Abstract

The degradation of culture and people's lives leads to the degradation of rivers and water. An alarming condition regarding the declining quality of the river's ecology, which has occurred in many places. A lot of garbage is found in the river, the width of the river is getting shorter because on the river border many people's houses are built on the river, sand mining activities in the river erode the depth of the river so that it has an impact on the quality of river water, fish farming activities and so on. That phenomenon lead to decreasing quality of rivers. The purpose of writing this research is to analyze community participation in the river border towards the environmental sustainability of the Tapin river in Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan. This study used a mixed research method that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches with data collection techniques through interviews with informants, direct observations in the field and distributing questionnaires to respondents. The results showed that the value of community participation on participation in the Tapin River conservation effort was 70.825%, which means that it was included in the participation level of 62.50% - 81.24% declared "participating". However, if viewed from the results of the interviews contained in the questionnaire, it was stated that only 30% participated while 70% of the community admitted that they had never participated in efforts to maintain and preserve the Tapin River.

Abstract

Mangrove forests in South Kalimantan have been converted into fish ponds, settlements, ports and other uses. The condition of damaged mangrove forests is very alarming. The purpose of this study is to formulate a development and conservation strategy for mangrove forests in Jorong District. This research uses interviews, direct observation in the field to analyze the factors that cause mangrove damage, descriptive analysis through the In depth interview approach with key information about to formulate a strategy for developing and conserving mangrove forests in Jorong District. The results of changes in the distribution and extent of mangroves decreased from 2010 (2.324 ha) to 2020 (1.665 ha). The dynamics of mangrove damage are caused by mining activities and oil palm company expansion. The formulation of the strategy is socialization to the community related to the development of mangrove forests that contribute to high biota, the concept of developing mangrove ecotourism to improve the living standards of the poor, applying the pattern of developing mangrove forests for the common good.

Abstract

Abstract

Post-mining reclamation includes various activities of structuring, restoring, and improving environmental quality. Revegetation contains replanting activities that are part of post-mining reclamation. Several considerations are needed in determining the choice of plant species for revegetation activities. This study aims to determine the order of priority for the selection of revegetation plant species based on criteria and indicators of ecological value. The research location was in the revegetation area of PT. Adaro Site Tanjung, South Kalimantan. A total of 6 measurement plots (40mx25m) were made using purposive sampling method in determining the selected measurement plots. Each measurement plot was divided into 4 measurement sub plots to measure the number of species, number of individuals, diameter and height of revegetation plants. The indicator criteria used as an analytical tool contain 6 criteria and 8 indicators. The eight indicators are the contribution of the species diversity index, growth percent, number of individuals/ha, dominance, species authenticity, canopy cover, natural introduction of new plants, and the rate of weathering of litter. The revegetation plant species assessed were Akasia (Acacia mangium), Johar (Cassia siamea), and Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria). Data were analyzed quantitatively through scoring against the total value of the indicators or categories made. The order of priority for revegetation plants is P.falcataria (score 24 = high score), Johar (score: 23 = high score), and Akacia (score: 19 = low score). Ecological feasibility indicator criteria developed in this study can be used as a model for the selection of species to be developed in post-coal mining revegetation area
