Abstract

Degenerative diseases have been reported as the main causes of mortality number in Indonesia. An unhealthy lifestyle, including lack of exercise combined with low of fiber and antioxidants diet, is believed as the main triggering factor. Functional foods which offer several benefits, including its built-in nutrition, the pharmacological effects, as well as the practical uses, is considered as one of the effective solutions to supply the antioxidant deficiency. Euphorbia hirta is an herbaceous plant that has been reported to have several important pharmacological activities, including in the prevention of some degenerative diseases through its antioxidative capacity. A type of functional food enriched with antioxidant has been formulated from the leaves of E. hirta and black tea (Camellia sinensis); however, the feasibility analysis of its processing industry has not been carried out. This study was aimed to analyze the marketing, technical, management, and financial feasibility of establishment of functional food industry of E. hirta herb combined with black tea. The feasibility was analyzed by considering the marketing aspects, technical aspects (process technology and plant layout), management aspects, and financial aspects as measured by the NPV, Net B/C, IRR, PBP, and BEP values. The financial analysis showed that the NPV was Rp81,520,549.00 with 1.30 of Net B/C, 27.64% of IRR, and 2.6 years of PBP. Based on the results, the planned industry is declared to be feasible especially in the aspects of marketing, technic, management, and financial.

Abstract

South Kalimantan has considerable natural forests and many types of timber that have not yet been optimally utilized, such as Bangkal tree (Nauclea officinalis). The purpose of this research was to analyze chemical components, dimensional fibers characteristic, and suitability of Bangkal wood as a raw material of pulp and paper. The results obtained from this study revealed that the chemical content of Bangkal wood consisted of 3.00% extractive, 30.00% lignin, 16% hemicellulose, and 50.50% cellulose. The anatomy of Bangkal wood were 1.40 mm in fiber length 1.40 mm, 1.20 μm in fiber diameter, 5.00 μm in lumen diameter, and 3.25 μm in cell wall thickness. Derived fiber values comprised Runkel Ratio (0.43), Power Weaving (66.00), Muhsteph Ratio (99.80%), Coefficient of Rigidity (0.20), and Flexibility Ratio (0.71). Based on the chemical components and quality of Bangkal wood fiber, that wood could be used as a raw material of pulp and paper.

Abstract

Abstract - Research on the effect of the use of HCl concentrations in the hydrolysis process of cellulose from medang wood (Neolitsea latifolia) on the characteristics of microcrystalline cellulose has been studied. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of HCl concentration on the characteristics of microcrystalline cellulose. The analysis carried out included yield, pH, color, functional group characterization using FTIR and crystallinity index using XRD. The hydrolysis process was carried out at 105 °C for 15 minutes with variations in HCl concentrations of 1.5 N, 2.5 N and 3.5 N. Based on the results of the research conducted, the results showed that the use of variations in the concentration of HCl in the hydrolysis process affected the yield, color, TCI (Total Crystallinity Index) value of FTIR data and crystallinity index of XRD data. The yield of microcrystalline cellulose produced from each variation of concentration was 64.41, 61.94 and 53.99. The color of microcrystalline cellulose is getting darker as the concentration of HCl is used. Based on FTIR data, the TCl value of microcrystalline cellulose from each variation of concentration was 0.861%, 0.907% and 0.976%. XRD data shows an increase in crystallinity index produced from each variation in concentration on microcrystalline cellulose amounted to 80.52%, 82.17% and 83.49%.

Abstract

Guntung Payung land condition majority is peat that makes low productivity of vegetables, difficult land preparation, and much consume of fertilizer. In the other hand, partner location in this program is an urban area that near international airport, caused the change in land function from the farming area to be residence area. That condition caused the traditional farming area is not enough. The low education level and skills of community inhibit to learn and try new technology for increasing income level. The training of the hydroponic system to the community in this program can solve the problem that happens in this partner community. With knowledge of hydroponic technology, it is expected that the partner’s income will increase and this group of hydroponic farmers can supply the vegetables need in Banjarbaru area.

Abstract

The aim of this community service in Batu Tanam village was to develop stingless beekeeping that was started in 2016 to be the village main program. The program was the socialization of the potential of stingless beekeeping, planting of the several types of flowers in the activity location, and the additional number of bee boxes managed by villagers. From this activity, the community has recognized the potential of stingless beekeeping and Batu Tanam village will make this program be the main program in village innovation activities.

Abstract

Sago plants can be used from leaves, fronds, and stems with the main product of sago starch from the stem. In the production process, the sago plants used are 7-8 years old. The productivity of sago palms in Pemakuan Laut village is around 200 kg starch/stem with a selling price of Rp. 3,500/kg in wet conditions and Rp. 7,500/kg of dry sago flour. Sago processing waste has not been utilized yet by the community even though the waste can still be used for other purposes such as animal feed, hardboard, fuel, plant growth media, and fertilizer. Sago waste is a problem in the Pemaku Laut village environment because the waste has accumulated while the location for disposing of it is limited. Therefore, in this community service activity training was carried out in making animal feed (poultry) using sago dregs. The method used is fermentation. From the activities carried out, it was known that all the participants had started to utilize sago dregs, but the preliminary process had not been carried out, the dregs were directly given to livestock. In this training, sago dregs processing is carried out using the fermentation process. From the training, it can be seen that the community already knows the process of processing the dregs before giving it livestock to increase its nutritional value.

Abstract

Desa Jingah Habang Ilir memiliki potensi besar sebagai desa penghasil bunga-bungaan (melati, kenanga, dan mawar). Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat pada usaha budidaya bunga ini adalah harga jualnya tidak stabil, masa jual bunga yang pendek karena bunga harus dalam kondisi segar ketika dipasarkan, dan kemampuan penguasaan teknologi mereka masih relatif rendah untuk menciptakan produk-produk lain yang bisa diperoleh dari bunga.  Dengan kegiatan Ipteks bagi Masyarakat yang berjudul IbM Penyulingan Minyak Atsiri (Kenanga) di Desa Jingah Habang Ilir, pelaksana kegiatan bertujuan memberikan solusi dari permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat. Bunga kenanga yang pada awalnya dijual dalam kondisi segar dengan harga rata-rata Rp.15.000,00 per 1000,00 tangkai bunga diolah menjadi produk turunannya yaitu minyak atsiri yang berpotensi untuk dibuat sebagai bahan parfum, hand and body lotion, lulur mandi, aroma terapi dan cream message. Pembuatan produk-produk turunan dari bunga kenanga ini dapat meningkatkan nilai jual dan masa simpannya. Selain itu dengan adanya pelatihan penyulingan minyak atsiri (Kenanga) dan aneka produk turunannya pada masyarakat Desa Jingah Habang Ilir mengubah pandangan mereka bahwa bunga merupakan komoditi yang bisa dikembangkan menjadi berbagai produk yang laku di pasaran. Kegiatan pelatihan penyulingan minyak atsiri (kenanga) di Desa Jingah Habang Ilir ini berjalan dengan baik dan lancar. Masyarakat sangat antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan ini. Mereka aktif melakukan pembuatan berbagai produk yang diajarkan dan mempraktikkannya sendiri setelah kegiatan berlangsung.

Abstract

One of the problems of traditional wood industry in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan is wood drying process. Drying process that safe, fast, and effective is looking for to improve the quality of the product. The aim of this program is to train the wood traditional businessman to dry the wood using green house kiln dry. This kiln using sun radiation to dry the wood. Good position and design of kiln and the right process of drying are the key of the successfully of wood drying. The time of drying process and wood defects during drying process can be reduced. Using green house kiln dry, the time of drying can be reduced from 2 moths to be 1 month and the defects do not appear clearly.

Abstract

Jamur pelapuk putih adalah organisme pendegradasi kayu yang dapat mendekomposisi polimer-polimer kayu yaitu lignin, selulosa, dan hemiselulosa. Jamur pelapuk putih lebih menyukai lignin pada kayu daripada selulosa yang diharapkan tetap ada pada aplikasi proses biopulping. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan inokulasi jamur Phanerochaete chrysosporium Burds pada serpih kayu randu sebagai bahan baku pembuatan pulp dan kertas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui tingkat degradasi komponen kimia kayu randu oleh jamur Phanerochaete chrysosporium Burds. Jamur Phanerochaete chrysosporium Burds dibiakkan pada medium agar (PDA) selama 10 hari, kemudian diinokulasikan pada serpih kayu randu selama 20 ,30, dan 40 hari. Selanjutnya serpih diamati sifat kimianya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan jamur terhadap serpih kayu randu selama 20, 30 dan 40 hari menurunkan kadar ekstraktif, kadar lignin, kadar holoselulosa, kadar alfa selulosa, kadar pentosan dan menaikkan kelarutan dalam NaOH 1% dari kontrol. Penurunan kadar lignin tertinggi pada masa inkubasi 40 hari sebesar 12,34%. Kata kunci : Biopulping, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Ceiba pentandra, pulp dan kertas.
