Abstract:  Kemampuan siswa menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam berkomunikasi ditentukan oleh penguasaan kosakata.  Penguasa-an kosakata tidak dapat dipisahkan proses pembelajaran yang di-lakukan dalam kelas.  Pengajaran kosakata memerlukan pertim-bangan yang serius dari guru bahasa Inggris.  Kompetensi guru bahasa Inggris dalam memilih strategi, teknik, dan materi pembe-lajaran berkontribusi pada kesungguhan siswa belajar bahasa Ing-gris. Mengajarkan kosakata akan berhasil guna apabila guru menggunakan teknik yang tepat dan pemilihan materi pembela-jaran.Key word: strategi, komunikasi, konteks

Abstract

Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar siswa antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dalam memahami isi bacaan. Sampel diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling, dan data penelitian diperoleh melalui instrumen tes hasil belajar. Kemudian data-data tersebut diolah dengan menggunakan uji t. Berdasarkan temuan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar siswa kelompok eksperimen yang menggunakan strategi interaktif dalam memahami isi bacaan dengan kelompok kontrol yang menggunakan strategi konfensional. Implikasi hasil temuan penelitian ini adalah bahwa strategi interaktif dapat dipergunakan sebagai salah satu alternatif untuk meminimalisasi masalah pengajaran membaca pemahaman di sekolah.Key words: strategi interaktif, top down, bottom up, skemata

Abstract

Abstract. Keterampilan membaca adalah suatu kemampuan seseorang dalam memperoleh pesan dari apa yang dibacanya dan pesan itu menjadi pengetahuan baru padanya untuk diterapkan pada pengalaman barunya. Untuk mencapai kompetensi tersebut, pembaca perlu menerapkan metode untuk menolongnya. pada penelitian ini penulis menerapkan Imitation Response Feedback Method (IRFM). Metode ini menekankan pada stimulus dan simulasi dari guru dengan meniru. Penerapan metode ini cukup bagus dalam membangun pemahaman siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan. Key words:  metode, kompetensi,imitation response, umpan balik.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to describe how students achieve their reading comprehension performance when they apply the KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned) Strategy. KWL is a strategy that can better comprehend the content of material read by the students. Using this strategy can help the students read effectively and efficiently to build their comprehension. After analyzing the data, the finding shows that the KWL Strategy positively contributes to the students’ achievement in their reading comprehension. It can be seen from the progress of scores in each cycle that the students acquired. Other aspects that the students should have in applying this strategy, such as motivation and vocabulary mastery, play a vital role in classroom activities; besides, the serious attention of the teacher to use the procedures of KWL strategy is necessary. The result of this research is KWL strategy can increase the students' reading comprehension in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) subject by applying some modifications to the procedures. Considering the result from the research, the researcher recommends that the KWL strategy be continuously implemented in activating students’ reading comprehension.ABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana siswa mencapai pemahamannya ketika menerapkan Strategi KWL. KWL merupakan salah satu strategi yang dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik akan sebuah konten materi yang dibaca oleh siswa. Penggunaan strategi dapat membantu siswa membaca secara efektif dan efisien untuk membangun pemahaman. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa Strategi KWL memiliki kontribusi positif terhadap prestasi siswa dalam memahami bacaan SLA, hal ini dapat dilihat dari kemajuan akan nilai dalam pembelajaran yang diperoleh siswa. Aspek lain yang harus dimiliki siswa dalam menerapkan strategi ini, misalnya motivasi dan penguasaan kosakata memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam kegiatan kelas, selain itu perhatian serius dari guru untuk menerapkan prosedur strategi KWL mutlak diperlukan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi KWL dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada pelajaran SLA dengan penerapan beberapa modifikasi pada prosedurnya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, peneliti merekomendasikan strategi KWL untuk diimplementasikan secara berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the improvement of speech skills and the activeness of learners in English language development through debate methods, the implementation of this activity through Class Action Research. The study was conducted in class VII-B SMPN 2 Gunungsitoli Idanoi, which numbered 27 people. This research was conducted in the Even Semester of the Academic Year 2020/2021. Data sources in this class of research include learners, peers, researchers, and documents. The data collection techniques used are observations, tests, and questionnaires. The data analysis carried out in this study is a descriptive analysis technique that includes quantitative data and qualitative data. Quantitative data is obtained from the results of learning learners, while qualitative data is obtained from observation results. The results showed that debate methods in English learning could improve learners' ability to speak. This is seen from the observation that student activity increased from 68.63% in cycle I to 86.75% in cycle II. The final score of learners increased from 70.37 in cycle I to 88.9 in cycle II. This means that the debate method has a positive effect on improving students' speaking skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the lesson study process in fostering novice lecturers to improve the quality of teaching. This research is qualitative descriptive research by conducting direct observation, interviews, and documentation. The cycle in the lesson study approach consists of 3 main stages: Plan, Do and See. From the results of interviews and documentation conducted at the planning stage of the lesson study, there are several obstacles faced by novice lecturers when teaching the Writing 2 course, including lack of confidence in teaching students, lack of experience, and the use of monotonous methods, media, and poor or inappropriate assessment techniques.

Abstract

This research aims to know the strategies of teachers in teaching writing recount text at the 8th grade of UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Barat. This research uses qualitative methods using an inductive approach. The necessary data is collected through observations and interviews. Participants in the research were two English teachers and at the 8th grade of UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Barat of 42 students. Results from data analysis show that English teachers use strategies in teaching writing, the first teacher uses two types of strategies: discussion strategy, and question-and-answer (Q&A) strategy, while the second teacher uses discussion strategy. Meanwhile, the results of research conducted to students through interviews showed that both teachers have used the above strategy. From the results of observations and interviews of both teachers, they used several strategies such as discussion strategy, question-and-answer strategy, with the aim of making students easy to understand the material and active in the learning process. This strategy is used because the discussion strategy is one of the most effective teaching strategies to encourage interaction between teachers and students while the question and answer strategy is an effective way for teachers to examine students' understanding of a subject.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan desain rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 pada materi recount text oleh guru bahasa Inggris di kelas VIII UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Barat. Tujuan penelitian yang kedua adalah untuk mengetahui kendala yang dihadapi oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengimplementasikan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran pada materi recount text berdasarkan kurikulum 2013. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dari hasil observasi dan wawancara yang kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan reduksi data, display data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris merancang rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP) dalam kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris pada materi teks recount di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Barat telah dilaksanakan berdasarkan komponen kurikulum 2013. Kendala guru dalam mengimplementasikan RPP berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 di kelas VIII UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Barat adalah guru tidak memberikan isyarat apa yang harus dilakukan siswa sesuai dengan RPP, tidak menggunakan media secara efektif dan efisien, tidak melibatkan siswa dalam memanfaatkan media, tidak melakukan penilaian di akhir pembelajaran sesuai dengan kompetensi dan indikator yang harus dicapai oleh siswa.

Abstract

In advancing education, an effort is needed in running it. One of them is by utilizing technological advances that have been very developed along with the passage of time so far. In addition to the utilization of technology, improvements are also needed in terms of educational tools used such as innovation in learning, and teacher creativity in teaching in the classroom. Video Learning Media is one of the learning media that is often used. Video can be used as a learning media that contains educational content that can help students learn. Based on observations, researchers found that students sometimes feel less interested in the material being taught and students are also less interested in understanding the contents of textbooks. The formulation of the problem in this study is how much interest do students have in video learning media in class X SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli in 2022/2023? The method used in this research is qualitative analysis. The research data collection used field notes, questionnaires, and documentation. After analyzing the results of the research findings, it is concluded that the application of video learning media to students learning interest at SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli made students interested. Animation, music, sound and clear discussion made students like video learning media, beside that, it was easy for students to better understand the visualized learning. Teachers can also use videos as their learning media, which of course attracts students' interest in the material presented and affect students learning outcomes.
