Abstract

Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition when there is an increase in triglyceride levels in the blood. Hypertriglyceridemia can cause heart problems. One of the plants that can be used as medicine is the root plant kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (lour.) Merr). This study aims to determine the effect of giving ethanol extract of kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (lour.) Merr) leaves on serum triglyceride levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The parameters used were serum triglyceride levels of male white rats induced by high fat feed, namely quail egg yolk as much as 10 ml/kgBB. This study used 18 male white rats which were divided into 6 groups with 3 rats per group. The normal group was fed only with rats and Na CMC suspension, the negative group was given high-fat feed induction and Na CMC suspension. The positive group was given high-fat feed induction and 0.9 mg/kgBB of atorvastatin suspension. The treatment group was given high-fat feed and a suspension of ethanol extract of kaik-kaik root leaves at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBB as much as 1% of body weight given orally. The method used was colorimetric enzymatic using a Mindray® photometer (BA-88A) at a wavelength of 510 nm. Triglyceride level data on days 0, 15, 22 and 29 were analyzed by one-way ANOVA test and repeated ANOVA. The results showed that the ethanol extract of kaik-kaik root (Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr) leaves at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBB had an effect in reducing serum triglyceride levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) indicated by differences. which was significant (p <0.05) with negative control and showed activity to decrease triglyceride levels which was not significantly different (p> 0.05) with atorvastatin.

Abstract

According to WHO, as many as 13 million children in the world die every year and most of these deaths are in developing countries, where ISPA is one of the main causes of death by killing as many as 4 million children each year. Bronchitis ranks 6th out of 10 causes of death. However, Indonesia still has no reports on exact figures regarding this disease. This study aims to determine the accuracy of the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute bronchitis based on the Gyssens method at RSIA Zainab Pekanbaru City. This type of research was non-experimental with data collection using a purposive sampling technique retrospectively. The results of the study based on a qualitative evaluation of the use of antibiotics in pediatric acute bronchitis patients at RSIA Zainab Pekanbaru City using the Gyssens method showed the quality of rational use of antibiotics found that 64 patients were declared rational ( category 0) and 5 patients were declared irrational. If possible further research regarding the rationality of using antibiotics in pediatric acute bronchitis patients at RSIA Zainab Pekanbaru City can be carried out using the DDD method or with a prospective approach so that monitoring of the patient's condition progress can be carried out from day to day.

Abstract

Antioxidants and free radicals are topics that are increasingly discussed in the field of health and lifestyle. Free radicals, which result from oxidative stress, are known to play a role in the development of many serious diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disorders and premature aging. Antioxidants are able to neutralize free radicals, thus having the potential to prevent or reduce the impact of these diseases. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of pandan wangi leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method and determine the IC50 value as an indicator of effectiveness. Experimental methods were used to analyze antioxidant activity, with DPPH assays performed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the ethanol extract of pandan leaves had an IC50 value of 180.21 µg/mL, which was slightly lower than vitamin C as a positive control with an IC50 value of 136.03 µg/mL. Nevertheless, the antioxidant activity of pandan leaf extract is still in the moderate category, indicating its potential as a source of natural antioxidants. This study also emphasizes the importance of technical factors, such as temperature, incubation duration, and solvent quality, in influencing the test results. This study opens up opportunities for further development in the optimization of extraction and utilization of pandan wangi leaves as a natural ingredient to fight oxidative stress.
