The result of regression analysis shows that a relationship between LAI with stand density has the strongest relationship than the other. Selected regression model to estimate LAI is the stand density = -10,2 + 227 LAI with R2 is 0.60 and has a value of accuracy is 12,08%. Keywords: carbon stocks, LAI, stand density
