Abstract

Anxiety in mothers is a clinical problem that can cause maternal depression and affect development. However, there is actually no special treatment that can be given to maternity mothers to reduce the anxiety felt. Giving lavender aromatherapy is one way of reducing maternal anxiety before labor. This study aims to analyze the effect of lavender aromatherapy on the level of anxiety in labor. This quantitative research uses a quasi-experimental design and a pretest-posttest control design. The sampling for the research was carried out by using random sampling techniques. The sample was 60 maternity mothers in the active phase with 30 intervention group respondents and 30 control group respondents, with lavender aromatherapy intervention in one of the hospitals in Kediri. The results showed a difference in anxiety levels in the intervention group and the control group after lavender aromatherapy was given to maternity mothers. Lavender aromatherapy has been proven to affect the hypothalamus and reduce the secretion of corticotrophin-stimulating hormone through olfactory pathway stimulation, which can ultimately lower maternal anxiety levels before labor. The use of lavender aromatherapy in labor rooms in various services, both services at PUSKESMAS (Community Health Centre) and hospitals, should be considered to reduce maternal anxiety before delivery.

Abstract

The prevalence of obesity and overweight in 2018 was more than 650 million people. Treatment of obesity includes both non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches, including the use of flaxseed oil. flaxseed oil, containing about 40% oil with ALA as the main component, provides omega-3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation associated with obesity, and its high soluble and insoluble fiber content increases satiety, reduces calorie intake, and improves digestive health. This study aimed to find out how flaxseed oil supplements affect body weight in women. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a control group that included a pre and post-test. Respondents used amounted to 78 people who were divided into 2 groups, namely intervention (39 participants) and control (39 participants) in the working area of Puskesmas Pesantren II and Puskesmas Kota North Region of Kediri City. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The intervention group was given standard care and flaxseed oil supplement 1 x 1000 mg daily for 12 weeks, while the control group only received standard care. With a p-value of 0.460, the Wilcoxon test on the experimental group for body weight revealed statistically insignificant findings. In contrast, a p-value of 0.356, was observed for body weight in the control group. On the post-test difference in body weight, the p-value was 0.024. flaxseed oil supplementation reduces body weight in women. Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety during labor can disrupt maternal homeostasis and prolong the labor process, leading to complications for both mother and baby. Healing touch therapy is a complementary method aimed at reducing anxiety and facilitating labor progression, but its effects on physiological outcomes like endorphin levels and labor duration require further investigation. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of healing touch therapy on endorphin levels and the duration of the active phase of the first stage of labor. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pre-post-test design was used. A total of 40 pregnant women were divided into control (n=20) and intervention (n=20) groups. The intervention group received healing touch therapy three times for 30 minutes. Blood samples were taken before and after the therapy to measure endorphin levels, and labor duration was recorded. Results: Mann-Whitney tests showed no significant change in endorphin levels after healing touch therapy (p=0.379). However, the duration of the active phase of labor was significantly shorter in the intervention group (median: 254.5 minutes) compared to the control group (280 minutes) (p=0.005). Conclusion: While healing touch therapy did not significantly impact endorphin levels, it effectively reduced the duration of the active phase of labor, suggesting its potential to support labor progression. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia is still relatively high in the world. The impacts of this case are abortion, premature birth, premature rupture of membranes, histitis, postpartum hemorrhage, low birth weight (LBW), risk of congenital defects, infection in babies, and even death. The objective of this research was to assess how the use of spirulina platensis extract influences the elevation of hemoglobin levels in expectant mothers. In this case, the method used is Quasi-Experiment through a pretest and posttest control group design with a sample of 60 participants, consisting of 30 participants and a control group of 30 participants. Furthermore, the group subjected to the intervention was provided with a remedy, which involved administering Spirulina platensis extract in the form of one 300 mg capsule once a day for 30 days and standard care, while the control group received standard care only. In addition, the sampling technique used is simple side random. The results of the Paired Sample T-test analysis in the intervention group during the pretest obtained a mean hemoglobin level of 9.63 with a standard deviation of 0.490, while during the post-test, obtained mean score of 10.93 with a standard deviation of 0.907 with a p-value of 0.000. Meanwhile, the analysis of the control group during the pretest obtained mean hemoglobin levels of 9.60 with a standard deviation of 0.498, while during the posttest, the mean score obtained was 9.70 with a standard deviation of 0.535 and p-value of 0.083. The difference between the mean hemoglobin levels during the posttest in the experimental and control groups showed m equal 10.93; SD equal 0.907 vs. m equal 9.70; SD equal 0.535, with a p-value of 0.000. Therefore, it is summed up that there was an increase in hemoglobin levels in pregnant women after the administration of Spirulina platensis extract. As input for the health workers, especially midwives, it is suggested to offer alternative therapeutic approaches for pregnant women suffering from anemia by applying Spirulina platensis.
